This is pretty self-explanatory. +++++The Story of Initial D+++++ +++++ID3-STOR+++++ An 18 year old boy, Takumi Fujiwara (Tak), is finished delivering Tofu to the hotel on top of Mt. Akina and is coming down the mountain. He has been making these deliveries for years, even before he had his license. His father, Bunta, was once the fastest driver in Akina and it has rubbed of on Takumi. He doesn't think he's fast, or even think about racing. He only wants to get to bed. A man from a racing team, the RedSuns from Mt. Akagi, is also driving down the mountain as well. He's preparing for a race against the local racing team, the Akina Speed Stars. He glimpses the taillights of Takumi's car, a white and black Toyota Trueno AE86, and decides to pass him. But he can't seem to keep up with him. Eventually, Takumi's 86 leaves him in the dust. Before the race of the Speed Stars vs. the Redsuns, the Speed Stars leader, Iketani (Cole), asks Bunta to race for them. He says he might, but sends Takumi up instead. The Speedstars are worried because Takumi doesn't know anything about cars. However, Takumi says that he already beat the Mazda RX-7 FD3S before. Iketani then realizes that Takumi is the fastest on Akina, not Bunta. Takumi easily wins the race and starts earning a reputation and challenges [and beats] nearly all the racers in the Gunma perfecture. The leader of the RedSuns, Ryosuke Takahashi (Ry) eventually invites Takumi to join his new racing team, Project D. Takumi says that he will join once he finishes high school. He does. I cannot explain any more, as that is all I know. I will expand this once I get my new books, I ordered some and they should be in within the week.

+++++Miscellanious Information+++++ +++++ID3-MISC+++++ This section holds information about Initial D that has nothing to do with the storyline of the game. It includes: glitches, fan fiction, and opinions. If it doesn't belong anywhere else, it goes here! Contributions by: Fransiskus Xavarius -Even though these people are not in the game, but they showed up in the story(4th stage). They are: Honda S2000 driver, Toshiya Joushima. Known as the God Hand of Purple Shadow team. Nissan Skyline GTR 34 driver, Kouzou Hoshino. Known as the God Foot of Purple Shadow team. These drivers appear in Version 4 of this game.

+++++The Theory of Mountain Racing+++++ +++++ID3-THEO+++++ Mountain racing is like no other. It involves sliding your car through seemingly impossible corners at insane speeds. In mountian racing, line is more important than speed. You must learn full car control to race in the mountains. Here are some diagrams: This is a mountainous corner. 1=accelerate 2=engine braking 3=braking ********* * 3 222222 * * 2 * * 1 * * 3 * * 1 * * 3 * * 1 * * 2 * * 1 * * 1 * * 1 * * 1 * * 1 * * As you can see, it requires difficult acceleration and braking techniques to grip a mountain corner. ********* * 3 221111 * * 3 * * 1 * * 3 * * 1 * * 2 * * 1 * * 1 * * 1 * * 1 * * 1 * * 1 * * 1 * * This is what would be required to drift this corner. Much easier. This is why mountain racers decided to drift. It gives more acceleration and a faster exit speed. So now you see the advantages of drifting,we can get into the technicals. For more about that, read Techniques, later on in this guide. Card System +++++ID3-CARD Initial D works on a new system: Cards. They save your progress and allow you, and only you to use your card. Here is how the card works. All of the information here is for my arcade. Yours may be different. +Transfer Card Data+ Some data can be transfered between versions. Here are the steps needed to * *

+++++Characters+++++ +++++ID3-CHAR+++++ These characters play the most importance in the story. +Takumi+

