-having regard to its previous resolutions and in particular of 15 November 2007 on serious events that undermine the existence

of Christian and other religious communities, -taking into consideration the UN Declaration of 1981 on the Elimination of All Forms of Intolerance and life crises based on religion and faith, -taking account of Europe, which like other parts of the world, is not free of cases of violation of this freedom and that there are individual crimes against members of minorities based on their beliefs, -taking into consideration that the Egyptian Constitution guarantees freedom of belief and freedom to practice religious rituals, -whereas, in accordance with international human rights law and Article 18 of International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, in particular, every perso n has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion that this right includes freedom to change religion or belief and freedom to manifest religion or a belief individually or collectively, publicly or privately, in worship, practi ce religious tion functions, ceremonies and teaching, -taking into consideration that the promotion of democracy and respect for human rights and civil liberties is a fundamental principle and objective of the European Union a nd constitute common ground for relations with third world countries ................................................................................ ................................................................................ ......................................................................... +Stresses that the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion is a fun damental human right which is guaranteed by international legal acts and strongly condemn s any kind of violence, discrimination and intolerance based on religion and belief, against believers, people that have changed religion and non-believers, +Expresses concern about recent attacks against Coptic Christians in Egypt and solidarity with the victims' families and calls on the Egyptian Government to en sure the personal security and integrity of Coptic Christians and members of other religious minor ities in the country +Supports all initiatives aimed at promoting dialogue and mutual respect among c ommunities invites all religious authorities to promote tolerance and to take initiatives against hatred , violent and extremist radicalization +Calls upon the Egyptian government to guarantee that Coptic Christians and memb ers of other religious communities and minorities enjoy full human rights and fu ndamental freedoms, including the right to choose and change their religion freely, and prevent any discrimination against them, +Considering that the intercommunal dialogue is crucial to promoting peace and understanding between peoples, +Welcomes the efforts made by the Egyptian authorities to identify the perpetrat ors of

the attack on 6 January 2010 and calls on Egyptian Government to ensure that all those responsible for this assault and other violent acts against Coptic Christians ,other religious o r other minorities will be brought to justice and proper trial.
