BTS Location
Btss are located in several different locations inside the building Bts/Antenna locations are picked according to specified service criteria to be met (coverage area and quality), affecting factors are: size of area number of floors number of passive units length and type of feeder runs attenuating materials, walls etc. Possible bts locations are i.e. service rooms, in building warehouse rooms, service corridors, cleaning rooms, maintenance rooms, power distribution rooms, parking halls, etc. Before deciding on bts locations consider is the bts in the most economical location ( power & distance to antennas, minimal amount of passive units etc.) is the feeder lines as short as possible (minimal amount of CW, feeder cost, attenuation) is the antenna in the most economical locations ( minimal amount of CW, passive units ) where is the power source for the bts where and how is the AC power cables run to the bbu where and how is the TRS cable run to the TRS equipment (MW on the roof) can antennas be located more economically and still meet the requirements

Case 1
Thick outer wall with high attenuation and thin inner wall with little attenuation e.g. basement carpark Little leakage to outdoor Low interference from outdoor Less antenna, higher output power Easy to plan for frequency reuse between buildings

Case 2
Big glass windows with almost no attenuation to the surrounding e.g. open office environment Lots of leakage to and from the surrounding More antenna, lower output power Distance to co-channel cell has to be large or shadowing building in between or use dedicated frequencies
30
NOKIA

Case 3
Lots of inner supporting walls causing attenuation e.g. hotel rooms Need more antenna to keep leakage down while maintaining coverage

Acceptance procedure
1. Call setup success rate inside a building Success rate should be 98% or better The length of every call should be 30 sec. Select adequate amount of different places inside a building for test calls to be sure of the functionality Does indoor cell serve all the test calls (handovers are not allowed to outdoors, except entrance) 2. Signal strength in call mode Better than -85 dBm in 95% or more of measured results Walk test inside a building by using test mobile or measurement equipment (NIB etc.) There should be no dropped calls during the test

Acceptance procedure
3. Is MS camped to indoor cell all the time inside a building in idle- and call mode walk test inside a building in idle mode C1 & C2-parameter settings handover parameter settings in call mode check signal spillage from indoor to outdoor 4. Handovers indoor / indoor (if needed) outdoor / indoor /outdoor -> this handover should occur only in building entrance outdoor / indoor -> one way, special case with careful optimization 5. Rxquality equal or better than class 4
