2.3 Environmental conditions
The location of a site may directly affect the correct operation of the base station.
In terms of excessive salt contamination situations it is recommended not to place the
shelter close to coastal areas in order to avoid shorter maintenance intervals.
It is recommended to keep a distance of about >1600 m / ~ 1 Mile from the coast.
Enclosures on coastal sites should not be installed with neither the air outlets nor the air
inlets facing directly into prevailing sea winds or spray.
Sites located close to excessive airborne dust clouds i.e. cement, coal deposits etc.
should also be minimized in order to avoid contamination of the cooling system and
increased maintenance.
The installation nearby emissions of hydrocarbon gas (e.g. chimney, exhaust air outlets)
is not recommended to avoid shorter maintenance intervals of the membrane filters.
2.4 Site configuration
The operation of the BS-82 II eMicro requires additional equipment on site:

The BS-82 II eMicro contains two Carrier Units (can be CU, EDGE-CU or FlexCU) and
the combining equipment that can be DUAMCO or MFDUAMCO (SH:EMICRO-2V4 / -
2V5 only). The base shelter contains the Core module (COBA) and can be intercon-
nected with 2 extension shelters by the CCLink-connection and the CAN-bus.
Each AC supplied shelter contains an AC/DC converter module (AC/DCM-2), that
converts the 120 - 240 V input voltage into the -48 VDC operation voltage.
The DC supplied BS-82 II will be powered by an external -48 VDC source.
A backup battery system can be connected to the AC/DC converter module (AC
supplied cabinet only). The battery guarantees continuous operation for a certain time
in case of a mains breakdown or AC/DC converter module failure.
The product has been evaluated for protection against water splashing the enclosure
from any direction and for ingress protection according to IP 55 (EN60529) respectively
USA NEMA/UL50 Type 3R.
g NOTE
If no more than one Carrier Unit is needed in a cabinet, the second empty slot shall
be covered by a cover part CP:CUVx, to guarantee the original airflow for sufficient
convection cooling of the modules! This applies also to the DIAMCO and the COBA-
slot in the extension shelters and for the ACDC-slot in DC supplied shelters.

Hint for cable connections of the BS-82 II eMicro for the US-market:
Before starting installation of Data Circuits and External Interconnection Cables pay
attention to the relevant sections of the National Electric Code (NEC) and the corre-
sponding articles of the Canadian Electric Code (CEC).
Transient voltage surge suppression and primary protectors are not required at the
entry of the wiring to the shelter if the exposed wiring is limited to less or equal to
140 feet.
Make sure the proper clearance of data wiring from power and lightning conductors
in accordance to the valid sections of the NEC and CEC.
Refer before starting the installation of the antenna connections to the relevant
articles of the NEC and CEC.
Additionally pay attention to the NEC and corresponding CEC rules before starting
the cable works.

2.8.2 Ground and power supply connections
2.8.2.1 Ground connection
The shelter has to be connected to the local grounding system before starting any other
connection works. The ground wire must be a copper conductor with a cross section of
16 mm2 (AWG #6 for the US-market).
To provide a lightning protection level III (acc. ENV 61024-1) the following must be con-
sidered on site:
Symmetrical installation of Base Shelter and (optional) Extension Shelters. The
same length of the corresponding cables has to be guaranteed.
The AC supply line of each shelter has to be protected with its own AC-protect
module.
The AC-protect modules have to be installed as close as possible to the shelters.
The screens of the external cables have to be grounded at a common ground point
as close as possible to the shelter.
Each shelter hasto be connected separately with the common ground point.
The grounding wires of the shelters must have the same length and the ground wires
of the AC-protect modules must have the same length.
The ground wire has to be connected at one of the M8 ground bolts at the bottom of the
shelter (see Figure 33).