Takumi is the main character in Initial D. He is 18 years old at the start of the manga. He lives with his father, Bunta, while going to school and working at the gas station. One night he beats one of the fastest racers in Gunma...by accident! He was only making the Tofu deliveries for his dad. Takumi becomes one of the best known mountain racers in Gunma and soon people from all over are flocking to Akina to race his famous Hachi-Roku. +Itsuki+ Takumi's best friend. He is proud to be a friend of the fastest racer in Gunma, but seems jealous at times because he drives a peice of crap. But it seems to suit his driving style; they are both slow and sloppy. He remains raceless for the whole series, although he gets a turbo for his car. +Keisuke+ Keisuke is the man who first raced Takumi. He eventually ends up as a team member to Takumi when his brother creates the racing team Project D. He drives an amazingly fast Mazda RX-7 and specializes in uphill battles. +Ryosuke+ Keisuke's older brother. He was the fastest racer in Gunma until he was beaten by Takumi. He would have won, but insisted on lowering has FC's horsepower so that he would be forced to drift every corner. He formed the racing team Project D in order to take over the mountain racing teams in Gunma, Saitama, etc. +Iketani+ Iketani is the leader of the Akina Speed Stars, a low-level team based in Mt. Akina. He is there through the story, usually trying to talk Takumi out of races. He seems to dissappear after Takumi joins Project D, though. His is and will always be there. +Natsuki+ Takumi's girlfriend through the story. She has nothing to do with cars whatsoever and shows very little intrest in Takumi's racing. They break up because she decides to go to Tokyo in about vol. 15-16. +Bunta+ Bunta is Takumi's father. He is the fastest racer ever, boasting unmeasurable wins and one loss. That was in a 3 race series vs. Ken Kogashiwa. He won the series in the end, though. He buys a Subaru Impreza in about vol. 20<. He is a notorius chain smoker, seen with a smoke in his mouth in literally every scene that he is in. In vol. 4 he even lights himself a smoke mid-drift at 130km/h. Bunta is the kind of guy who can literally: Drift a tank underwater, blindfolded, drunk, while lighting a cigarette and talking on his cell phone.

It tends to grip for most of the time. Don't ever think to drift with this one unless you're playing in wet condition. It suffers a heavy understeer. Handles well on Myogi. If possible, race in the wet condition to "activate" its drifting potential. See it yourself and prove that it's the best car in the rain. ============================================================================== Skyline GT-R V-Spec II [BNR34] Driver: Turbo: Installed

Drive System: 4WD Colours: Blue Silver Black White Red Yellow Special Parts: None Review: As written by Fransiskus Xavarius First impression of this car, it's huge. It's size has it own pros and cons. You should be very very careful when playing on small course like happogahara and shomaru and try not to hit the walls a lot. Especially when you're trying to overtake your opponent. It's quite difficult to find the gap. On the other hand, when you are leading the race, your opponent will be frustated to pass you. Even if you don't want to block your opponent, you'll automaticaly block him. It can't be helped. Enough about the size. Since it's a 4WD, it handles very well on rain, going crazy on snow. Yes, it is the best car in the snow. Better than the Celica GT Four. Its start up is not so bad. It can get to the 3th gear fast enough. The rest is up to you. The best courses for this car so far are Akina(snow or wet), Shomaru(wet) and Usui(wet). Avoid Happogahara and Irohazaka. It's annoying I must say. ============================================================================== Skyline 25GT Turbo [ER34] Driver: Junro Turbo: Installed Drive System: FR Colours: Blue Yellow Black Grey Silver Red White Special Parts: Seven Star Leaf sticker (A-Tune) Review: ============================================================================== Silvia K's [S13] Driver: Iketani Turbo: Installed Drive System: FR Colours: Green/Brown White/Yellow Blue Magenta Orange Black Special Parts: Speed Stars sticker (A-Tune) Review: ============================================================================== Silvia Q's [S14] Driver: Kenta Turbo: None Drive System: FR Colours: Red Silver

