A team of Brazilian scientists has revealed the existence of a underground "stream" of mammoth proportions. Announced last week at an international congress in Rio geophysics, these results support the hypothesis that the Amazon forest will have two separate drainage systems.
The Amazon basin covers an area of 7,000,000 square kilometres. With twelve river basins within its territory, it has nearly 13% of freshwater on the planet. Canada contributes to 7% of the worlds fresh water.
