Whenever I come across four purshartha of human life I never understood their sequence.

No matter which principal is stated in Hinduism ; it is stated in such a way that one has to move from subtle to gross or vise versa. For example in Sattva, Rajas and tamas; sattva is the subtlest principal and tamas is the grossest. Similarly in the sequence of pancha tattva ether or aakasha is kept at the highest state and the last state is of earth and is considered as the grossest. Same is true for the seven lokas where Satya loka is kept at the highest order. I will take one more example where this principal of keeping the subtlest principal at the top and grossest at the bottom is maintained. In varna system Brahmin is kept at the top and sudra is kept at bottom. I all these example principal of subtle and gross is kept intact. I can produce more examples if one wants to but the real aim of discussing this to speculate why and for what reason this principal is broken in four purashartha. The sequence is like this:Dharma Aartha Kama Mokesha It can be seen that dharma is the subtlest principal and is kept at the top and thus mokesha must be the grossest. However that is not the case, under hindu laws Mokesha is also considered as a subtle principal. How can such a discrepancy be exist in our Vedic literature. I try to find any Vedic reference to this but find out nothing. Until recently I find out in wiki that initially goals of human life are just three i.e Dharma, artha, kama and the fourth option is added recently. Extract from wiki: Early texts treating the goals of human life commonly refer to kma, artha and dharma as the "trivarga" or "three categories" of possible human pursuits. This is generally interpreted as indicating that the notion of moka as one of the pururthas is a product of a later age. It is clear that some one has distorted our scriptures and had tried to incorporate his fictitious idea into it to destroy its integrity. It initiates an urge to change some basic constructs of jyotish which has been wrongly incorporated into it. 1,5,9 is said to be dharma rashi 2,6,10 are said to be artha rashi 3,7,11 are said to be kama rashi and 4,8,12 are said to be mokesha rashi. This is wrong. The correct version is stated below:-

1,5,9 is said to be Kshatriya rashi 2,6,10 are said to be vashya rashi 3,7,11 are said to be sudra rashi and 4,8,12 are said to be brahmin rashi. Also under this schema, 9,12,3,6 dharma 10,1,4,7 artha 11,2,5,8 kama Therefore it implies that: Aries is Kshatriya interested in artha Taurus is Vashya interested in kama Gemini is Sudra interested in dharma Cancer is Brahmin interested in artha Leo is Kshatriya interested in kama Virgo is Vashya interested in dharma Libra is Sudra interested in artha Scorpio is Brahmin interested in kama Sagittarius is Kshatriya interested in dharma Capricorn is Vashya interested in artha Aquarius is Sudra interested in Kama Pisces is Brahmin interested in dharma It also seems more logical to say that Aries, Leo and Sagittarius are warrior rather then saying they represents dharmic rashi. It is also more evident to say that 9,12,3,6 are dharmick houses which have lot of sattva guna in them and 11,2,5,8 are house of kama with lot of tamasic guna in them. Only now one can clearly understand the real significance of Panapharas and Apoklimas house which otherwise has remain obscure for many astrologers. Thanks, Arun.