Not quite a good car, but it's not too bad. It's kind of heavy to drift with. Runs very well on Akagi. Although with the turbo installed, it's still difficult to race in uphill battle. You'll eventually stuck on the 4th gear for most of the time. It's worse when it comes to wet 'cause it slides a lot. Summary, it's a car for intermediate players. ============================================================================== RX-8 Type S [SE3P] Driver: Turbo: None Drive System: FR Colours: Red White Blue Grey Yellow Silver Black Green Special Parts: None Review: The best overall car in this game. But not a car for beginners. It has 6 gears and you'll be busy shifting on some courses. Handles pretty well on both dry[rank 1] and wet[rank 2] condition. As it's an FR, it's rather drifty. Avoid Happogahara or Shomaru if possible. In Irohazaka, use the 4th for most hairpins and JUMP on the jumping spot if possible. Its small body will help your attempt. ============================================================================== Roadster S Special [NA6C] Driver: Toru Turbo: None Drive System: FR Colours: Red Blue White Silver Special Parts: Hard Top, Mud Guard, Bore->1800cc [A-Tune] Review: ============================================================================== Roadster RS [NB8C] Driver: Turbo: None Drive System: FR Colours: Light Blue Blue White Red Silver Black Special Parts: None Review: ============================================================================== +Subaru+ Subarus are really grippy. Their car is the most drifty car in the game. It is below average on most courses, though. ============================================================================== Cappuccino [EA11R] Driver: Sakamoto Turbo: Installed Drive System: FR Colours: Red Silver Black Green Blue Special Parts: None Review: Small, underpowered and light. Those are what people say when they look at this car. Some of them think that this car is a joke. But when they look at the international dry ranking, they'd be surprised that this car is the number 2 on dry. First, it's a lightweight. Of course it's fast on downhill races, especially on dry. Its small body can help you overtake your enemy even on the narrow gap. I did it when I beat Takumi in Akina. I overtake him while he was doing the gutter run. Although it looks so insisting, but it's on of this car capability. Also when you hit the walls when turning, you'll

regain your speed fast enough. We're talking in the downhill races. But this car isn't for beginners. It tends to slide after every corner. So, you'll need to counter steer it harder than any other car. But if you can master it, you can perform the kansen drift a lot. Also, it's very slow at the start. You must be patient until it reach its top speed. The best courses for this car are Myogi, Akagi, Akina and Shomaru. Avoid Akina Snow and Irohazaka if possible. Even though it's small, it's quite difficult to jump in Irohazaka. And if you're using this car, try to do time attack in Myogi dry. Good luck.

Takumi isn't an agressive passer. If you lead him into the fourth section, you will win. try to keep a clean line. Bunta If you have beaten Takumi, Bunta will challenge you on Akina. It is a free match. Bunta is fast and will pass you off the line. Keep on him and pass him as soon as you can. A good spot is the second hairpin. +++++Bunta Challenge+++++ +++++ID3-BUNT+++++ In this mode, you get to race against Bunta fifteen times on each track (with the exception of Akina and Akina Snow). Every time you beat Bunta on a specific track, you add 1 star to your Bunta Level for that track. With every star, Bunta will become faster throughout the course and be more difficult to beat. Beating Bunta once on each track adds one star to your racer level. A maximum of 10 stars can be obtained from Bunta through the Bunta Challenge. In order to get all 10 racer stars, you must beat Bunta 10 times on every course. For stars 1-6, Bunta will be using the stock AE86 Trueno. For stars 7-11, Bunta will drive the AE86 Trueno fitted with AE101 racing engine and carbon fiber hood. For stars 12-15, he will use the Impreza WRX GC8V. For Akina, he will continue to use the AE86 Trueno until the 11th star. The scene will then shift to Akina Snow, and he will use the WRX there to try to take you down. Akina Snow is normally hidden from the Bunta Challenge course selection screen. To be able to race here, you must first beat Bunta 11 times on Akina. For stars 1-5, you will gain 3,000 victory points (with winning margin bonus)

with every win. For stars 6-10, you will gain 6,000 victory points (with winning margin bonus)for every win. For stars 11-15, you will gain a massive 12,000 victory points (with winning margin bonus) with every win. Points will be deducted from your total whenever you lose to Bunta. Bunta Strategy I would appreciate if you would help me with writing Bunta strategy. If you have anything, email me at: wilee.coyote@shaw.ca Myogi: This is an easy way to earn Bunta Stars. He is slow on the early runs, you should have 10 Stars no problem. Just do a clean run and go flat out. Usui: Akagi: Akina: Akina Snow: Happogahara: Irohazaka: Shomaru: Bunta may prove to be a handful here. Rumors say that you can just turn into him and shove him into the wall at the start, then block to the finish. I would trust that that would work. Just don't get behind him for any length of time. Tsuchisaka:

