CALLS OF DEFENSIVE FRONT

l t is imperative that offensive linemen learn and call the multiple alignments used by defenses because our blocking schemes and rules will be predicated on blocking defensive fronts. A s we learn our blocking schemes and apply them to each front, we will eventually evolve to'categorizing our plays with defensive fronts. This will enable u s to make it easier to remember blocking assignments. We must eliminate mental mistakes by KNOWING YOUR ASSIGNMENT.

.-

>

IMPORTANCE OF DEFENSIVE RECOGNITION

ITo establish the alignment of the defender to be blocked. . 2. To assist in making blocking mles applicable and consistent 3.To alert offside linemen pulling playside, to know the location of the
.- .

defender, prior to the ball being snapped. 4-70 initiate a good habit of obtaining a pre-snap read. 5. To recognize alignment from a possible adjustment where the defense is trying to gain an advantage with a stunt or slant. 6. To develop good communication, to improve execution, and mental mistakes. 7. To allow the quarterback to know front alignment and technique alignment of defensive Iinemen.

COMMUNICATING THE CALL

When the defensive front declares their assignment, the call will be made loud enough for the opposite side tackle to hear. The tight end side or the wide side will be recognized a s the dominate side of the defense.

PROCEDURE
IThe right guard and tackle will make a technique alignment call, if they . are covered by a defensive linemen. 2 The left guard and tackle will make a technique call, if they are covered by .

a defensive linemen. . ' 3. The center will call out either odd or even fronts. He will also make a recognition call of a middle linebacker. 4. The tight en.ds will make a.6-7-9- technique call on all plays. .
