Figure 1 Manual Luxel V-6e Configuration A manual Luxel V-6e configuration, shown in Figure 1 on Page 2, provides a platen and status panel for plate loading and collection. These machines are a basic V-6 that can be upgraded on-site to any of the full V-6 configurations.
PLATEN
Figure 2 on Page 2 shows the manual Luxel V-6 configuration with a PC running the RIP and PCI applications. On this system plates are manually loaded on to a platen and manually collected
from the engine output. CAUTION: The power distribution outlets for the PC and engine are decided at the time of installation and should not be disturbed.

AUTOLOADER
Figure 4 on Page 3 shows a typical fully-automatic Luxel V-6 configuration with a PC running the RIP and PCI applications. On this system plates are loaded by hand into a cassette which is installed into an autoloader which feeds plates automatically as jobs are downloaded. Imaged plates are then collected from an online processor, usually by a stacker.
CAUTION: The power distribution outlets for the PC and engine are decided at the time of installation and should not be disturbed.
Figure 5 on Page 4 shows a fully-automatic Luxel V-6 configuration with an optional Manual Loading Slot. On this system plates can be loaded by hand into a manual loading slot as well as a cassette. This machine is fitted with an MMI as standard.
CAUTION: The power distribution outlets for the PC and engine are decided at the time of installation and should not be disturbed.

MMI LOCKED
PCI LOCKED
Control of the platesetter output and media selection is from the PC Interface (PCI) Dashboard, or an optional Man Machine Interface (MMI) fitted on the engine. If your engine is fitted with the MMI option, you will not be able to select: PCI options when the MMI is in PAUSE mode. MMI options when the PCI is in PAUSE mode. This means that: If a Locked Interface icon appears on the PCI you can only operate the platesetter from the MMI. If a Locked Interface icon appears on the MMI you can only operate the platesetter from the PCI. To switch off the MMI lock, select RUN mode on the MMI. If an MMI is not fitted, you can use the Status Panel on the engine. Your PCI Users Guide describes how to use this panel.
STATUS PANEL
EXHAUST
This unit switches on just before imaging to provide vacuum that holds the plate firmly to the drum surface, and then switches off to release the plate for output.
NOTE: The location of the pump is always under the processor with the exhaust end as far away from the PAT as possble.
PUSH GUIDES
PLATEN
The front of the engine has a platen used for loading plates. Notice the location of the centering guides (for horizontal centering) and push guides (for vertical lifting). These guides always open to their correct positions ready for each plate to be loaded for the next job in the RIP queue.
Single-Cassette Autoloader: Cassettes are loaded in a safelight room with up to 120 plates, depending on the plate thickness. Each cassette has an ID number from 1 to 5 that the system detects as soon as the integrated cassette and trolley is docked in the autoloader. Multi-Cassette Autofeeder: Cassettes are loaded in a safelight room with up to 150 plates, depending on the plate thickness. Each cassette has an ID number from 1 to 7 that the system detects as soon as the cassette is docked in the autofeeder. NOTE: Before plates are loaded into the cassette and imaged they need to be acclimatised to platesetter room conditions for at least 24 hours.
1.2.6 Stacker
The stacker is located at the output of the processor to automatically collect plates as they are processed. This unit is controlled by its own sensor that detects the exit of each plate from the processor.
1. Switch on the processor: see Section Switch On the Processor on page 1-11. 2. Switch on the PAT: see Section Switch On the PAT on page 111. 3. Switch on the PC and launch the V-6 RIP server: see Section Switch On the PC on page 1-12. 4. Switch on the engine: see Section Switch On the Engine on page 1-12. 5. Start the PCI application: see Section Launch the PCI on page 113. 6. Start the RIP application (see the RIP Operators Manual and the
documentation supplied with the PC).
For full instructions on the correct way to switch on your processor refer the manufacturers documentation.
NOTE: The PAT is only powered OFF when the filters are replaced.
The message shows that the server is either Online or a Device not Attached. You can return the engine to Online by switching on the engine or, for a more complex failure, checking the FireWire cable connection to the engine.
NOTE: Some systems are fitted with an optional transformer. If the engine fails to switch on, check the circuit breaker on the transformer and reset, if necessary.
SYSTEM
PROCESSOR READY
SYSTEM ICON: This icon shows as a Wait Timer while the system functions initialise.
PROCESSOR NOT READY: The processor is currently not ready to receive imaged plates. This remains in grey if the processor is taking extra time to respond, possibly because of a problem with chemicals or pre-heat temperature. Check the processor LCD to determine the cause and ensure the unit is ready before continuing.

NOTE: You can still download images while you are in PAUSE mode.
UNITS OF MEASUREMENT: Select Imperial units in inches (in) or Metric units in millimetres (mm) for the plate sizes.
PROCESSOR COMMS ENABLED/DISABLED: Select ENABLED to set the interface link between the processor and the engine. In this mode, a plate automatically passes to the processor when it is ready to accept another plate. If the link is disabled then the processor pre-heat setting for a new plate thickness has to be set manually. AUTOLOAD ENABLED/DISABLED: (Manual-loading) Select ENABLED to automatically load the plate, after a three second delay, once it is positioned on the platen. HOLD OR ABORT FOR MEDIA: (Multi-Cassette Autoloader) Select this preference to determine how you want to expose jobs targetted at media that has run out unexpectedly. Hold Job: Select this option to hold the image on the engine queue and wait for media to be reloaded. This will prevent you downloading further jobs to the engine. Abort Job: Select this option to abort the image from the engine queue so that other images can be downloaded. Aborted jobs will remain on the RIP queue for you to retry and expose when media becomes available.
The system is calibrated during the site installation for correct exposure for the plate types that you will be using. It can, however, be periodically recalibrated. See the PCI Users Guide for more information.
In addition, you can use the media options to: create, edit and delete a media name: media names are selected for any one of the available cassettes used to output a job. create, edit and delete a media type: media types are recognised by the RIP and used to set up the print characterisation. In this section, you will only need to create a new media name for your typical production job. Initially, the PCI shows a set of predefined media names and types which have been factory loaded. For more details on how to use media create and edit options, see the PCI Operators Guide. A media list can have up to 32 different media names selectable from the RIP, PCI or MMI. From this list you can choose a media for each cassette depending on your configuration: Fully-Automatic: these cassettes (with trolleys) are physical containers which hold a media pack matching a selected media name. Your machine may have 1 cassette as standard and up to 4 other cassettes as options. Multi-Cassette Autoloader: these cassettes are physical containers which hold a media pack matching a selected media name. Your machine will have 2 cassettes as standard and up to 5 other cassettes as options. Manual and Semi-Automatic: these cassettes are PCI, MMI and RIP software containers which hold a selected media name matching the plate to be loaded on the platen. NOTE: Once the media list is full you will have to delete a name to make space for a new name. To create a new media name proceed as follows:
