Disassemble Thrust Reverser C-Duct Assembly, Left-Hand (L.H.) - DISASSEMBLY
NOTE: To identify consumable materials refer to Overhaul Material Manual, OMat. C. Special tools CP30459 CP30460/1 or CP30467 or CP30523 Trolley installation 1 off Trolley installation 1 off Frame Installation Trolley, Installation 1 off 1 off
NOTE: Special tools are identified in the text by the tool prime number. 2. General Fig./Item numbers in parentheses in the text correspond to those used in the Illustrated Parts Catalogue (IPC), only prime Fig/Item numbers are used. Reference must be made to the IPC for the Service Bulletin alpha variants. To facilitate the removal of threaded parts, taper bolts, and parts having an interference fit, use an approved OMat 1001 penetrating oil, apply the oil liberally and allow time for penetration before disassembly. SUBTASK 78-31-20-040-001 3. Remove Thrust Reverser Translating Cowl, L.H. A. Disconnect drag links, Fig.78-31-20-990-002 (1) Remove bolt, bushings, spacers, washer, and nut at blocker flap housing and disconnect drag link.

(2) Temporarily secure blocker flaps in stowed position. (3) Temporarily secure drag links to thrust reverser C-duct inner sleeve. B. Disconnect actuators, Fig.78-31-20-990-003 (1) Remove screws and actuator access panels from translating cowl. (2) Release and remove lockwire, bolts and bushings securing hydraulic actuators. (3) Release and remove bolt securing feedback actuator. C. Fit lifting equipment, fig.78-31-20-990-004 (1) Remove blanking screws (6) and pins from cowl CP30459 (installation frame) 1 off attachment points. (2) Fit upper and lower attachment brackets to translating cowl. (3) Position CP30459 installation frame 1 off mounted on CP30460 (installation trolley) 1 off or CP30467 (installation trolley) 1 off or CP30523 (installation trolley) 1 off and fit pins. D. Remove translating cowl (1) Traverse cowl and CP30459 installation frame and installation trolley rearwards to clear C-duct rails. (2) Remove CP30459 installation frame and installation trolley clear of C-duct. NOTE: Information necessary for disassembly, assembly, and cleaning, of translating cowl will be found in 78-31-23. SUBTASK 78-31-20-040-002 4. Remove Thrust Reverser Deflector Box Assemblies, L.H. Fig.78-31-20-990-005 and Fig.78-31-20-990-006 A. Remove bolts, pins, washers, and nuts; remove cascades from thrust reverser. NOTE: Information necessary for cleaning and inspection of deflector box assemblies will be found in 78-31-05. SUBTASK 78-31-20-040-003 5. Remove Thrust Reverser Blocker Flaps, L.H. Fig.78-31-20-990-007

A. Remove bolts, washers, bushings, nuts and pins at blocker flap hinge assemblies and remove blocker flap from C-duct. NOTE: Information necessary for disassembly, assembly, cleaning, and inspection of blocker flaps will be found in 78-31-24. SUBTASK 78-31-20-040-004 6. Remove Thrust Reverser Blocker Flap Drag Links L.H. Fig.78-31-20-990-008 A. Remove pins and washers releasing drag links from drag link brackets. NOTE: Information necessary for cleaning and inspection of blocker flap drag links will be found in 78-31-27. SUBTASK 78-31-20-040-005 7. Remove Thrust Reverser C-duct Opening Mechanism, L.H. Fig.78-31-20-990-009 A. Remove the screws, washers, and nuts that attach the heat shield cover plates to the channels and remove the cover plates. B. Remove the screws, washers, and clamps that attach the hydraulic tube and channels to the C-duct. C. Disconnect the tube from the hose and manifold. Remove the tube, grommet, and channels. D. Remove the union and packing from the manifold and discard the packing. E. Remove the bolts, washers, and nuts that attach the manifold and channel to the Cduct. Remove the manifold and channel. F. Remove the bolt, washer, and nut that attach the actuator lanyard to the C-duct. NOTE: The use of the actuator lanyard is optional. It is possible the lanyard is not installed. G. Remove the bolt, bushing, washer, and nut that attach the actuator to the C-duct. H. Install protective covers on the actuator, hose, and manifold. NOTE: Information necessary for the disassembly, assembly, cleaning, and inspection of the hydraulic opening actuator will be found in 78-31-25. SUBTASK 78-31-20-040-006 8. Remove Thrust Reverser Hydraulic Actuators, Rotary Flex Shafts, Tubing and Manual

