Embraer 145v2 tutorial / version 1 Dec.2009 3 / 87 www.flytutorial.com

Welcome to this tutorial of the brand new Wilco/Feelthere Embraer 145 version 2!

This tutorial has been adapted from the previous version of the aircraft which is still available for download on www.flytutorial.com. It is targeted for experienced
users of flight simulation as it describes advanced functions and techniques of flight management. Beginners can however use this tutorial, as long as they refer
to the manual provided by the software publishing company.

The Embraer 145 is a fantastic regional jet that has been widely used throughout the world. Almost 1,000 aircraft based on the ERJ 145 platform have been
delivered, to over 860 airlines, logging over 10 million cumulative flight hours. Today the ERJ 145 Regional Jet family carries more than 150,000 passengers
every day in emerging and established markets around the world.

For more information about Embraer company, visit their website: http://www.embraercommercialjets.com

For the purpose of this tutorial, we will use the ERJ145 model to carry out a successful short flight from Casablanca, Morocco to Malaga, Spain.

CONVENTI ON USED 4
Embraer 145v2 tutorial / version 1 Dec.2009 4 / 87 www.flytutorial.com

This tutorial is consistently divided into two parts, with the illustrations/screenshots on the left, and the instructions/references on the right.

When complex and long configuration is required, such as FMS programming, the starting point will be illustrated with a screenshot on the left of the first page,
the instructions will be explained on the right of the same page, and the results of these instructions will be displayed onto the next page with a new screenshot.
Please report any typing errors or mistakes to contact@flytutorial.com

Red boxes are pointing at highlights on a screenshot, for example on the EICAS
screen to see the result of any particular actions.

This sign is drawing your attention to a specific command / action to undertake.
For example open or close the doors, set the parking brake, click on a switch, etc.
O O O O Sequences of numbers also shown on screenshots are referring to a set of ordered
actions, for example to power up the aircraft.
EICAS Words or abbreviations appearing in bold, underlined and blue are referenced in the
glossary at the end of the tutorial.

Lets start working!

The first step is to configure our aircraft using the Configurator tool available
from the Windows start button as illustrated here.

Click on Configuration to open the Configuration Panel. We will now review
the different tabs that require adjustments.

*

Load Manager tab

Click on the Load Manager tab. This is where most adjustments need to be
made for our flight:

Select the ERJ-145LR aircraft variation

Move the Passengers selector to 45 3.878 kilos

Move the Cargo selector to 75% - 766 kilos

Change the weight unit to Metric(KG)

_____________________________________________

This should give us a Zero Fuel Weight of 17.373 kilos.

Note : this tutorial is referring to the metric system. You can use Imperial
weight unit as well. You will just need to make the conversion from kilos

Additional modules

To enhance the flight simulation experience, you will be glad to hear that the
Embraer 145 is compatible with most hardware add-ons available on the
market. Here are a few examples of modules that can be used with this
aircraft.

The CDU II from Vrinsight is particularly useful and realistic and it simulates a
standard FMS with a full keyboard. It requires some adjustments though as it
does not work in full screen mode with FS9 and the screen needs to be
reworked to fit the EMB145 FMS.

For profile / .ini files / FSUIPC key configuration, make sure to check
www.flytutorial.com to get the latest updates.

Welcome to the Briefing Room!

Before boarding the aircraft this morning, we are going to review the latest
airport information, departure and arrival procedures and charts as well as
specific details about our flight.

Today we are flying 45 PAX and 700 kilos of cargo from GMMN Casablanca
Morocco to LEMG Malaga Spain. A short flight of approximately 266 miles.

The airline

You are flying today for Andalus, a young Spanish airline originating from
Malaga, Andaluca which is a one of the largest autonomous community of
Spain. As you can see from the destination map, Andalus mostly fly from Spain
to Morocco located in Northern Africa. It also operates flight to the island of
Palma de Mallorca and Portugal. Andalus operates an exclusive fleet of
Embraer 145.

