Tracy Nolan (35+ Lakeland Crew)

World Series Games Heat Up Fast As The Temperatures Rise

Tracy Nolan (left) with his brother Roger. Baseball roots grow deep and last through many generations. The backup catcher for Josh Gibson in the old Negro League, a member of the 1935 League Champion Pittsburgh Crawfords has a grandson who became an adult baseball player at age 40 and has been winning championships ever since. Tracy Nolan manages the Lakeland Crew and has won three consecutive 25+W Nationals, along with a bucket full of local and regional crowns. His wife, Donnelle read an article in the local paper about tryouts and knew right away that this would be a wonderful opportunity for him, even though he hadnt touched a baseball since 1976. Their children, Mariah (31), Tracy,Jr.(27), Julian(16), and their grandson all admire the commitment Tracy has shown in his 10 years at the MSBL World Series. During the 6 years he has managed, easily the most emotional experience for him and the Crew occurred when teammate Kevin Lidle lost his twin brother, Corey. Everyone would have understood and supported Kevin if he had chosen not to play that year, but in tribute to his brother, Kevin dedicated his and the Crews efforts to Corey, resulting in exceptional play (Kevin pitched a complete game) and won the championship! Many opponents of the Crew have come to respect and appreciate the way they play the game, and the emotional bonds each member of the team exhibits during competition. Tracy has had an interesting career, beginning with the start up of FedEx in Pittsburgh (where he grew up playing baseball), then he got involved with dot com start ups. That led him into his (continued on page 3)

Day two of the MSBL / MABL World Series saw plenty of close games and even a few not so close games. While the temperature climbed into the high 90s, it did not seem to affect many of the participants. Players and umpires alike were all drinking lots of fluids during the day to stay hydrated. New to the MSBL / MABL World Series this year is the Salt River Fields Complex in Scottsdale. After two days of play this new complex is getting nothing but great reviews from players and spectators alike. Even in a bad economy it sure seems like you can build a pretty good baseball complex for $170 million dollars! Despite putting the special MSBL / MABL playing rules in writing and posting them on the web site and sending them out before the tournament began, on occasion some of these rules might still get misinterpreted by some of the participants. So its understandable that the WS staff would receive a few questions each day about the rules. Regarding the courtesy runner, its always the last batted out that gets to run. In the event this would take place in the first inning with no outs, the last batter in the line up would run. The folks at Sprint have come up with a special offer for all MSBL / MABL players who are interested in getting new I Phone 4 and I Phone 4S. See the back page for more details.

Remember - No Drinking or Tobacco products are allowed on the fields during the MSBL / MABL World Series.

35+ W Central Division Las Vegas Bears batter, Jason Short delivers big time in this at bat driving in two runs in his teams 5-3 win over the Colorado Bandits yesterday.

Glen Williams is back playing MSBL Baseball after suffering a horrendous injury 3 years ago. While batting in 2008, Glen was struck in the left eye, which in turn cracked his skull and pushed his eye socket inward. This year Glen, who plays for the St. Louis Cardinals in the 55+ Central Division, bats wearing a steel face guard similar to a hockey player and is doing just great. For more punishment, Glen also manages to pitch for the team without using his mask.