Drive, L.H. Fig.78-31-20-990-010 A. Remove screws, washers, and clamps attaching mid to upper and lower to mid actuator tubes, and lower and mid flex shaft tubes to C-duct. B. Disconnect hose from upper actuator and union in upper bulkhead. C. Remove nut, washer, and union from upper bulkhead. CAUTION: MAKE SURE MATING SURFACES OF FLEX SHAFT TUBE AND ACTUATORS ARE NOT DAMAGED BY TOOLS DURING REMOVAL OF FLEX SHAFT. D. Disconnect mid to upper actuator tube and mid flex shaft tube from upper and mid actuators. E. Disconnect lower to mid actuator tube from mid and lower actuators. F. Disconnect lock tube from lower actuator and flex shaft tube. CAUTION: MAKE SURE MATING SURFACES OF FLEX SHAFT TUBE AND ACTUATORS ARE NOT DAMAGED BY TOOLS DURING REMOVAL OF FLEX SHAFT. G. Disconnect lower flex shaft tube from mid and lower actuators. H. Remove closing cap from upper actuator. I. Install protective covers on tubes and actuators. J. Remove bolt, spacer, washers, and nut from lower actuator mount. K. Disconnect locking actuator shaft from actuator lock indicator lever. Remove lockwire, shoulder bolts, bushings, pins, and trunnions attaching upper, mid and lower actuators to C-duct. Simultaneously remove actuators, actuator tubes, and flex shaft tube assemblies, Fig.78-31-20-990-011 NOTE: Information necessary for disassembly, assembly, cleaning, and inspection of hydraulic actuators, rotary flex shafts, and tubes will be found in 78-31-26. L. Remove manual drive, Fig.78-31-20-990-012. (1) Remove screws releasing manual translating cowl drive from C-duct fixed cowl. (2) Loosen tube nut on manual translating cowl drive releasing unit from locking actuator.

Remove nut and tab washer; attaching lower feedback cable assembly to support bracket. D. Remove bolts, washers, and nuts; attaching clamps to outer fairing. E. Remove lower feedback cable assembly from thrust reverser. SUBTASK 78-31-20-040-008 10. Remove Thrust Reverser Feedback Actuator, L.H., Fig.78-31-20-990-014 A. Remove lower actuator access panel. B. Remove bolt attaching aft end of actuator to C-duct. C. Remove screws attaching proximity sensor switch to electrical clamps to actuator. D. Remove cotter pin, bolt, nut, and washer attaching lower feedback cable to actuator. E. Remove safety pins and withdraw pins attaching actuator to gimbal assembly. F. Remove feedback actuator. (3) Unscrew auxiliary latch screw from inner auxiliary latch sleeve. (4) Remove cotter pin releasing pin, washer, and auxiliary latch hook from auxiliary latch screw. K. Remove upper bifurcation bumpers, Fig.78-31-20-990-021. (1) Remove upper bifurcation bumpers and washers from C-duct. SUBTASK 78-31-20-040-010 12. Remove Thrust Reverser Electrical Harness and Attaching Parts, L.H. Fig.78-31-20-990022 and Fig.78-31-20-990-054 A. Remove screws, nuts, and washers releasing split fireseal plates and cable support plates from forward bulkhead of C-duct. See Details G and H. B. Disconnect J5 unlock disconnect between indication loom assembly and lead to proximity sensor switch. C. Remove screws, washers, and nuts releasing indication loom assembly connector from bracket on lower C-duct bulkhead. D. Remove screws, washers, and nuts releasing proximity sensor switches and shims from mounting brackets on lower C-duct bulkhead. E. Starting at bottom of C-duct, remove screws, washers, and nuts releasing clamps and indication loom assemblies from C-duct. NOTE: To facilitate installation of electrical harness, return all attaching parts to original positions. Information necessary for disassembly, assembly, cleaning
and inspection of attaching hardware will be found in 78-36-03. F. Remove screws and nuts releasing indication and control loom assembly connectors from top of C-duct. NOTE: Information necessary for disassembly, assembly, cleaning, testing and inspection of electrical harness will be found in R.R. Electrical Harnesses Component Maintenance Manual 78-36-03. SUBTASK 78-31-20-040-011 13. Pre and S.B.78-8526 Remove Thrust Reverser Lock Indicator, L.H. Fig.78-31-20-990-023 A. S.B.78-8526: Improved 'visual unlock' indicator mechanism B. Remove spring from actuator lock lever and actuator lock indicator. C. Remove bolt, washers, and nut attaching actuator lock indicator to mounting bracket. D. S.B.78-8526: Remove shoulder bushing E. Slide spacer out of actuator lock indicator and through leaf of mounting bracket, releasing actuator lock indicator from mounting bracket. F. Remove screws, washers, and nuts; releasing mounting bracket from shim cemented to C-duct fixed cowl. NOTE: Do not separate shim from C-duct fixed cowl unless shim was damaged during removal of mounting bracket and INSPECTION/CHECK determines that it must be replaced. G. Remove lockwire, bolt, and washer; releasing lock actuator lever from shaft of locking actuator.