+++++Time Attack+++++ +++++ID3-TIME+++++ In time attack, you can run a course however you want with no competitors. It is the best way to get good at this game. In addition to just a free run, each machine has the top 10 records for the course and the top time for your car model. If you have a card and set a new record, your name goes onto a list that comes up when no one is using the game. Your options for setting up time attack are, in no paricular order: Course Time Weather Direction For Akina Snow and Happogahara, all battles and time attacks are at night. For Akina Snow, there is only on type of weather. And sadly, there are no records for stock cars. Reader Records: I don't claim that I am the best at this game. I am good, but not great. +++++Battle Race+++++ +++++ID3-BATT+++++ Battle Races are races against the person in the machine next to you. You can choose to accept or reject challenges at the start of the game. There are a few times when you can't have challengers for a Battle Race. They are: 1.When you are doing a 'Four Courses' Time trial. 2.Bunta Challenge Mode (needs confirmation) In Battle Race, you can choose to have boost on or off. Boost speeds up the player who is behind and slows down the one who is in front. You can turn it off by holding brake at the loading screen. Both players have to do this or it won't work. By winning lots of battle races, you build up an aura around your car. It shows your battle level. Read more about that later on.

+++++Racer Levels+++++ +++++ID3-RACE+++++ Racer Levels, or Racer Stars, are the way to determine one of two things. They are: 1. Your skill level 2. Your game completion The second is more accurate as some drivers just do time attack, where you can't earn Stars. These are the ways to get a star: Beat a course in Legend of the Streets Mode Beat Legend of the Streets Mode a second time Beat Legend of the Streets Mode a third time *10 Stars* Beaing Bunta Once on each course x10 *10 Stars* Reaching Battle Levels that are multiples of 3 [eg. 3, 6, 9, etc.] *10 Stars*

+++++Batlle Levels+++++ +++++ID3-BATL+++++ Battle Levels determine how good you are against humans. By wining races, you increase your battle level. You get 1 star for every 3 levels you reach. Battle levels also bring in an 'aura' around your car. These are the auras you can get: 0-10: No aura or level down system. 11-20: Blue aura of increasing colour.

+++++Driving Technique+++++ +++++ID3-DRIV+++++ Myogi: As written by Fransiskus Xaverius: As this course labeled "easy", not too many techniques are needed in this course. All you need to have is consistency. No need to step on the brake in this course. Just floor the gas until the end. Let's begin with the counter clockwise part. Start off with full throttle. Some cars could make it to the 5th gear on the 1st corner and some on 4th. Grip the corner carefully and make sure your car doesn't slide at all. On the 2nd corner, take the inside close enough to the gutter but don't touch it. The 3rd one which is known as the "grande hairpin" is a little problem for many time attackers. Many people lose their speed in this curve. Just watch for your line carefully. You can touch the inside guardrail but DON'T touch the outer wall. You'll lose too many speed. The 4th corner doesn't pose too much problem. The rest are "snaky" road. Do your best to keep the line, don't let your car slide too much and don't hit anything. For the 2nd and 3rd lap are the same. Except that you are in higher speed than the 1st lap. Just watch the "grande hairpin" and you'll be able to score at least 2"55"xxx. This apply the same for the clockwise part.

+++++FAQS+++++ +++++ID3-FAQS+++++ Q: wait, I read your guide, which is wonderful I must say, and thanks soooo much!! but I have a question.... So if I do the bunta challenge, and I race him in myogi 1 time and win, do i get any stars??? exactly how do I get stars on this??? or Do I have to race him 10 times to get 1 star??? and do I have to pay for each race??? -nick A: You probably just missed a line. Here I quote: "You get 1 Racer Star for each time you beat him on all the courses." So 1 star for each time you beat him on every course, not just a few. All of them. Q: You need to fix the Ctrl+F codes for the Battle Race section to the Copyright Information section. I will be confirming if you can start a battle

race during the Bunta Challenge. PS. I need a good car for Initial D Arcade Version 3, I got a AE86 and a EK9, but I'm looking for a car that has well grip and a little drift. Something thats like powersliding. The EK9 grips too well with a weak acceleration and the AE86 is average. I'm planning to get the S13, but what car would you recommend? -Danny Ven A: Thanks for pointing that out. For a car, I'd recommend either the RX-8 or the Evo IV. They both grip quite a bit, but they are also very fast.
