ACC's Kudithini Cement Works was inaugurated by Mr.

G Janardhan Reddy the Honble Minister for Tourism and Infrastructure Development Government of Karnataka. Located in Kudithini village which is 25 kilometers from the district headquarters town of Bellary, this new plant becomes the companys sixteenth cement plant in its national network and the fourth in the state of Karnataka. This new generation fully automated cement grinding plant has an annual capacity to produce 1.2 million tons of Cement of superior quality.

The project involved an outlay of about Rs370 crore. Clinker is supplied by ACCs modern cement plants at Wadi in Gulbarga district and dispatched by rail and road. The Kudithini plant has its own railhead and siding with sophisticated unloading and handling facilities. Kudithini is strategically located in central Karnataka allowing easy access by road and rail to all important markets and regions of Karnataka and the neighboring states of Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. In particular the fast developing region of Bellary can now enjoy fresh and prompt supply of cement from this modern plant.

ACC Kudithini will produce Portland Slag Cement (PSC) using slag from Bellary region which is now an important source of iron and steel. ACC PSC is environment-friendly cement that involves reduction in the emission of harmful greenhouse gases and thus has the ability to play a meaningful role in the global effort to mitigate climate change. Cement will be made available in specially designed 50-kg bags that are tamper-proof and seepage-proof. ACC Kudithini can also supply cement in bulk tankers to large construction projects, concrete product makers and to ready mixed concrete and batching plants in the local region.

ACC Limited, manufacturer of cement and concrete, today launched a new plant at Kudithini village in Bellary district in north Karnataka. The new plant, ACC Kudithini Cement Works, is the 16th cement plant in its network and the fourth in Karnataka. The company has invested Rs 370 crore to set up the 1.2 million tone Greenfield cement plant. The clinker is supplied by ACCs Wadi unit in Gulbarga district and dispatched by rail and road. The company has set up its own railhead and siding with unloading and handling facilities.

This fully-automated cement grinding plant enables the company gain access by road and rail to important markets of Karnataka and the neighboring states of Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. ACC Kudithini will produce Portland slag cement (PSC) using slag from the Bellary region which is now an important source of iron and steel. ACC Kudithini can also supply cement in bulk tankers to large construction projects, concrete product makers and to ready-mixed concrete and batching plants in the local region.

The company plans to invest Rs 1,500 crore in 2009-10 and Rs 1,300 crore in 2010-11 on expansion. It is in the process of expanding its Wadi plant in Gulbarga district from the present 5.8 million tonne per annum to 8.8 million tons per annum by March 2010, thus making it the single largest cement kiln in the world, said Sumit Bannered, managing director, ACC Limited. ACC is also increasing its capacity at Chandrapur in Maharashtra and Bargarh in Orissa as part of its expansion plan for the current year. With this expansion, its installed capacity will go up from 22.63 million tonnes per annum to 25 million tones per annum by middle of this year. Recently, the company inaugurated a Greenfield cement grinding plant at Thondebhavi in Chikballapur district of Karnataka at an investment of Rs 350 crore.

. Today, ACC has the largest presence among cement producers in Karnataka, with more than 900 dealers and 2,600 selling points in every district, tehsil and village. Full automated The Kudithini cement plant is designed as a contemporary generation cement grinding plant. Like its counterpart at Thondebhavi, the Kudithini plant is also fully automated and can be operated by the touch of a single button-making it one of a kind in India. The grinding system comprises state of- the-art vertical roller mill technology supplied by Loesche, Germany, with a grinding capacity of 180 tons per hour. The mill is designed with three Master and three support rollers for fine grinding. Fineness of 4000 Blains achieved from the mill will go to make cement of superior quality. Clinker received from ACC Wadi is stored in a large concrete silo that has a capacity of 1 lakh tonnes. Clinker and gypsum are fed to the vertical roller mill under controlled parameters using automated proportioning devices where they are interground to make Ordinary Portland Cement, an intermediate product in this process, which is then conveyed for storage in a concrete silo. Granulated blast furnace slag is ground separately in the same VRM and conveyed to a separate storage silo. Each of these silos has a capacity of 5,000 tonnes. Next, the OPC cement and the ground slag are sent to a blending unit where they are proportioned by high precision Rotascales and blended under closely controlled parameters with rigorous quality checks to produce Portland slag cement. The end product is conveyed to two storage silos from where it is sent for packing through two rotary packers each with 12 spouts. Cement is packed in bags of 50 kg each or supplied in bulk to be transported in bulkers for use by large consumers.

Environment friendly ACC Kudithini will produce Portland Slag Cement, a variety of blended cements, with superior hydraulic binding properties not found in other ordinary cements. Due to its inherent characteristics, this cement allows improved workability while mixing and goes to make betterquality concrete that offers excellent sulphate resistance, is more impermeable, exceedingly corrosion resistant, and capable of withstanding aggressive soil and environment conditions. All these properties contribute to make ACC slag cement more durable and long-lasting concrete as compared to ordinary cements. It is environment friendly cement that involves reduction in the emission of harmful greenhouse gases and thus has the ability to play a meaningful role in the global effort to mitigate climate change. ACC PSC is advantageous for application in nearly all kinds of construction- commercial and residential complexes, foundations, columns, beams, slabs and RCC jobs. It is particularly recommended for structures that call for mass concreting and those where soil and environment conditions play a corrosive role in constructions made with ordinary cements. It is available in specially designed 50-kg bags that are tamper-proof and seepage-proof. ACC Kudithini can also supply cement in bulk tankers to large construction projects, concrete product makers, and to ready mixed concrete and batching plants. The manufacturing process at the Kudithini cement plant does not generate any wastewater, effluent or solid waste. Water used in the process is recycled and reused while wastewater generated from domestic usage in the plant will pass through soak pits to the groundwater table. The company has taken initiatives to provide for rainwater harvesting. All this makes this plant a "zero discharge zero solid waste plant". Some key facts about the plant

Kudithini Cement Works becomes the company's 16th cement plant in India and the 4th in Karnataka. Fully-automated plant with a capacity of 1.2 million tpa. Installed at an investment of Rs 370 crore. Portland Slag Cement will be produced at the plant using slag from Bellary region. Kudithini plant is a "Zero Discharge Zero Solid Waste Plant" as the manufacturing process does not generate any waste water, effluent or solid waste The plant will create sustainable livelihoods for more than 1,200 people through direct

and indirect employment.

The Kudithini project will enhance ACC's capacity in the state from 5.8 million tpa to 8.8 million tpa.
