Lesson Presentation
Introduction/Motivational Activities/Anticipatory Set: The teacher will begin by showing the students a series of words written on the board (hurricane, lightening, thunder, tornado, tsunami, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions). As a class they will briefly discuss these weather types and what happens during each of them. The teacher will then show students the Prezi presentation she created to show the type of weather she selected. Once students have viewed the Prezi example, the teacher will explain to students that they will be creating their own Prezi Presentation about their chosen type of weather. Detailed Teaching Sequence: (Provide sufficient detail that would enable a substitute to effectively present this lesson. Bulleted statements are preferred) The teacher will first begin by explaining the project in detail to the students. She will inform them that they are allowed to be as creative as they want to be while creating their Prezi Presentation. They just have to remember to include the required information (given on worksheet rubric). The teacher will give a brief overview of how to use Prezi as well as go over the rubric students will be expected to follow when working on this project. Each step will be broken down for students so that is it easy to remember. Students will also be provided with a handout which reinforces the instructions. Students will have the chance to go onto Prezi and play around with the software to help them get a feel for it. The teacher will then go over the appropriate use of the computer once more before they begin their project. Once students are completely aware of what needs to be done, they are free to get started. Guided Practice/Independent Practice/Assessment Activities Students will have the opportunity to begin work on their independent Prezi Presentation. They will be required to write a rough draft or story web listing the information they want to include in their presenation . Once this portion has been checked and OKed by the teacher, the student is able to start working on their project on the computer. The teacher will continuously walk around monitoring students progress and providing assistance when needed. Students are able to use any of the work they have done over the course of this unit to help them add information into this final project. Closure: With about five minutes left in class the teacher will stop students and tell them to save their work. It is at this time the teacher will address any questions regarding this project or the lesson/unit at hand. The teacher will do a brief review of todays lesson and will give a small introduction to the next lesson (tomorrow).
