ESTABLISHED PRODUCER OF TOP QUALITY STEEL PRODUCTS

Mittal Steel Ostrava a.s. (formerly Nov Hu, a.s. Ostrava) is the largest steel-making company in the Czech Republic and a part of the worlds largest steel producer Mittal Steel. In Mittal Steel Ostrava a.s. production of hot-rolled flat products has long-time tradition. Production of hot-rolled strips started in 1958. Between 1997 and 1999 the production facility for production of hot-rolled strips underwent fundamental modernization.

In 1997 a slab continuous casting facility was put in operation and in 1999 a new wide-strip mill P 1500 Steckel followed. Manufacturing capacity of the Steckel wide-strip mill is 1 mill. t/year of hot-rolled wide strips. It was not only substantial diversification in strips in terms of size and quality that the mill brought about. It also created conditions for further enrichment of the product range by new steel grades destined for production of hot-rolled strips.

Mittal steel Ostrava a.s. is the holder of the Quality Management System certificate according to SN EN ISO 9001 awarded by German company RW TV. Mittal Steel Ostrava a.s. is certified for the whole range of hot-rolled products of width between 20 mm and 1575 mm and wall thickness between 1.5 mm and 13.0 mm.

Introduction
Dear customers, You are in receipt of an offer catalogue of hot-rolled flat products, which are produced in Mittal Steel Ostrava a.s. (formerly ISPAT NOVA HUT, a.s.). This catalogue represents the basic offer of hot-rolled flat products and shall gradually be extended and refined in new editions through the acquiring of a new technology at the wide-strip Steckel rolling mill.

Description of production technology

The steel for production of flat products is produced by oxygen procedure in the 200-ton tilting tandem furnace at the Steel Plant. In 2/3 the basic input raw material of the melting charge is hot metal, which is supplied by VYSOK PECE OSTRAVA, a.s. (in which Mittal Steel Ostrava a.s. has majority interest). Remaining 1/3 is steel scrap, scrap iron, sponge iron and iron ore.

Production of the hot-rolled wide strip

Liquid steel is transported in ladles to the Minimill area where the steel is processed at the ladle furnace. The following operations take place at the ladle furnace: temperature and chemical homogenization steel deoxidation and accurate alloying to achieve the required chemical composition desulphurization reduction of the contents of non-metallic inclusions adjustment of temperature to the specified casting temperature

After the secondary steel processing at the ladle furnace is finished, the ladle containing treated steel is embedded in the turret and the steel is cast through the tundish into the mold. At the slab continuous caster blanks of width from 740 mm to 1575 mm and of 150 mm thickness are cast. The continuously cast blanks are cut up to pieces of max. 18 m length and transported in hot condition by a roller conveyer to the reheating and equalizing walking beam furnace. After heating to the rolling temperature the slabs are transported to the rolling mill stands of the P-1500 Steckel rolling mill. After descaling the slabs are guided into the double-stand tandem reversing rolling mill with one vertical edging mill. The rolling mill is equipped with two furnace coilers equalizing the temperature of the hot strip and reducing its cooling during rolling. The process of rolling itself is fully automated. After the last pass through the mill stand the strip is guided by the roll table through 7 sections of the laminar cooling into the finished strip coiler. After coiling, adjustment and marking coils are transported to the storage area. For further processing the hot-rolled strips from the Steckel wide-strip mill are delivered directly to customers or are transported to the shearing lines. The shearing lines enable trimming of side edges of coils, cutting of 33 t coils to coils of lower total weight, slitting of wide strips to narrow strips and cutting of strips into sheets. At present there are 3 slitting lines and 2 cut-to-length lines for production of sheets. The production facility of the Steckel rolling mill is projected for a yearly output of c.1 000 000 tons of hot-rolled flat products.

Used terminology
The names of products used in this catalogue are in conformity to the standard SN EN 10079:1996 Definitions of steel products Semifinished products (continuously cast blanks) Semifinished products are continuously cast blanks (slabs) destined for production of hot-rolled strips.

Hot-rolled strip without coating

Both the European and the national standards distinguish two basic types of hot-rolled flat products: hot-rolled strips and hot-rolled sheets. The hot-rolled strip without coating is a hot-rolled product, which is coiled immediately after passing through the finishing mill stand. After the finishing rolling the hot-rolled strip has either slightly rounded edges or trimmed edges in the case of slit wide strip. Hot-rolled strips are divided into: Hot-rolled wide strips (of width above 600 mm) Slit hot-rolled wide strips (of rolled width above 600 mm and width after slitting below 600 mm)

Hot-rolled sheet without coating

The hot-rolled sheet without coating is a hot-rolled product with clear edge forming, supplied in tables and with surface in condition after rolling, mostly of square shape and of width equal to or above 600 mm. The edges are either in condition after rolling (natural edges) or trimmed. The sheet produced by cutting of the wide strip at the continuous mill train is called the hot-rolled sheet

In terms of thickness flat products are divided into Thin sheets and strips ( of thickness below 3.0 mm) Thick sheets (plates) and strips (of thickness above or equal to 3.0 mm)

Steel grades, chemical composition

The chemical analyses of steels, which are stated in the tables of grades suitable for production of hot-rolled strips, should be considered informative. The chemical composition of steels according to various standards can differ in the contents of individual elements. For standard supplies the determinant is the contents of elements specified in the respective standard. If agreed by the production plant, steel strips with modified chemical composition can also be supplied.

Hot-rolled sheet metal in thickness from 1.5 to 2.0 mm is produced within the width range stated in the manufacturing potential of the wide hot-rolled strips in coils at the Steckel rolling mill. Possibilities of supplies have to be agreed with the production plant. Hot-rolled sheets of width between 740 and 980 mm are produced and supplied in limited quantities and after agreement with the production plant. Hot-rolled sheet metal with natural edge is supplied in steel grades S235JR and S235JRG2 in thickness of up to 15.0 mm. Supplies of hot-rolled sheet metal with natural edge of steel grades S235J0, S235J2G3, S235J2G4 in thickness between 13.0 mm and 15.0 mm have to be discussed with the production plant and the respective sales persons.