Today aircraft is EC-KXQ, flight number 6201. The route Casablanca
Malaga has proven to be very popular for expats and families especially during
holiday times. It is also used by local businessmen who appreciate the fast
point to point connection between Spain and one of the most important city of
Morocco.

For more information about these regions, visit http://www.andalucia.org/ and

Fuel planning

Download and Install the excellent FlitePrep Suite from Jetvision.de.
This tool is great to calculate fuel quantities as well as Speed references for
take off and landing.

Run the program and enter the following values:

- Origin: GMMN
- Dest: LEMG
- Altn: LEGR (Granada is our alternate airport)
- Pax: 45
- Cgo: 766
- Outside External Temperature (OAT): Set to 10C/50F

The remaining values should be calculated automatically.

This is a giving us an estimated 2465 kilos

We will not use this tool during the flight, so we must now write down the
following values that will be needed to feed the FMS:

The tool is also providing us with the take-off and landing speeds but we will
use the table on the next page to do so.

Speed reference table

Here is a condensed version of the speed table for the Embraer 145.

We will use the first four columns of speed for take-off and the last four for
landing, the one in the middle is therefore used for both sequence of flight.

Our take off weight today is expected to be 19.645 kilos or 19.6 tons. The
closest reference here is 19.5. The line colour has been changed to red for
better reading. We will adjust the speeds once fully loaded with fuel, passenger
and cargo cross checked.

Our landing weight is expected to be 18.555 kilos, so our closest reference
here is 18.5 tons. The line colour has been changed in blue for better reading.
If in doubt regarding our exact landing weight, we could also refer to the
speeds for 19 tons.

Route planning

Connect to routefinder - http://rfinder.asalink.net/free/ and complete the
required information:

Departure : GMMN
Destination : LEGM

Database cycle : 0911

Tick the box 'Ease transitions'

Leave the other options and press Find Route you should get your
computed route such as illustrated on the left. The important information we
will need is the line at the bottom containing the waypoints and routes we will
manually enter into the FMS of the aircraft.

AIRAC cycles change every month. What this means is
that you may end up with a different route for the
same departure and destination airports.
The good news is you can still fly this tutorial even if you
dont have the latest cycle.
Just make sure you select the relevant cycle on
routefinder and then print or make a note of the route
result.

You only need the last line circled in red on the left.

ILS runway 13 landing

Should we land on runway 13, we must remember to set the ILS to a course of
134and set the frequency to 109.50 GMM.

The area around Malaga is far from being flat, therefore our minimum
approach altitude coming from Vejer is 5500 feet.

Several speed restrictions are enforced:

- MAX 250 KT at or below FL120.
- Reduce to 210 KT at the beginning of final turn to intercept the ILS LOC
course, when ACFT is located within 20 NM of THR.
- 180 KT when crossing 12 NM from THR.
- 160 KT when crossing GM Locator.

At 22 DME ILS, we will reduce altitude to 5000 feet. At 17 DME ILS, down to
4200 feet. We will intercept the glide slope - in Approach mode - at 12 DME
ILS. This will take us down smoothly until the runway threshold.

Our briefing is now complete!

Now the serious stuff begins!

Start Flight Simulator as usual then create a new flight.

Step 1 is selecting the aircraft Choose Embraer Feelthere and the
ERJ-145LR v2. Select the Andalus variation.

Step 2 is selecting the airport. Choose GMMN or Mohamed V located in
Casablanca city. Select Gate E9 Gate Medium.

Remember it is recommended that you install the Aerosoft scenery of
Casablanca. If you dont have this scenery installed, you may use the standard
FS scenery and choose an alternate parking stand.
GETTI NG ON BOARD! 2 2

Step 3 is selecting the weather. We will fly this tutorial using the real-
world weather conditions which should give us a more realistic situation.
Make sure you have an Internet connection to use this weather mode;
otherwise you will get regular annoying error messages from Flight Simulator.

If you are not familiar with flying with potential bad condition or just want a
more calm flight, choose Fair Weather from the Weather Themes.

The real-world weather option is making the weather changing all the time,
especially the winds so bear in mind that your flight may not be exactly the
same as this one demonstrated in this tutorial.

