In 2006, Democrats recognized the need to provide a permanent facilities and substantive support for the day-to-day operations of the Flagler County Democratic Party. The idea was to present a consistent and viable presence of Democrats year round and year-to-year. With the support of its membership, the Ambassador Club generated the funds to locate a permanent site, support its day-to-day operational coasts, and, consequently, allow access to Flagler County Democrats via a central facility. This central facility has become a response center and has provided Democratic candidates with communication media access as well as a variety of support services. The site also is a hub for leadership training, small group meetings, and strategy sessions. Membership in the Ambassador Club entitles you to special discounts and VIP seating and identifies you as one, committed to the overall success of the party and its candidates, who has provided an extra boost. SENATE DEMOCRATIC LEADER PRO TEM ARTHENIA JOYNER DENOUNCES GOVERNOR SCOTTS APPROVAL OF SUNRAIL TALLAHASSEE Senate Democratic Leader Pro Tem Arthenia Joyner (D-Tampa) on Friday sharply denounced Republican Governor Rick Scotts approval of the $1.2 billion SunRail project, calling it rank partisan politics at taxpayers expense.
Governor
Scott used all the right arguments to green light the wrong rail project, Joyner said. His support had nothing to do with good policy, good logic, or the good of Floridians. But it had everything to do with hypocrisy and allegiance to his Republican brethren. Earlier this year, Senator Joyner was one of two senators to sue the governor in the state Supreme Court after he rejected $2.4 billion in federal stimulus money to build a state-ofthe-art high speed rail system in Florida, part of a nationwide economic recovery package backed by the Obama Administration. The first leg would have linked Tampa to Orlando, creating tens of thousands of desperately needed jobs and alleviating congestion along the heavily traveled I-4 corridor. No state tax dollars would have been required for the project, nor were tax payers liable for future costs. At that time, Scott claimed he would not support trying to push our counties into taking an irresponsible act of taking the risk of a high speed rail project. Which is exactly what the CSX SunRail project Scott approved Friday will do, noted Senator Joyner. This boondoggle commits millions in state taxpayer dollars for a train that will carry primarily freight, few passengers, and bypasses any service to both Orlando International Airport and Disney World two prime destinations for tourists and commuters. He torpedoed a much needed $2.4 billion high speed rail project, supported by President Obama, that would have benefited taxpayers without costing them a dime, and brought in real ridership dollars and real construction jobs, said Sen. Joyner. Yet he justifies a train to nowhere, pushed by Republican Congressman John Mica who has received tens of thousands of campaign dollars from interests vested in the CSX project. He committed taxpayers and local communities to hundreds of millions of state dollars in construction costs, overruns, operating losses and potential liability. For someone who touts his status as an outsider this decision reeks of an inside political deal. Gov. Scott allowed the questionable interests of a Republican Congressman to trump the best interests of Floridas taxpayers.

Re-Elect St. Pete Times (Adam Smith) BarackObamas re-election campaign revs up massive Florida network: A massive army is rumbling to life in Florida, though it sometimes looks deceptively like a ragtag band of recruits. Take a peek at an early planning session for volunteers on President Barack Obama's re-election: about 40 people crammed into a dingy St. Petersburg office Edyth James offering up her homemade pineapple upside-down cake and deviled eggs with dill; a 90-year-old woman recounting voting for FDR; and a Stetson Law student from Iowa saying she just wants to help. Standing before them, an upbeat 25-yearold in flip-flops talks about his parents immigrating from India, the American dream and the vast amount of work ahead of them. "First we're going to reach out to everybody we know who's already a voter. Second, we're going to expand the electorate and make sure we get more people involved in the process," said Saumya Narechania, who recently traded in his White House job to work with volunteers in the Tampa Bay area.
CRITICS WANT TO STOP FLORIDAS MEDICAID HANDOFF, The Herald Tribune, Published July 25th , 2011. Barbara Peters Smith
After Florida lawmakers voted to expand a controversial five-county pilot project statewide in hopes of stemming runaway Medicaid costs, health care providers and advocates knocked the idea at workshops across the state. The Elder Law Section of the Florida Bar especially criticized the intention to start with elderly long-term care patients, who were not even part of the pilot This month, state Rep. Mia Jones, D-Jacksonville, hand-delivered a letter in Washington, D.C., from House Democrats that assailed the proposed overhaul as one that could "imperil many vulnerable Floridians" by "imposing exorbitant premium.
