----------------------------------------Globalization: by media, each of us plays a role in promoting terrorism. I. INTRODUTION Globalization provides great benefits for developing countries and opportunity to develop for other developing countries in the world. However, besides the positive sides, globalization also brings lots of negative effects to human life. One of the downsides is the spread and fast growth of terrorism. Particularly put in the media renovation, terrorism is becoming one of the problems are very difficult to control. The interaction between media and terrorism becomes more and more obvious nowadays. On one hand, terrorists used media as one of the means to achieve their goals. On the other hand, the media also used terrorism to attract viewers and gain huge profits. Being one main object which not only contributes to rapidly develop of media but also actively access various kinds of it, each of us unintentionally is playing a role in this mutual process and a part of the global terrorism. Initially, this paper explores the important of media in people life on a daily basis. Secondly, it will support the main argument of the paper: how public participate in promoting terrorism by examining this globalized process of terrorism by two main analysis: How terrorists use media to carry out their target and how media and public volunteer to help terrorists reach that objective. Lastly, the final outcome of the paper is: as media is very important to our life and people spend much of their time using media, it become a vital tool for terrorism development. And thus, each of us, when participating in media, plays a role in Terrorism.

II.DISCUSSION OF FINDINGS 1. Media in everyday life.

Technological revolution is increasingly making human life improved. The renovation of the media and communication is one of the greatest achievements of mankind. Over the last 50 years, the media has grown up rapidly with the advance in technology, from telegraph, radio, television to the internet. One of the fastest growing forms of worldwide communication is the internet. Millions of people are using internet each day, for different purposes. Nowadays, it is estimated that there are nearly two billions people use the internet all over the world. () Today society, thus, depend much on information and communication for every single daily activities such as work, entertainment, education, etc. People find information on the internet, they entertain by video clip and game from internet and they update latest news all over the world through internet as well. Communications put people closer together and give people the information updated and very valuable. It is the internet that helps to shrink the world and make it much smaller than ever. People now can experience the real time communication and can follow any global events when it is happening. Thank to this advantage, media, with different contents in different sources, is consumed everyday by every people. For this reason, media has a big impact on shaping people beliefs and attitudes. Having the ability to influence public opinion is a special characteristic of media - at the same time thanks to this characteristic, media is also an effective tool for terrorist to carry out their missions. 2. Terrorism using media The U.S. Department of State (2000) has defined terrorism as politically motivated violence perpetrated against noncombatant targets by sub national groups or clandestine agents, usually intended to influence an audience. (Ref). For each terrorism action, their objectives and target in each case may be different. In some cases, one target and method is more important than the other. However, towards media all terrorist groups have the common goal in using this technology advance. The first and foremost purpose of terrorism is gaining attention and spreading fear. Take Al-Qaida story for analysis, after September 11th 2001, an Arab group suddenly became wellknown all over the world; their story was traced by millions of people. The speeches delivered by this group were played hundreds of times on the internet, along with their faces on different prestige newspaper and magazines. Thousands of people know them and people all over the world fear them. As a result, media unintentionally contributed to their success and made them become a new legitimate representative in the world. This story is the illustration to show how the media is so important to any terrorism organization. The Internet can approach a large amount of audience, much easier to access than any old mean of media. For this advantage of internet, terrorist can exaggerate their story much more than they expected. According to Bruce Hoffman in his book, inside terrorism, he agreed: without the medias coverage the acts impact is arguably wasted, remaining narrowly confined to the immediate victim(s) of the attack, rather than reaching the wider target audience at whom the terrorists violence is actually aimed. (Hoffman 2006, 174).

Imagine a world without mass media, terrorism attack could be just a small rebel group carrying a localized attack and only a few people affected. However, with the help of media, the target of a blood attack is not just 30 or 50 people killed and injured in the attack. It is millions of people watching the news everyday and their imagination is doing the rest of the story, which is much more than expected, spreading widely fear and chaos all over the world. Therefore, the real purpose of any terrorist is not in the deaths of three, or thirty - or even of three thousand people. Rather, they allow the imagination of the target population to do their work for them (Ganor 2002). In order to reach their enormous audience, Terrorist needs to maintain their present on the media as long as possible and get the highest attention. To do that, choosing location, time, method and target is highly considerate by any international terrorism organization. Take the attacks on the transit system in London as an example, the attack happen coincident with the time G8 summit was held in Scotland - the neighbor of England. Thus, the front pages of news, articles and internet is filled with the terrorists actions (Ibid. 20-21). -----------------------------------------Together with gaining high attention of people, terrorism also aim at gaining legitimacy, or in other words, gaining recognition - and get their message straight to the audience the second goal that from using media. since the terrorists story that capture millions of people awareness on media, the rationale behind terror action were reviewed over and over, a lot of assumptions and analysis are written to find analyze terrorists motives. People wonder why terrorists want to kill others, what their organization structure is and how they carry it. In order to find out the answer, the first and most convenient mean they use is to surf on the internet, through articles, website, review, analysis. In some way, the action analysis on media can help to convey the message and rationale behind terrorism. However, in other way, without journalist intervention, terrorists can directly convey their image to the rest of the world. Taking the story of Al-Qaeda once again, after the 11/9 attack, the al-Qaeda organization become well-known all over the world. The leader of already - osama binladen, thus become popular among muslim world. His present on the media is also calculated exactly like a president , convey the exact message to people. By regularly sending the video clips that portray him to the internet, together with terrorism message, Binladen and other leader of the world are portray and consider quite comparable. Terrorist thus can decide on what to say, and how to frame their message and directly and successfully reach their audience. Eventually, the knowledge about terrorist is known widely. As a result, without forcing the media, terrorist was recognized as an organized global group with legitimacy of their own cause. Whether people agree or not with that status, the second purpose on legitimacy of terrorist is still highly achieved thank to media again. ----------------------------------------All in all, for each terrorist organization, the methods and even the objectives may be different but still media is a vital part in any terrorist attack. Believe or not, media in which include each of us help to propaganda for terrorism. Therefore, it is true to agree that its the 20th century communication era that changes the face of terrorism. (Schmid and Degrap, 1982)

However, this purpose of terrorism will never be so effective before without the unintentional support from media and the world audience. Overall, it is a two-way relationship in which the public plays the central role.

