Loagic Circuits and Switching Theory EXPERIMENT 7 XOR GATE

Laboratory Manual

The XOR gate is an exclusive OR gate that produces a high logic output only when one but not all its inputs is high. When the inputs are all high or low, the output is low. This gate offers a very useful function in digtal manipulation and processing. It is used to implement various logical operations from code checking to code conversion.

Loagic Circuits and Switching Theory Procedure:

Laboratory Manual

1. Switch on the power supply. All LEDs of the DATA STATUS monitor should be OFF. 2. Fill up the table below to verify the XOR gates truth table using inputs D1 and D2. Monitor the signals through DATA STATUS monitor IN1, IN2, and IN3.

INPUTS D1 0 0 1 1 D2 0 1 0 1 IN1 IN2

OUTPUT IN3

3. What inputs (D1/D2) are required to produce a logic low level across the output (IN3)? 4. What inputs (D1/D2) are required to produce a logic high level across the output (IN3)? 5. The second set of gates is composed of XOR gates 2 to 4. Note that only the outputs (IN4 to IN6) are monitored using the DATA STATUS LEDs. Fill up the table below to determine the circuit function.

EXPERIMENT 8

BCD TO 7-SEGMENT DECODER

Overview This decoders operation is quite straightforward. Basically, the IC interprets the BCD code across its input pins and outputs a code to light up the required segments in a seven-segment LED display.

The 74LS47 is equipped with a 4-bit BCD input, ripple blanking input (RBI), blanking input/ripple-blanking output (BI/RBO), and a lamp test input. The RBI is used for trailing edge zero-blanking control. The BI/RBO is used to control lamp intensity by varying the frequency and the duty cycle of the input signal or to inhibit the outputs. DECADE COUNTER
Overview The previous experiments illustrate the operation of counters and decoders. This experiment shows one way of interconnecting these ICs to form a one-digit counter. The block diagram of this simple system is shown below.
