"SEISMIC END PLATE MOMENT CONNECTION"

Program Description:
This is a spreadsheet program written in MS-Excel for the purpose of analysis of an end plate moment connections with seismic provisions. It is based on AISC "Seismic Provisions for Structural Buildings" and "Prequalified Connections for Special and Intermediate Moment Frames for Seismic Applications" It uses the extended plate configuration which has been extensively tested and found to be suitable for fully constrained(FR ot Type 1) connection with seismic applications. This program concentrates on four primary design parameters for the design of extended end-plate moment connections;

1. The required Connection design Moment 2. Connection Bolt Strength 3. End Plate Stength 4. Column Flange Bending Program Assumptions and Limitations:
1. This program uses the database of member dimensions and section properties from the "AISC Shapes Database". 2. Currently, the program check if stiffeners are required but, it will not do their design. 3. Currently, the program will not design the welds. 4. The design procedure is valid for ASTM A325or ASTM A490 Bolts. 5. All bolts are to be pretension accoding to AISC specifications. 6. All shear is assumed to be resisted by the compression side bolts. 7. Column stiffeners are expensive to fabricate and can interfere with weak axis column framing. Therefore, it is recommended that they be avoided whenever possible. If the need for a stiffener is marginal it is usually more economical to increase the column size rather than install stiffeners.
