Potential Safety/Health Hazards 1) General Health and Safety

Recommended Controls a. All equipment shall be inspected prior to use with safety inspection checklist. Fire extinguishers must be inspected and in place. A copy of the 385 manual will be available on the job site. b. Keep work areas and pathways free of debris, obstructions and waste. Keep the worksite and restroom facilities clean and free of clutter and trash. c. Know your first aid, MSDS, fire extinguisher and exit locations in case of an emergency if you don't know please talk to the designated onsite safety manager or your superintendent. a. All personnel to wear proper footwear, Hardhats, Safety glasses, and other protective wear as needed. No cutoffs or sleeveless shirts allowed. Weekly Tool Box Meetings Shall be attended. b. When using power equipment and hand tools, inspect and maintain as required by EM 385 13.A.02(a)(b)(c) All personnel shall be trained in accordance with Section 13 (EM 385-1-1). c. All electrical cords for 120-voltm single Phase 15 and 20 ampere shall have ground plugs with GFCI receptacle. a. All tools and accessories shall be in good working order and have guards intact. Electrical cords that are nicked, cut, taped or have exposed conductors shall be removed from the job site. EM 385-1-1.A.03 (d) b. While operating chopsaw and other related cutting equipment, safety glasses, full face shields, arm protection, and hearing protection must be worn. a. Ensure body is ready for lift by stretching and warming up for lift work. b. Use help on lifting in the form of extra personnel or equipment when appropriate. c. Use appropriate positioning and posture prior to manual lifting i.e., 1) center yourself close to the object being lifted, 2) Bend knees squatting down - keeping back straight, 3) Ensure firm grip, 4) stand straight up with back straight. a. When welding or using a chop saw you must have a burn permit for using anything that creates any sparks. b. All tools and accessories shall be in good working order. Electrical cords that are nicked, cut, or taped will be removed from the job site. EM 385-1-1.A.03 (d) c. All personnel shall be trained to use equipment intended for cutting pipe in accordance with Section 13 (EM 385-1-1). d. Wear face shield, safety glasses, and gloves while cutting pipe. a. Suitable fire extinguishing equipment of sufficient capacity shall be provided in the immediate vicinity of welding or cutting operations and maintained in a state of constant readiness for immediate use. Hot work permits shall be required on Government installations when welding, cutting, or heating operations are performed unless otherwise indicated by the GDA. b. All welding equipment shall be inspected before each use to ensure that all required safety devices and ancillary equipment are in place and properly functioning. Defective equipment shall be removed from service, replaced or repaired, and reinspected before again being placed in service. c. Welders, cutters, and their supervisor shall be trained in the safe operation of their equipment, safe welding/cutting

Potential Safety/Health Hazards

Recommended Controls practices, and welding/cutting respiratory and fire protection. d. Arc welding and cutting operations shall be shielded by noncombustible or flameproof screens that will protect employees and other persons working in the vicinity from the direct rays of the arc, sparks, molten metal, spatter, and chipped slag. Especially next to Sheridan Road. e. Welders and other persons who are exposed to radiation shall be protected so that the skin is covered to prevent burns and other damage by ultraviolet rays. Welding helmets and hand shields shall be free of leaks, cracks, openings, and highly reflective surfaces. a. All personnel shall be trained to use equipment intended for cleaning welds in accordance with Section 13 (EM 385-1-1). b. All tools and accessories shall be in good working order. Electrical cords that are nicked, cut, or taped will be removed from the job site. EM 385-1-1.A.03 (d) c. Use appropriate PPE i.e., face shields , safety glasses, gloves ect... when using grinders or chipping slag or debris. d. Ensure guards are intact and on grinders before using. e. Ensure adequate ventilation and cleanup is used when applying primer for touch up.

Inspection Requirements All welding equipment shall be inspected before each use to ensure that all required safety devices and ancillary equipment are in place and properly functioning. Defective equipment shall be removed from service, replaced or repaired, and reinspected before again being placed in service. Inspect equipment daily or before each use.

Training Requirements Copy of any certifications and licenses are to be in kept with Site Management. Hands on training in proper use of welding equipment and miscellaneous tools.
