Rimsky-Korsakov was born at Tikhvin, in 1844, east of St. Petersburg, into an aristocratic family. He showed
musical ability from an early age. His parents did not appreciate his precocity, looking upon his music-making
"as a prank. “The Flight of the Bumblebee” from the “The Tale of Tsar Saltan Opera”, is about a prince who
turns himself into a bee and stings his wicked aunts.
In 1871, Rimsky-Korsakov became Professor of Practical Composition and Instrumentation He died in 1908.

Gioacchino/Antonio/Rossini
Born:/1792-02-29
Birthplace:Pesaro,Italy
Died:1868-11-13 Famous for: William Tell Overture

Gioacchino Antonio Rossini was an Italian musical composer who wrote more than 30 operas as well as
sacred music and chamber music. His best known works include Il barbiere di Siviglia (The Barber of
Seville), and Guillaume Tell (William Tell) (the end of the overture is popularly known for being the theme
song for The Lone Ranger).

Rossini was born into a family of musicians in Pesaro, a small town on the Adriatic coast of Italy. His
father Giuseppe was a horn player and inspector of slaughterhouses, his mother Anna a singer and baker's
daughter. Rossini's parents began his musical training early, and by the age of six he was playing the
triangle in his father's band.

“CARMEN SUITE No. 1” by Georges Bizet from the Opera: “Carmen” (1 hit wonder)

Georges Bizet (1838 - 1875)

Carmen Suite No. 1
Georges Bizet was just three years younger than Saint-Saens; like Saint-Saens he was born and brought up in Paris, and was very talented as a
youngster. He was admitted to the Paris conservatoire before he was 10 years old, and at 17 wrote a Symphony in C which is just as good as anything
Mozart or Mendelssohn produced at that age. His great opera Carmen came out in 1875, and after initial criticism for its realistic low-life subject matter,
soon became one of the world's best loved operas. It is one of music's great tragedies that he died aged only 37, a few months after the premiere of
Carmen: what might he have written had he lived until 60?
The first suite from the opera comprises six sections - a short dramatic Prelude, a lively Aragonaise in triple time, a charming Intermezzo for the flute and
harp, a Seguidille, a march for the Dragoons Les Dragons d'AIcala which features the bassoons prominently, and the famous March of the Toreadors
