Moderator

Guidelines
As moderators for the Occupy Seattle Livestream channel, we have multiple responsibilities; to keep the chat peaceful and positive, to promote the sharing of accurate information, to facilitate progressive conversations between chat members and to keep the conversations focused on immediate issues of importance. In a perfect world, we wouldnt need moderators, and we all know this world is far from perfect. In order to do our jobs well we will sometimes have to enforce rules, rules that should not be abused. Heres a quick rundown of the moderator controls: There is a toolbar on the bottom of the chat box. To the left are the text tools To the right are the mod tools

These tools are self-explanatory; please familiarize yourself with these tools. To avoid moderating other moderators, please familiarize yourselves with who is who. (Click on the person icon, all mods are listed on the top).

Keeping the chat room peaceful and positive is very important.

If there is any negativity, please address the individual with a positive approach. Let the other chat members do the same. Give the individual a chance to voice concerns. Please do not be too quick to ban/remove comments. It is very important that we do not censor members. If you have a member that is consistently negative, give them ample warnings (3). If the negativity continues follow with a 5 min ban, 24hr ban, 2 week ban and then permanently. Use your judgment. We have no tolerance for racist/sexist slurs or negativity of any kind towards our reporters. We do not bash police. If the chat gets totally out of control, pause chat for moderator only. Say what you need to say i.e. reiteration of chat guidelines, and then open the room back up. You can also clear all messages if need be.

We are all about sharing accurate information.

Sometimes, rumors are inevitable. If you can confirm any info please do. If you know of any information to be false, please correct it.

We like focus
In order to maintain the focus on more important matters, we should not allow links during any G.A.s and between these hours 7am-8am and 10pm- 11pm (Generally during any important broadcasting). All bold, caps and underline should be reserved for use of the mods only. Exceptions to this will be when someone uses it sparingly to get points across. While live, any questions directed towards reporter may be used in underline. Of course there will be exceptions. This is a global movement and there will be times when others will share links for important info. We should never dissuade the sharing of important info regarding other cities. During these times we should always attempt to encourage the topics of conversation to be relevant towards the current event. During downtime, if the members want to discuss politics/religion it really is their right to do so, as long as it stays civil and as long no-one attempts to attach political endorsements or religious views to the movement. Use your judgment. The same guidelines for dealing with negative members apply here as well. Several warnings followed by bans.
