Question 1: Many works of art have been designed to commemorate the dead. Choose two works, at least one of which must be from beyond the European tradition, that memorialize a dead person, and discuss how the artist's interpretation of the subject's life creates a fitting memorial for him or her. (30 minutes)

Question 4: Pioneering nineteenth-century art historian John Ruskin said the following about the painter Caravaggio, "...we find others on whose works there are definite signs of evil mind, ill repressed, and then inability to avoid, and at least perpetual seeking for and feeding upon horror and ugliness, and filthiness of sin, as eminently as in ...
