Did not Graduate I chose to list this uni course that I didnt finish, as I thought it would be useful to demonstrate the extra stuff it taught me. However most people who interviewed me questioned me on why I didnt finish it, so maybe

This course gave me exposure to topics and technologies that the B.IT alone would not have, such as: XHTML & CSS coding best practises (Web standards/semantic coding) Web design Usability Photoshop Flash & ActionScript

A common mistake job newbies make is underselling themselves. If you dont have much formal work experience, be sure to list any informal activities that you can possibly use to promote yourself, under sections like Personal Projects, Community Involvement etc. Have you made your dad a few websites using the bestpractise web development theory youve been studying? Did you captain the high school debating team, thus demonstrating your communication, leadership and team-building skills? Etc.

PERSONAL PROJECTS

I have previously designed and constructed a number of personal websites, and a professional website for a relatives small business. These projects gave me experience with XHTML, CSS, Photoshop and PHP.
Ideally any Recreational Activities section you write should be used to sell yourself, provide evidence of skills etc. I chose to fill it with light-hearted but ultimately irrelevant (to a tech employer) guff about myself. It didnt Music seem to do me any harm though; everyone who interviewed me asked me My greatest love in life (apart from software development!) what kind of music I was into :-)

RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES

Have played guitar for six years, learnt piano for several years during school and still play for fun on occasion. Played bass guitar in a band as part of an amateur production of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas put on by the Localville Theatre Group. Ive also been involved in informal jams with musician friends and very much enjoy a good live band.

The names and contact details of a couple of people (generally current or former senior colleagues) who your potential employer can call to verify that what youve said is true. If youve never been employed before, use the university lecturer who supervised your final year project or someone like that (basically someone with some authority who will say nice things about you). Make sure you ask them if they will agree to be a referee for you, and make sure you ask them if they will say nice things about you! There is no point using someone as a reference if they are just going to bag you out.
