Restoring Our Legacy

Forgive Us!
From Pastor Paul Gordon Canopy Music Ministries
Date 3rd December 2011

As I stood upon the brink of my music career and ministry, as a youth in the New Testament Church of God (Lee District back in the early seventies), along with many other young gospel musicians, singers and artists of all kinds, we all gripped the hope of a great musical future for our self. We had heavens stars in our eyes, gleaming with creative possibilities. Our hearts racing, we allowed that rhythm to set the pace for our music, our enthusiasm and our service to God. As we looked up, No! the sky was not the limit. The only limit we had was our faith, our imagination and the instruments we had in our hands (that had taken us 6 months to pay off, week by week, from our local music store).

Our churches were bursting with talent and unity. This was not just happening in one local church, oh no, it was national. We were the creator of this movement and we were the ones right in the middle of it creating the song and the dance and our anthem was we are well able to possess the land and go beyond new horizons. It was our destiny! Our call! Our future! We were the pioneers, we were the ones that was painting the colours of our sun rise The sun is now setting on that era and a new day is dawning upon gospel music in the UK. We of the old day have become worn out and tired. We have run out of both colour and paint and the picture we should have left for the 'new day' is unfinished. The image we should have left is not clear. Out of focus, it leaves no defining chart to pump our fresh blood into the arteries of our future. Blinded by pride, ambition and disunity we have, like a drunken swords man, cut the vain needed that feed life to our next generation. Like an absent father, we have pursued other things except the things that really matter our children!

We, who remain from this carnage, bow our knees and clasp our hands in repentance and ask your forgiveness for the work undone. Forgive us for our future never won. Forgive us for not leaving a pattern to build with and the wasted opportunities to take you in our hands and show you how to climb the mountain. Like a bird in a tree that we beacon to, you do not come but fly away because you do not know us. Forgive us! It is now time to look through a new windowpane and live a new day. A day for both fathers and sons. Youth and experience. Pain and potential. We have learned from our mistakes, but you too must listen to the siren of experience. Listen - not live those mistakes again. The old-day cannot allow such an image to be painted once again. Therefore, we who have seen the promise and still remain say, come! Hold our hand. Let us provide the tattered and well-used charts of pain so that you do not waste the fuel of your potential on dead-end pipe dreams that bring no true or lasting gain. We will show you how to navigate and reach the borders we have missed, borders we are still all drawn towards

Gospel music is about gospel life. We are given the stewardship to serve our gifting. Have the abused now become the abusers? I know the old way and our old leadership may have let you down. But now the call from heaven comes once again to Restore the sons back to the fathers. We the fathers in gospel music and in the faith speaks to you the new-day right now to make it known that we the fathers stand in our place and re-commit to guard, guide and protect you. Help you, bless you and cloak around you. We commit to guide your hands and teach your fingers the skill to paint the future so it is finally distinct and clear for all to see. Gospel fathers have arise from the grave of sleep and our voices will be relevant, loud and clear ...We all are a holy generation and royal priesthood set aside for the masters use to show forth His glory... I call to both the fathers and the sons, gospel legends and the up-and-coming to come back home and let the healing across the division begin
