BTS Alarms and Troubleshooting Definition In a network, the Maintenance System has a significant role in maintaining correct network

operation and ensuring that all network elements function correctly. The maintenance system generates a notification in case there is some: Fault Misbehaved activity Some abnormal situation during the operation of any network element This notification is called an ALARM. Types of alarms The alarms arriving in the Network can be divided into various classes depending upon the criterion chosen.

Based on Network Architecture the alarms are divided into three categories:

Network Architecture i. Base Station Subsystem Alarms

Alarms related to the radio access part of the Network come under this category.

These include alarms on BTS, Cells within BTS, transmission alarms (between BSC and BTS or between BTSs themselves), BSC alarms, TCSM alarms and external alarms on all these elements. Examples:

Equipment failure(BSC/BTS) Equipment failure(BSC/BTS) Configuration Problem in MSC. Configuration Problem in SGSN. Wrong RF parameters.

Alarm in BTS What is it? Any alarm which is generated from functional unit of BSC caused by BTS Network Elements is called a BTS alarm