3. Media using terrorism As being examined above, the media has been used as a strategy of terrorists aiming at spreading their images, gaining attention or spreading fear. Nevertheless, every problem also has two sides, it is important to mention that the public in general and the media in particular are also interested in the story of terrorism. Through that point, they are helping the terrorism to serve their own purpose. It must be acknowledged that covering news is a social responsibility of the media. Specifically, the medias function is to protect societys right to know (Perl 1997), therefore, covering terrorist incidents is just a part of carrying out this target of the media. However, to some extent, covering terrorist issues is no longer a simple social responsibility of the media. Besides that, the media are somehow taking advantage of terrorism as a way to attract more public attention and as a result, it will certainly increase the viewer ratings. It is undeniable that viewer ratings play a very crucial role in the income of the media. Attracting more viewers of a TV channel is synonymous with gaining more money which comes from advertisement incomes. Thus, it is obvious that every means of communication will try to attract more and more viewers in various ways and covering news regarding terrorists is not a bad choice. Therefore, the public interest is the main guideline for the media. As being stated by Nacos (2006), the characteristics of interest news to people are often "drama", "shock" and "tragedy" which are also three elements that the media crave the most. As a consequence, terrorist issue tends to be more attractive because with its different and special characteristics, it includes all of those listed drama, shock and tragedy elements. Like Christine Ockrent agreed that: the audience now want to be attracted by what they see in the media. And whether they are aware of or not: their desire to entertain overwhelms the need to know (Ockrent 2006, 77). Hence, there is no doubt that they are what the media are looking for. Alarming, dramatic plus the blood, and the horror of the victims. From those stated facts, it can be concluded that it is our interest that driving the media to over-cover terrorist news in many means of communication, even more frequently than poverty, unemployment or education news. It is brought to worldwide, out of the border of a specific country or area in this globalization era and the high development of the mass media. Overall, not only terrorists are using media to reach their targets but their targets somehow, also volunteer to find them with the help of mass media as an effective tool in the process. ------------------------------What is the solution for this? The world has changed. Our world has become increasingly globalised and international terrorism also increase too. In todays society, the media play an extremely important role and

information and news all over the world are updated all over the planet. Everything has two sides; we can not entirely resist global media due to terrorism effect. But in order to reduce the drawback of globalize media in term of terrorism, the media itself and government should take action. First of all, media censorship of statutory regulation should be established. If the media selectively present the news on terrorism without any exaggeration, ultimately terrorists will reduce the frequency on the media and then disappear. Also this policy may claim to affect the freedom of people in democratic countries, but the truth and moderate news presentation will be much better. Audience has the right to know the truth of the story and justify by themselves, not to entertain. Secondly, it is also necessary to think about the role of journalist in aware of their responsibility to reflex the truth to their audience. Lastly, it is the responsibility and rights of individuals in protecting themselves and judging what they read everyday. If each of us is aware of the information we approach, the terrorism has nothing to do with media. It thus, the democracy can still be kept among the people as well as provide them the most advantage of global media. III. Conclusion Some people believe that the recent volatility of the world signals a little brighter prospects to forget that volatility is a fundamental attribute of the world, in other words, the world has always and ever fluctuations. Ever, due to limitations on the level of science and technology, people have not kept pace with the changes of the world. Apparently, the development of science and technology, especially the media industry, as people increasingly puzzled by the fluctuation in the world while the occurrence of that event, the phenomenon in terms of net drugs, not necessarily new. The election is conducted everywhere with victory or failure of various factions. Coups or even the war too. Previously, due to the limitations of science and technology, information about changes in the world and their effect there is no way to quickly to people today. Recently, the modern world picture has a point - that is terrorism. It is a war between darkness and light, or in the words of some people, it is a fight of the fourth generation with "an invisible enemy and tangible, not where and everywhere, not a nerve center specific chemical and non-territorial.Researchers have shown that primitive forms of terrorism that the movement, then degenerated into the terrorist organization, or reactionary organizations non-governmental nature. At that time, we also political objectives, principles and certain social values. To conclude, it cannot be denied that the information revolution has become the useful tool to access the world wide news via internet or satellite TV. The speed of the development of headline news or breaking news thus, immediately impacts on an enormous people. Here though, the emphasis is on the competition for viewer rating and the income that the media gain from advertisement by exploiting or exacerbating the certain aspect of terrorism. In some cases, to satisfy the public interest, the consequence of media report may indirectly support for terrorists in achieving their objective. In another word, not only terrorist but also the public made the media to be the potential weapon for terrorist organizations.

By the repeating the terrorism information, at the same, the media unintentionally raise the awareness, attention and recognition about the terrorists among the public. It may lead to the changes or the negative effect on the perception of the viewers and readers. To tackle this problem, although it cannot be guaranteed that we could ban the media, there is the need of the effective censorship such as new legislations and policies from government that also do not affect the democracy of the citizens. Besides, it is necessary to think about the new methods to educate the journalist to be aware about their real tasks as well as guide the population to protect themselves in selecting the suitable news. The public itself and all of us also should be aware of the information we approach to not be exploited. It thus, can keep the democracy among the people as well as provide them the well news and the media will no longer can be the weapon used by the objectives of terrorism.
