Team: Health and Wellness Team Salary range: $13.15 -$17.67 per hour Reports to: Administrative Assistant Schedule: Part time, 20 hours per week FLSA Status: Non Exempt from Overtime Last Revised: October, 2011 The ICHC Janitor is responsible for maintaining the required sanitation and general cleanliness required in a Primary Care Clinic. The incumbent performs a variety of routine work within established policies and procedures, and receives detailed instructions on new projects and assignments. Responsibilities/Duties: Sweeps and wet mops all linoleum floors including patient care areas and in restroom areas. Stocks paper towels in all bathrooms and patient rooms. Stocks toilet paper in all bathrooms. Dusts, cleans and sanitizes all counter tops, window ledges and horizontal surfaces in exam rooms, public waiting rooms, and office spaces-includes pulling items on counters forward and sanitizing behind them. Disinfects all clinic furniture including office and waiting room chairs, exam chairs and sofas. Disinfects and sanitizes exam rooms and exam tables per guidelines Spot cleans and vacuums all carpeted areas-including rugs. Disposes of all trash. Disposes of all infectious waste per guidelines. Prepares all infectious waste for shipping to the disposal plant. Cleans glass surfaces and windows. Cleans and sanitizes all sinks and toilet basins. Sanitizes bathroom counter surfaces. Ensures paper and soap dispensers are stocked and functional. Cleans windows in lobby including windowed door

Weekly
Terminally cleans all exam rooms and bathrooms. Disinfect and sanitize entire toilet, inside and outside including flushing mechanism. Disinfect and sanitize entire sink, inside and outside, underneath basin, all hardware including top and underside of faucet and any pipes or other plumbing hardware. Clean walls, particularly by toilet. Clean floors, get down on hands and knees to clean corners, behind doors and splashboards. Clean mirrors with no streaks or spots on the mirror or surrounding areas. Washes windows in exam rooms

As needed
Maintains janitorial equipment and storage areas in a clean and organized fashion. Monitors janitorial supply inventory, lets RN know when to order supplies Washes walls, ceiling joints, dusts light fixtures, kickboards, spot cleans walls as necessary.

Skills and Attributes: Must have the ability to see dirt and clean it up. Must be self-motivated and disciplined. Have the ability to keep commitment to tedious tasks and focus on getting the job done well. Experience Requirement: Previous janitorial experience in a medical setting preferred Ability to work without supervision. Valid Alaska State Drivers License

Education Requirements: This position must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.

Performance standard Regularly bend, crouch, stand, walk and move about to complete work. Typically grasps, holds small and large items. Typically lifts 15 lbs to coordinate work. Regularly uses sight to complete work. Typically uses power equipment such as vacuum. Environmental Factors Majority of work will be completed in an office within a medical primary care clinic. Exposure to Hazards: Housekeeping Products. Blood/Fluid Exposure Risk: Category II: Usual tasks do not involve exposure to blood, body fluid, or tissues but job has potential for mucous membrane or skin contact exposure to blood, fluids or tissue. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), when appropriate, is required.

Janitorial Checklist

Reception area and hallways


Walls spot cleaned (includes door moldings and underneath counter) Door handles disinfected Clean front entrance glass Any cobwebs removed Furniture wiped down and dusted, including sides, arm rests and feet Move magazines to wipe down furniture as necessary Coat racks, mirrors, TVs and other equipment dusted and wiped down dust picture frames Ledges, kickboards, heating registers wiped down Rugs vacuumed and spot cleaned Sanitize toys Procedure Wet and wipe down toys with solution made of one tablespoon bleach to gallon of water.
