Artevia IM Mixes
The Artevia IM range has been designed specifically for stamped and imprinted concrete applications to receive coloured surface hardeners. Key factors being the inclusion of air entraining agents and fibres as standard ingredients, along with optimum fines content. This simplifies the ordering process and ensures correct concrete can be specified and supplied with confidence. To ensure the correct grade of concrete is used for the specific purpose of imprinted concrete, Lafarge Readymix have developed a range of IM mixes, designed to comply with concrete society guidelines and available with 20mm and 10mm aggregates. CEM 1 is the preferred option but depending on conditions, blended cements are available. The Concrete Societys Imprinted Concrete - Model Installation Clauses and Guidance Notes recommends the following specification for imprinted concrete: Cement type CEM I with an option for blended cement CIIS (35% blast furnace slag) or type CIIA-V (20% PFA) Air entrainment to provide resistance to freeze/ thaw Fibres 0.6 0.9kg/m3 This produces a more cohesive concrete with reduced bleed, improves surface wear qualities and reduces plastic shrinkage cracking. Minimum cement content 320kg/m3 This can be reduced for 20mm aggregates Water cement ratio max 0.60 Some aggregate combinations at lower cement contents, particularly 10mm aggregate, may not comply Fines content 5060%

APPLICATION METHOD
Concrete is laid by conventional methods. The colour hardener should be applied when no bleed water remains on the concrete surface. When hand-cast, colour hardener is applied in two casts floating in between each casting. The areas furthest from the edges should be cast first taking care not to cast from the same point, thus avoiding build up. The second application should be cast at 90 degrees to the first application paying particular attention to any areas that may be colour-shy. After each application the colour hardener must be allowed to dampen and absorb the surface bleed water. Float into the surface by hand magnesium float. When machine applied it is best used in conjunction with power-floating. In dry, hot or windy conditions the use of an evaporation reducing agent such as Lafarge Confilm should be considered. The minimum coverage rate is 3kg/m2. However, for lighter colours a coverage application rate of up to 4kg/m2 may be required, depending on the colour of the hardener and the colour of the base concrete. In order to enhance the colour, improve durability and prevent dirt build-up Lafarge recommends the use of Lafarge acrylic sealer to colour hardened surfaces.