Step 4 is Time and Season. This flight was made on the 7
th
of
November 2009 at 11:55 local time.

Review your options then press Fly Now! to start.

HELLO CAPTAIN!

OK, we are now sitting in the cockpit into the left captain seat!

The cockpit should be cold and dark, no noise and nothing lit. The first good
news is that you will find this cockpit easy to familiarize with, Embraer has
made life easy for you and unlike older birds such as the MD82 for example,
everything here is rational and information is kept to a minimum, the Embraer
170 cockpit is certainly not a Xmas tree!

FMS Programming

It is now time to move to one of the most important phase of flight: FMS
programming. Basically, this consists of programming our route from our
departure to arrival, including SID and STAR procedures and determining
several parameters of flight such as performance, speeds, altitudes and
constraints.

Press the little FMS icon to open the Flight Management System

The Embraer 145 FMS is quite a simplified version compared to those
standard systems found on Boeing or Airbus for example. However, you
should quickly find your way round here if you are familiar with those.

In this tutorial, we will refer to 1L to 4L for keys to the left side, and 1R to 4R
for keys to the right side.

The scratchpad is the area where input text and numbers will be displayed

The Function keys will enable us to navigate between the major sections of
the FMS.

In case of typing mistakes, press CLR key at the bottom. The DEL key enables
to delete a whole line such as a navigation point we will use this later on.

reached in less than 1.000 feet.

The aircraft is going to level off automatically and maintain the altitude. The
vertical mode will switch from CLB to ALT. The altitude will de displayed in
cyan once reached.

Autopilot vertical modes: FLC and VS
In this type of aircraft, FLC mode is generally used for climbing
up to 10,000 feet. This mode automatically adjusts vertical
speed to maintain a maximum air speed of 250 kts. Passing
10,000 feet, FLC mode will adjust vertical speed to reach Mach
0.56. VS mode is used when constant vertical speed is required
- 2,000 feet / minute for example.
In case of turbulence, it is best to use VS instead of FLC
mode.

Before or after activation, it is
also good to check the arrival
procedure on the MFD

Press B2 SKP and B3
RCL to move across the
flightplan.
On the FMS, the flight plan now
consists of 6 pages.

Press to go to page
2.

Visually check that there are no
errors on the arrival and that the
flight plan is consistent.

On this page, we can see that we
will fly the cruising altitude at
least until VJF, then start descent
to reach an estimate 8.267 feet at
MAR, then continue descending
to DME22 at 5.500 feet.

Press to go to page
3.

Once the flight plan checked, it is
important to return to the current
waypoint by pressing RTN
several times until the aircraft is
back to its current position.

Page 3 is in accordance and
consistent with the rest of the
flight plan, so we dont need to
change the altitude levels here.

PREPARI NG APPROACH AND DESCENT 6 1
Embraer 145v2 tutorial / version 1 Dec.2009 61 / 87 www.flytutorial.com

Passing KORIS, the next waypoint VEJER is quite near, only 4 minutes
to get to it. From the MFD, we can see that the TOD will be reached just
after VEJER.

Turn the ASEL knob of the FGC to select 10.000 feet. Check the
ASEL value in blue on the PFD.

The aircraft will not descent before reaching the TOD.

In preparation for landing, rotate the Decision Height knob to set a
value of 500 feet. Check on the PFD that the value is correctly set.

Passing VEJER, the TOD is very close.

You can check the exact TOD moment by opening page 2 of the FMS
PROGRESS section.

PREPARI NG APPROACH AND DESCENT 6 2
Embraer 145v2 tutorial / version 1 Dec.2009 62 / 87 www.flytutorial.com

At TOD, a little pink triangle will appear on the PFD as illustrated here.

Run the BEFORE DESCEND check list from Call!

FMS/RMS SPEED SETTING .... ON

Press FLC on the FGC so that the aircraft start descending.

Check the active mode on the PFD: ALT should become DES. ASEL is the
armed mode. In this example, the aircraft will therefore descent until reaching
10.000 feet.