2.8.2.2 AC power supply connections
If the BS-82 II eMicro is powered by AC voltage (input voltage range 120-240 VAC,
single phase), an external circuit breaker 16A has to be installed in the phase and the
neutral conductor.
Figure 35 shows the location of the 3 pole terminal block for connection of the AC supply
cable. The cable must be a 3 wire type with a the PE conductor inside.
If a flexible cable type will be used, all wire ends must be equipped with a husk. The
outer diameter of the cable is limited in a range of 8 mm - 10 mm (~1/3).

2.8.3 Abis-interface - PCM link terminal
The Abis interface provides the communication links to the neighboring Base Stations
or to the controlling BSC. The Abis interface is terminated with Overvoltage Protection
(OVPT) which protects the boards inside the BS-82 II eMicro against overvoltage if the
link equipment is located outside the shelter. If this feature is not required, the Abis inter-
face can be equipped with the ABISCON. The wiring of both types of Abis-terminations
is equal.
Two types of OVPT and ABISCON exist:
OVPTCOAX for 75 Ohm cable and OVPT for 100/120 Ohm cables
ABISCONCX for 75 Ohm cable and ABISCON for 100/120 Ohm cables
Depending on the cable impedances it is recommended to:
use braided shield cable containing 8/10 shielded twisted pairs for 100 /120 Ohm
PCM lines, e.g. S-09YS(ST)CY 8x2x0.6/1.2.
use coaxial cables for 75 Ohm wiring, e.g. 2YCCY 0.4/2.6.
The attenuation of the cable link between the Abis interface and the network termination
(NTPM / CSU or microwave) must not exceed 6dB (at 1 MHz), effecting the maximum
cable length, which can go up to 100 m / 110 yd. or more, depending on the used cable
type.
The PCM cable must be dismantled and the blank screen has to contact the stress
relieving bracket above the cable inlet.
The screen wire must be connected to the relevant ground pin and the uplink and
downlink wires should be routed between the bracket and the terminals on the shortest
way.
g NOTE
The outer diameter of the PCM cables must not exceed 8 mm respectively 1/3.
Use braided shield cable types only.
2.8.3.1 Abis-interface for 100 / 120 Ohm cables

2.8.3.2 Abis-interface for 75 Ohm cables
The Abis interface and the external clock synchronization interface to the peripheral are
provided by nine 1,0/2,3 coaxial connectors at the OVPTCOAX / ABISCONCX.
For the PCM cabling with 75 Ohm impedance use coaxial cable e.g. 2YCCY 0.4/2.6.
The coaxial cables will be prepared as follows:
Measure the distance between the network termination and the Abis interface.
Cut the cable into the required length and fit it through the cable inlet.
Cut back the common outer insulation approx. 150-200 mm / 6...8.
Fix an SMA-female connector for each PCM-up and down line at the end to be con-
nected to the OVPTCOAX / ABISCONCX.
Connect the prepared cables at the matching connectors.
Use a torque spanner for SMA connectors 35 N/cm (0.25 ft lb).

2.8.9 Antenna connections
The BS-82 II eMicro has to be connected to the TX/RX antennas. The antenna config-
uration and the required cabling are dependent on the site.
Single cell: One BS-82 II eMicro on site is serving one cell
Multi cell: One BS-82 II eMicro on site is serving up to 2 cells or if extension shelters are
installed up to 6 cells (2 cells per shelter)
For detailed information refer to the site-specific documentation or use the correspond-
ing customer documents.
For installation and service purposes it is useful to know, which hardware is connected
to which cell. The numbering, seen from the top of the antenna pole, starts at an azimuth
angle of 0 (north) and rotates clockwise.
The first existing cell whose beam centre line lies at 0 or more, is defined as cell 0 or
sector 0. The next one following in the same direction cell is cell 1 etc.
In case of omni cell the cell no. is 0.
Figure 57 Cell numbering (top view from the antenna pole)
Jumper cables with a max. diameter of 1/2 have to be used to connect the antenna
feeder cables with the female front connectors of the combining modules inside the
shelter (first design) or the antenna connectors at the bottom of the shelter (second
design). With regard to overvoltage protection it is recommended to ground the outer
conductor of antenna feeder cables where they are connected with the jumper cables
outside the BS-82 II eMicro.

