Media studies- doctor who (sound)

In the clip of doctor who we were listening to the different types of sound used in the scene, I picked up many sounds such as: diegetic and non-diegetic sounds, dialogue from each character, sound effects and incidental music. All these sounds in the scene really make the scene more realistic and more interesting for the audience, without sound the scene wouldnt be as effective and wouldnt really work or be enjoyable for the audience. The diegetic sounds were sounds such as when Marthas arrived and the evil time lord has authority there is a ticking clock that was doing the countdown for the execution of Martha, but because the character Martha was too smart for the evil time lord the end result was she lived at the end of the countdown. Also throughout the scene all most each character in the scene had some form of dialogue from one word to long paragraphs, which added to the effect of the scene especially at the re-birth of the doctor when all the characters started to chant Doctor. You could hear the footsteps of the characters; especially Martha when she is being marched in to see the evil time lord this creates drama and effect in making the scene more intense for the audience. At the end of Marthas story and also the end of the ticking clock when the doctor is re-born and is just about to break out of the cage there is a large amount of wind blowing around the room to create effect, also showing the audience that something is happening. As the tension is building you can hear the breath of the characters breathing heavily especially Martha when she is on hers knees before the time lord when he has the authority. When the doctor is re-born the cage that the doctor is trapped in breaks open there is a large cracking sound and there is magical music that creates effect and to show that the doctor is about to take over and win the fight. Then the doctor gains the power and the evil time lord falls out of authority, the evil time lord shoots laser beams at the doctor to try and harm him or kill him but they bounce off the magical bubble the sound from the laser and the bouncing off the bubble are really pronounced, this is to show the power of the laser and gives effect to the scene. Also as the doctor is rising there are pieces of paper moving about to show the wind and how powerful it is just like the doctor. There was also non-diegetic such as when Martha arrives she is walking in to the scene there is a choir singing and background music, this is to create effect and make the scene more powerful and more entertaining as well. As the tension in the scene builds and Marthas story when she starts talking about what she has been doing there is a guitar playing in the background of the scene and drums slowly start in incorporate in to the scene as well. When the character Martha is having flashbacks there is a sound effect added on to make the flash back more pronounced and more dramatic and effective for the scene. Also in the background of the scene as the doctor is re born and is becoming really powerful the theme song starts to play in the background of the scene. Yasmine Innocenti 12V
