Quick Start Guide


This guide is intended to get you started with the installation of IBM Mashup Center.

Product overview
IBM Mashup Center is a lightweight mashup environment for rapidly assembling Internet and enterprise content into simple, flexible, and dynamic Web applications. With IBM Mashup Center, you can easily create web applications, feeds, feed mashups, pages, and widgets. You can store these mashup components in the catalog so that you can reuse the components or share the components with other users.

Step 1: Access your software


This product offering includes: v An installation utility v IBM Lotus Mashups Enterprise Edition Version 1.0 v IBM InfoSphere MashupHub Enterprise Edition Version 1.0 v An embedded, complete version of IBM WebSphere Application Server, Version 6.1.0.13

Step 2: Evaluate your hardware and system configuration


Operating Systems v Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition with Service Pack 1 (32bit) v Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition with Service Pack 2 Supported browsers v Mozilla Firefox 2 v Internet Explorer 7 or higher v Safari 3.1 (on Mac OS only) Note: If you use Mozilla Firefox, install the Long Titles add-on from the Mozilla Web site, so that you can view all of the text in the tooltips. Application Server The requirements for the Windows WebSphere Application Server (32bit) are: v A processor, such as Intel Pentium (500 MHz or faster), Intel EM64T, or AMD Opteron v A minimum of 512 MB physical memory; 1 GB is recommended v A CD-ROM drive For more information on configuring and administering a WebSphere Application Server, see the WebSphere Application Server, Version 6.1 Information Center. Space Requirements For the installation and temporary space that is used for installing IBM Mashup Center, you will need approximately 1.5 GB of space.

Catalog
A common repository for sharing and discovering widgets, feeds, mashups, and pages. Contains community features.

An environment used to create widgets.

InfoSphere MashupHub
An environment to unlock and share Web, enterprise, departmental, and personal information for Web2.0 applications. Use to create feeds and feed mashups.

Step 4: Install IBM Mashup Center


You can install IBM Mashup Center on a single computer or on a server. To install IBM Mashup Center: v Use Passport Advantage to download IBM Mashup Center. v Insert the CD and the installation launchpad starts. A wizard will guide you through the installation steps.

Step 5: Access the documentation


When the installation is complete, you can access the product documentation in several places. The IBM Mashup Center wiki contains information about using IBM Mashup Center, IBM Lotus Mashups, and IBM InfoSphere MashupHub. Additionally, the MashupHub help pages within the product user interface contain important information on how to use the product and links to tutorials and examples. The MashupHub product documentation is also located on the product CD in this directory path: <Mashup Center Installation directory>\Hub\installedApps\Mashup Hub.ear\mashup-enterprise.war\client\doc\userdoc\.

Step 6: Configure IBM Mashup Center


After you install IBM Mashup Center, the Administrator must add new users and groups to a user registry. You have two options: v Configure an external user registry on an LDAP server to hold user and group information. See the instructions for using specific directory servers as the LDAP server. v Use the user registry that is built-in to the WebSphere Application Server that comes with IBM Mashup Center to hold user and group information. See the instructions for using federated repositories. There are optional configuration steps for Lotus Mashups and InfoSphere MashupHub. For more information, refer to the Administrator information for each product. For Lotus Mashups, the Administrator information is on the IBM Mashup Center wiki. For InforSphere MashupHub, the Administrator information is in the IBM InfoSphere MashupHub User and Administrator Guide.