The little pink triangle should ideally stay in the middle of the vertical scale
area. If the triangle goes down, we are not descending fast enough, if it
goes up, we are descending too fast.

It may be useless to attempt to manually adjust
the vertical speed if the little pink triangle goes
out of range either up or down. For optimal
descent path, refer to speed calculation tables.

Set TCAS to BELOW mode for descent, with a range of 20 nautical miles
PREPARI NG APPROACH AND DESCENT 6 3

We are now going to enter our approach and landing speeds, using the
estimated landing weight given by the FMS.

Open the FMS, press then 1L PERF DATA then and
check the GROSS WT value 18.7 tons in our example.

Using the speed reference table on page 13, enter the approach speeds
on the MFD. Press B2 - MFD then press B2 - SPD

V1 = 127 / Optimal Approach Speed.
VR = 137 / Reference Speed for landing with flaps 45.
V2 = 154 / TO/GA security speed with flaps 9.
AP = 163 / Landing Speed Target

OVERSPEED! OVERSPEED!

While descending, continuously adjust throttles to avoid over speed aural
warnings.

In case the aircraft is not descending fast enough, press VS mode on the FGC
and increase the vertical speed by rotating the SPD button. In this example,
the vertical speed is set to 2,600 feet / minute.

Increasing the vertical speed will also increase the air speed of the
aircraft. Always compensate by reducing thrust if necessary to lower
speed.

PREPARI NG APPROACH AND DESCENT 6 4
Embraer 145v2 tutorial / version 1 Dec.2009 64 / 87 www.flytutorial.com

We are now going to set the ILS frequency for runway 13 in preparation for
landing. There are several ways to do this and we will use the FMS.

Open the FMS, press then 4R - TUNE

Type 109.50 which is the ILS frequency for LEMG Runway 13 then insert
it into NAV1 by pressing 3L.

Check on the RMU that 109.50 is active.

Approaching MAR, reduce Altitude to 5.000 feet. Check that the active
vertical mode is still engaged DES should be displayed in green on the
PFD.

The current altitude is 11.460 feet on this screenshot. At 10.000 feet, we
must not exceed 250 knots!

Start reducing the speed in advance by reducing the throttles

From the overhead panel, switch the Seat Belt and the Landing lights

APPENDI X 7 4
Embraer 145v2 tutorial / version 1 Dec.2009 74 / 87 www.flytutorial.com

The appendix introduce the advanced features of the FMS.

The following pages are not directly referring to the flight of this tutorial. They have been taken from the previous version of the Emb 145 tutorial. However, they
can fully be adapted to any flight situations.

Appendix A Saving a Flight Plan
Appendix B Modifying a saved Flight Plan
Appendix C Adding missing waypoints to the Nav. database
Appendix D Creating a STAR procedure
Appendix E Adding and flying HOLD procedures

APPENDI X A Savi ng a Fl i ght Pl an 7 5
Embraer 145v2 tutorial / version 1 Dec.2009 75 / 87 www.flytutorial.com

In this example, we will create the following flight plan: Paris Orly LFPO -> Perpignan Rivesaltes LFMP

LFPO SID TURBO DCT BADAM UY27 SIJAN STAR LFMP

Open up the FMS and press 4R

Embraer 145v2 tutorial / version 1 Dec.2009 78 / 87 www.flytutorial.com

You may have to manually add waypoints from time to time as not every one of them is stored in the Navdata file of the FMS, especially if you want to create SID
or STAR procedures. In this example, we want to add a new waypoint which location is:

North 4246.55 - East 253.57

Open up the FMS then press
4R POS INIT.

Press function key.

Press 2R - LOAD

Press 2L WPT LIST

APPENDI X C Addi ng mi ssi ng waypoi nt s t o t he Nav. dat abase 7 9
Embraer 145v2 tutorial / version 1 Dec.2009 79 / 87 www.flytutorial.com

In this example, several waypoints
have already been created.

