1A.To improve reading analysis skills in Grades K-6 as measured by the Measurement of Student Progress
Action Plans 1. Staff will review and emphasize current Harcourt Curriculum for analysis skills and strategies application.
Desired Outcomes and Products Students will increase their ability to demonstrate reading analysis skills as evidenced by MSP tests annually and also Measures of Academic Progress three times per year. By improving reading analysis, we expect to improve all areas of Reading as measured by the MSP and MAP. Students will be able to increase their MSP scores in Reading Analysis to at least 80% at grade levels 3-6. Concern that the scores are good, but have remained flat at grades 3 and 5.
Time Frame Staff will compare cohort grade increases over a two year period, with results by end of the 2013 school year.
2. Staff will investigate Wright Group Guided Reading strategies for application of reading strategies (Funding to purchase professional development and supplemental reading materials for K-5 readers two times per week). Professional development investment will be worthwhile. 3. Grade 1 teachers will develop and report to the team a suitable assessment for reading analysis, so that the primary data can be incorporated in the plan.
Implementation Notes MAP scores will be reviewed in fall, winter and spring to assist in formative assessments and to develop reading analysis plans for individual students. Grade 2 teachers will use DRA as a teacher scored measure. First grade teachers will need to develop an assessment. (see action plan #3.) School is above or near 80% reading proficiency. Gains were noted in 4th grade reading over the last two years. Note also that the MSP was the first year of administration,
Staff will review language usage Scores on the MAP test as a formative measure MSP scores on grade 4 will be maintained at 80% or above
2011-2012 2011-2012
Implementation Notes Celebration: 4th grade writing score increased substantially over the course of 1 year, with exceptional convention scores. MSP only administered in grade 4 for writing. The writing notebook was created by staff to guide scope and sequence and align to standards. Third party to review for cohesion and rigor.
2011-2013
Action Plans 1. Curriculum has been updated for Every Day Math-- more aligned to state standards including updated teacher guides and student reference books, math journals and trimester assessments K-6 2. Staff have taken First Steps in Mathematics: Number training as a diagnostic and intervention program for teachers in K-6, focus primarily on K-4 3. Privately funded Math Intervention staffing targeted at students in grades 1 through 4
Desired Outcomes and Products Staff will focus on students who are not at standard by differentiating instruction for students who are not at standard and for students who need acceleration. The school will work on the communication and articulation of intervention services grades K-4.
Implementation Notes Staff will explore the idea of peer challenge for those who are at standard *Need to determine what curriculum will be used for the intervention program how will the model work (possibly Origo) Communication improvements with family letters in Spanish Concerns about low income achievement Continuation of current practice, using parent feedback from each math night.
2011-2012
Desired Outcomes and Products Provide Effective Interventions for Tier II students Increase student attendance at school by 5 % annually Reduction in Office Referrals by 10%
*Parent conference participation is high; however, we would like to quantify data for longitudinal tracking
Implementation Notes More difficult to measure climate; however, internal measures can be created Can use skyward system to measure attendance on a monthly and annual basis Parent participation at conferences can be measured Parent satisfaction data will need to be compiled and analyzed