2.8.10.2 Installation of the STMAx / DTMAx
The Single Tower Mounted Amplifiers (STMAx) and the Dual Tower Mounted Amplifiers
(DTMAx) are the RF units that provide the means to feed the downlink signal to one
TX/RX antenna and to amplify, with low noise figure, the uplink signal coming from the
same TX/RX antenna.
The DTMAx / STMAx should be placed as close to the antenna as possible.
It will be supplied and supervised by the multicoupling equipment in the rack it is con-
nected to.
Various versions for different frequency bands of the DTMA and DTMARET are avail-
able.
Figure 68 Example of STMAx and DTMAx
Figure 69 Rear side of STMAx and DTMAx (example)
g NOTE
It is recommended to mount the DTMAx and the STMAx at pole or wall in a vertical
position, so that the ground screw of the units is pointing downwards.
In certain cases is the mounting in a horizontal position (e.g., on cable runways) pos-
sible, it depends on the environmental conditions.
The DTMAx and the STMAx provides 7/16 female connectors for the connection with
the BTSE (lettered COM) and the antenna (lettered ANT).
Each DTMAx / STMAx shall be grounded to the pole, therefore a grounding wire has to
be prepared for each device on site.

2.8.11 Installation of the battery system (AC supplied cabinet only)
The battery back-up system supplies the BTSE in case of AC power failure or that the
AC/DC converter module has failed.
The batteries are charged by the AC/DC system during normal operation. To avoid
excessive battery discharge the AC/DC controller disconnects the batteries from the
load at a predefined voltage of -40VDC (0.5V).
The BS-82 II eMicro will be delivered including a set of batteries (BATTPACKM-2V3 or
BATTPACKM-2V4) and the appropriate battery tray, for fixing of the batteries inside the
shelter.
To reduce the weight during the installation works, it is useful to take out the battery set.
Further the removal of the battery set is needed, if transmission equipment should be
placed inside the shelter.
Remove the batteries as follows:
Open both doors of the shelter.
Switch OFF battery breaker BR04 at the DC panel.
Disconnect the blue / black wire pair (DC wires) and the tempresistor wires as shown

The extension shelters are equipped with modules identical to those in the base shelter,
excepted the core module (COBA).
To install the extension shelters, proceed in the same way as described in the section
before.
The pre-fabricated connection kit MK:ISB/E82 will be used for connections between
base shelter and extension shelter, the distance between the fitting holes at the bottom
of the shelter must not exceed 1.75 m / 510 in case of side-by-side mounting and 1,46
m / 410 if the shelter are mounted back-to-back.
g Note
The base shelter and the extension shelters have to be mounted at a pole or wall in
the same height.
2.9.1 Setup of the connection kit MK:ISB/E82
The connection kit MK:ISB/E82 consists of a flexible metal tube with the CC-link cable
and the CAN-Bus cable inside.
The flexible tube has a inner metal shield (EMI protection) and an outer sheeting
(IP protection). Both ends are equipped with a screw cap for fixation at the fitting holes
at the bottom of the shelters.

Pay attention to the following hints:
After removal of a module check the proper condition of the code key plugs on the
backplane.
Before a module will be plugged-in check the correct setting of the code key number,
this is to prevent damages at the backplane connectors (see Tab.2.9).
Insert the modules without pressure.
2.11 Terminators
It is necessary to terminate all unused RF-connectors of the RF-modules with 50 Ohm
load resistors. The following resistors are used:
C39195-Z80-C30 for SMA connectors
C39195-Z80-C31 for SMC connectors
Fix the terminators at SMA connectors with a torque wrench set 1,00 Nm and at SMC
connectors with a torque wrench set 0.35 Nm.
Later removal of terminators must done with extreme care, to avoid damages at the
RF front connectors of the modules.
g NOTE