Lets give a name to the waypoint we
are now creating:

Type in FIX01 then press 1L

Press 4L to get back to the
waypoint list. Repeat this
procedure to add any extra
waypoint.

We now need to enter its location:

Type in exactly
N4246.5E00253.6 then press 2L

46.55 has been rounded to 46.5.
Same thing for 53.57 that has been
rounded to 53.6 this is a
requirement for this FMS.

A new file is created every time
you add a new waypoint. These
small files are stored in the Flight
Simulator 9 / Feelthere /
CustomDB folder as illustrated
here.

It is best to backup these files in a safe place just in case you encounter a problem or overwriting of these files

APPENDI X D Creat i ng a STAR procedure 8 0
Embraer 145v2 tutorial / version 1 Dec.2009 80 / 87 www.flytutorial.com

In this example, we are going to create the STAR SIJAN procedure for runway 33 of Perpignan Airport. At the time of writing this tutorial, this procedure does not
exist in the NavData so its a good example and can virtually be adapted to any other SID / STAR procedure you might want to create.

Important : you must read the appendix C in order to fully understand whats coming next.

APPENDI X D Creat i ng a STAR procedure 8 1
Embraer 145v2 tutorial / version 1 Dec.2009 81 / 87 www.flytutorial.com

1st step: Get the geographical location of STAR waypoints.

We will use FSNavigator www.fsnavigator.com - to generate a flight plan from SIJAN waypoint to the STAR procedure for runway 33:

2
nd
step: Waypoint creation

Refer to the previous chapter to create the different waypoints that will enable
us to build up our STAR procedure. In this example, we will need to create the
following waypoints:

APPENDI X D Creat i ng a STAR procedure 8 2
Embraer 145v2 tutorial / version 1 Dec.2009 82 / 87 www.flytutorial.com

Always name your waypoints in a sensible way so that you will find them easily when yo need them. Here I chose the first 3 letters of the name of SIJAN STAR
followed by an order number.

3rd step: STAR procedure construction using the flight plan saving facility.

We are now going to create a new flight plan that will not start and end with an airport name but instead navaids or waypoints.

have just created is listed.

APPENDI X E Addi ng and f l yi ng HOLD procedures 8 5
Embraer 145v2 tutorial / version 1 Dec.2009 85 / 87 www.flytutorial.com

You can easily add a HOLD procedure to your flight plan. You can either do this on the ground while entering your flight plan or later while en route.

The procedure to follow is fairly simple. In this example, we will load the existing STARSIJAN flight plan that we created previously and we will add a HOLD
procedure at SIJ01 waypoint, which is FIX01 on FSnavigator map see page 61 and in real life close to LANET see map page 60 which is where aircrafts
hold at Perpignan airport

Open up the FMS and load our
flight plan STARSIJAN. Make sure
this flight plan is active into the
memory of the FMS before moving
ahead. Once activated, you should
get something like this.

Press key

Press 1L HOLD

*HOLD* is now displayed in the
scratchpad area.

Press 4L PATTERN

Press 2L SIJ01 to add HOLD
to it

to replace the existing pattern.
If you change the length of the leg like
3NM below, the time leg will also
change 0.7 minutes here, which is 42
seconds.

Should you decide to to remove the
Holding pattern:

Press

Press 4L - PATTERN

Press 1L HOLD

Press 2L SIJ01

Press 4R - ACTIVATE

Press 4L CLEAR to cancel
HOLD.

H letter disappears from SIJ01
waypoint. Check that the holding
pattern has also disappeared on the
map.

H letter indicates where our Holding
pattern will take place.

Also check the holding pattern on the
map:

When flying, our aircraft will
automatically enter the holding pattern
when reaching the H waypoint. You
can cancel the holding pattern before
entering it.
In the following example, a HOLD pattern
was defined on SIJ05. As you reach the
previous waypoint -SIJ04 - EXIT HOLD
comes up under 4L. To cancel HOLD,
simply press 4L. If not the aircraft will enter
HOLD upon reaching SIJ05. EXIT HOLD
remains active until you decide to exit the
pattern by pressing 4L.
