Enclosed is the parish financial report and stewardship report of services ending our fiscal year of June 30 2011. We are please to report operations are in the black and we are current on all bills and debt. Our stewardship appeal is in November with a goal of a 5% increase in support. Prayerfully consider if it would be possible to provide additional support at this time with increased weekly offerings or an additional special offering such as a stock donation. Consider if using our automatic electronic donation offering would work for you. Information on stewardship can be found on the CTK website. www.ctklombard.org Please let us offer a word of gratitude and thanks for the generous support of those who continue to contribute to our parish. Your financial contributions, and the time and talent that so many of you share with our parish community, are greatly appreciated. Please spread the word of your church to your neighbors and friends, new parishioners are always welcome at Christ the King. Again, thank you. Christ the King Finance Committee We continue to be committed to operating in a fiscally prudent manner while serving the needs of our parishioners. Focus is on meeting our necessary expenses, providing education services, maintenance of the properties, as well as providing opportunities for parishioners to assist the less fortunate. Our mortgage debt is $1,256,246. It would be our desire to pay this down on an accelerated schedule while also building a reserve fund for major repairs. Rick Cosenza, Lori Bhardwaj, Brian Carnahan, Elaine Ward Please let us know if you would be interested in serving on the finance council. If you have any questions regarding this report or CTK finances, email finance@ctklombard.org or call the parish at 630-629-1717.

Q: Why do we interrupt Mass with announcements? Wouldn't it be better to make them before Mass begins? A: The placement of announcements during the Liturgy has been the subject of a great deal of discussion. There are reasons that they are best put at the end of Mass before the dismissal. The Communion Rite ends with the Prayer after Communion prayed by the presider at the chair. What follows is really all part of the Rite of Sending. "We can't stay here-we have work to do," and so the announcements bring us back to the concrete tasks of building the kingdom. We are then blessed for the task and dismissed as a community by the priest and deacon. AA Meeting at Sacred Heart Church The AA meetings are held on Thursday evenings at 8:30 p.m. in the Lower Hall. For Al-Anon and Ala Teen, call 630-627-4441.

Year of the Eucharist 2010-2011 Why We Pray for the Dead: All Souls Day
We say prayers, not only for those whom we knew and loved, but also for the "poor souls". Explain to your children about praying for the "poor souls" who may have no one else -- no families, no children or grand-children -- to pray for them. This is an act of charity that we can perform for them. Be sure to mention that that respect for the dead is part of respect for all human life which comes from God. Our heavenly Father gave us life, and we are all infinitely precious to Him, and he wants us all to be with him in heaven forever. We can see, then, how a denial of death, or a refusal to accept pain, sorrow, and suffering as part of life, is really a denial of the value of life and love. The Catechism of the Catholic Church secton on Purgatory (1030-1032) explains that "All who die in God's grace and friendship, but still imperfectly purified, are indeed assured of their eternal salvation; but after death they undergo purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven" (1030). The Catechism states that "From the beginning the Church has honored the memory of the dead and offered prayers in suffrage for them, above all the Eucharistic sacrifice... The Church also commends almsgiving, indulgences, and works of penance undertaken on behalf of the dead" (1032). The feast of All Souls is a reminder to pray for the "faithful departed". Although they are members of the Communion of Saints, have been saved and will one day be in heaven, they need to be perfected before they can go to Heaven, that is, to come into full unity with the perfection that is God. Family activities One of the best ways to teach children how we respect the dead is to visit a cemetery. You might be surprised that this can be a very pleasant family outing during the fall, when all creation seems to be preparing to end the active life of this season on earth, in order to prepare for life in the next. Ideally, you could visit the graves of your own family members. This would be a good time to tell children family stories about their great-grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins -- to remember their lives, and especially how their Christian witness has influenced your own life, and your children's, as well. Instead of the ordinary bed-time routine, dig out some family albums and look at them with your children. This usually inspires some good family stories you might forget to tell them otherwise. Don't forget to add prayers for deceased relatives in the regular bed-time prayers. And then together say a prayer for them, like: Heavenly Father, You sent Christ Jesus your Son to wash away the sins of all mankind through His perfect sacrifice, and you cleansed our departed brothers and sisters in the waters of baptism. May His perfect sacrifice free them from the power of death and give them eternal life. In your mercy, O Lord, grant them eternal rest, and may perpetual light shine on them forever. + Amen. Eternal Rest Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.

HALLOWEEN
Have you noticed that much more seems to be made of Halloween these days? Elaborate outdoor decorations on houses seem almost to rival Christmas. We can be happy that so much attention is given to this night. It is one of the few Christian vigils to survive. Certainly there are many trappings of the day that derive from pagan customs, but at its root the Eve of All Hallows, with its ghosts and skeletons and cemetery symbols, points to the heavenly Jerusalem which is our destiny along with all the saints of God. Remember, October 31st , Halloween, is the Vigil of November 1st, the Feast of All Saints.
Hello everyone! October brings us to a very busy time of year. It is a time, however, to take time to appreciate all the wonder of Gods creative goodness. From the frost on the windows early in the morning, to the color soaked trees against a blue sky, Gods awesome power is in plain site. We often overlook these things when we get so busy that we forget to take the time to listen to the whisper of the Holy Spirit in all the wonders of nature around us. I encourage you to take some time to be still in the midst of chaos just to breathe in God. Our Catechists have been very busy too. Their lesson plans have been awesome! I walk by the classrooms and witness wonderful learning opportunities. I just wanted to highlight some of the good stuff happening in our RE classes now. Our third grade Catechists, Matt and Sandie Novak, have their group acting out the Gospels or scenarios which help the students understand the lesson by using three main learning styles-Visual (they can see the Gospel in action), Auditory (they hear the story at their level) and Kinesthetic (hands on movement of the acting). Our Sixth grade sessions are playing a trivia game. Kim Krause, Mary Klasen, Jim Lofendo, and Diana Czernek along with the students come up with a question of the week that the other class needs to answer and reciprocate with a question of their own. The question have been tough! Our 8th grade students are preparing for Confirmation by working on their Saint Reports. Sundays class will even have creative presentations for the 7th grade class to watch! Awesome Job Ladies and Gentlemen!!
Saints
All of us are called to be holy. In some way each of us are called to live out the paschal mystery by our sometimes very ordinary lives. The feast we celebrate on All Saints Day remembers not just the saints who have been canonized by the church but the just of every race and nation: all those who reign in the glory of the kingdom of heaven. It is a day to remember in faith the promise made by God to our parents and grandparents and to all who have gone before us. For many of us, it is largely through their prayer and example that we live the life of faith today. The long list of those saints have common last names like Smith and Jones, names like ours. Perhaps the reminder is simply this: we too belong to the family of God, the family of the saints. Copyright 2010 Resource
