Memorandum To: Pasquale Cinnella From: Bradley J.

Davis Jarrod Nall Dylan Drake Date: September 29, 2011 Allow me to present you the preliminary designs that we have assembled for Mr. Zaccaros portable wind tunnel. We designed the wind tunnel to be made with off the shelf parts so that we can deliver the trailer to Mr. Zaccaro as quickly as possible. Safety was of paramount importance in the design of Mr. Zaccaros wind tunnel, and you can see the measures taken to ensure the publics safety in the plan-view drawings attached. Roof intake and output vents reduce the need to rope off areas in front of and behind the truck, saving space at crowded events. Screens in the roof, in front of, and behind the test section protect the rider from debris from the intake as well as the public around the truck from debris that the rider loses. A manual shutoff allows the entire fan system to be shut off quickly if there is any problem. The wind tunnel will achieve variable speeds, up to 60 miles per hour. The speed can be adjusted as the rider increases his pedaling speed, or the maximum speed can be delivered so that the rider experiences professional level performance. The whole operation is monitored by a technician and recorded with a High-Definition video camera. These highlights and more will make Mr. Zaccaros wind tunnel very appealing to competition participants. Finally, the cost of the project is approximately $71736.00, the majority of which comes from the truck and trailer cost. With corporate sponsors the cost could be further reduced, as the truck is expected to be successful for many years.

Attached you will find the letter which we have prepared for Mr. Zaccaro, which details and explains our design for this distinguished alumni.

September 29, 2011 Mississippi State University Bagley College of Engineering Aerospace Engineering Department Mississippi State, MS 39762 Mr. Tony Zaccaro Zaccaro Industries 110 Zaccari Pike Schultzheim, MS 12345 Dear Mr. Tony Zaccaro, On behalf of the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Mississippi State University, we are very pleased to hear of your success and are glad that you have contacted us about helping in your project. We are also pleased to inform you that we will be developing a portable wind tunnel to accommodate you on your mission to bring excitement into the cycling community. Within this letter, we have detailed the basic concepts developed in order to make this goal a success. Safety was the key concern when designing the traveling wind tunnel, and we made sure to keep that in mind in every aspect of development. We used two fans placed on top of the trailer to pull air through the test section at a maximum speed 60 mph. We plan to fit the trailer with state of the art equipment to provide users the maximum amount of enjoyment and feedback. Below is a schematic of the trailer.

The required equipment is as follows: 1. Industrial exhaust fan (x2) 2. Honda 5 kW generator 3. Computer an monitor 4. Truck and trailer 5. Trek bicycle 6. Bicycle stand 7. Drag computer 8. Lights 9. Projector 10. Projector screen paint 11. HD video camera 12. Plexiglass 13. Plywood These items total to be around $71736.00 with most of the cost coming from the truck and trailer. We want to again thank you for reaching out to the department for assistance, and we look forward to seeing this project completed. We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Bradley J. Davis Jarrod Nall Dylan Drake
