DOWNTOWN REVIVAL

As part of a major spending plan, the city is proposing $69 million worth of improvements to key downtown facilities, including the Fox Theater, the Riverside Metropolitan Museum, the Convention Center, the Municipal Auditorium and the Main Street pedestrian mall.

Fox Theater

THEATER ROOF
The roof needs to be sealed, reinforced and anchored to comply with building codes. Ideally, the original paint would be preserved on the ceiling, but water damage could make that difficult.

DUAL-PURPOSE CONCESSIONS
For the space facing Market Street. The wall would be opened to allow access. Concessions would be available during events, and a daytime cafe could operate when the theater is not in use.
RETAIL SPACE ENTRANCE ELEVATOR

RETAIL SPACE
The space facing Mission Inn Avenue would be used for retail and offices.

TICKET BOOTH
RETAIL SPACE BOX OFFICE THEATER OFFICES

STAGE HOUSE
A wall had been constructed across the stage opening, and this section of the building had been used as an adult theater. The wall would be removed and the stage renovated.

This would replace the existing booth at the front of the theater. Three windows would be set against the west wall.

Tiles on the inside walls of the theater, originally used to absorb amplified sound in early movies, would be replaced with travertine texturing (brushed effect).

BALCONY
Redesigned at a steeper angle to improve the view of the stage. An additional exit would be added on each side, and the projection room would be removed. There would be no center aisle, similar to the main floor.

A full-size orchestra pit would be installed in the area where the original pit existed. Live stage production accommodations would be designed into this area, including dressing rooms and showers, a green room (performers lounge), wardrobe and laundry facilities and loading area.

The old theater seats will be replaced.

Convention Center: $20 million would be used

to expand and modernize the complex, and add more parking.

Public Safety Administration Building:

The proposed $20 million building would replace the city police facility (below). It would be the headquarters for both police and fire departments and could be built near White Park downtown.

Riverside Metropolitan Museum:

City officials want to seismically retrofit the museum and remodel the building to better showcase and expand its collection. The project carries an estimated $10 million price tag.

Main Library: $12.5 million would be used for

expanding the Main Library downtown.

Municipal Auditorium: $1.2 million to seismically

retrofit the structure.
