Question 1 Read the following text and complete the given task.
Freshwater swamp forests occur on shallow peat and a fertile subsoil that is regularly or occasionally inundated by mineral-rich fresh water. The soil and drainage water have a pH value that is higher than 4.0. Peatswamp forests, on the other hand, develop on deep peat that is nutrient deficient and which receives water only from rainfall. There, water level in peatswamp forests fluctuate drastically between the wet and dry seasons. Having a pH of less than 4.0 shows that the deep peat soil and water of a peat swamp forest are more acidic than those of a freshwater swamp forest.
Although freshwater and peatswamp forests develop on different peat depths, they share certain tree species, such as meranti and pulai. This results in the two forest types having an identical forest structure.

Question 2 Read the following text and complete the given task.
Many people may suffer from allergic rhinitis which is the adverse reaction to inhalant allergens. This means that they have allergic reaction to the lining of the nose. Sometimes, the eyes are affected as well. There are two patterns to the problem: perennial symptoms and seasonal symptoms. The major allergens in perennial allergic rhinitis are house dust and mould spores. In seasonal allergic rhinitis, pollens and mould spores are the main offenders. The pollens are usually from trees, grass and weeds, all of which are carried by the wind to provide cross-pollination for these plants. Flowering plants which depend on insect pollination produce smaller quantities of sticky pollen that do not often cause nasal allergy. People who suffer from this problem often rub their noses. Sometimes, the eyes may be affected. They become red and watery. They may also itch. Other signs include nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing and itching of the nose, eyes and sometimes irritation of the throat. There are some solutions to these symptoms. The first is to avoid the offending allergens whenever possible. However, this is not possible if the patients are allergic to pollens since it is pervasive in the air. Another solution is to prescribe antihistamine which is used to block the action of the histamine, released by the cells in the nose. It is the action of the histamine which causes much of the sneezing, itching and runny nose. Decongestants are also prescribed to reduce the swelling of the lining of the nose. Although the use of both drugs are effective in the treatment of allergic rhinitis, doctors caution against their side-effects which is drowsiness for the former and nervousness for the latter.

DISADVANTAGES
HYDROELECTRIC ENERGY
WIND ENERGY
Dams are expensive to build Building of dams may harm the environment Does not cause Wind farms air pollution can only be developed in areas with constant wind Large amount of energy can be obtained from small amount of radioactive substances Nuclear waste produces radiation
NUCLEAR ENERGY
Write a report on alternative sources of energy. In your report, you must: use all the information given elaborate by giving relevant information provide any other additional information
Your report should not be less than 200 words. (30 marks )
