THE PROBLEM OF RISING PRICES
Rising of prices adversely affects the econ-
omy of India. Lakhs of people are working
hard for their both ends. Millions of people
are still living without food and shelter. They
are unable to earn sufficiently. This is all due
to the increase in the prices of commodities.
Essential commodities like rice, wheat, pulses
etc., are not reaching the common man prop-
erly because of the high prices. The prices of
these commodities have doubled since last
five years. Even though the production is mo
re govt. is unable to control the prices. Proport
ional increase of wages are not there. Incre
asing of prices has become a common factor.
The price of a product depend upon its pro
duction, consumption & demand. Production
costs are increasing due to natural calamities,
electrical failure, enhancement of taxes,
strikes, hike in the transportation. If the pro-
duction is less, the goods will cost more and
black marketing will take place. Prices of the
commodities are fixed on the basis of raw-mat
erials, production cost, taxes, demands and
consumption etc.,
There are two types of goods. They are
essential goods and luxury goods. Even the
prices of these essential commodities are not
being controlled by the government. Our adm
inistration is completely polluted with corrup-
tion. Our export and import policies are also
not up to the standards. India, the seventh big
gest country in the world, having a population
of more than 100 crores has not attained self-
sufficiency in all fields so far. Distribution sys
tem through fair price shops is not fair.
Government should take stringent measures
to curb corruption, black marketing and smu
ggling. All these factors, whether directly or
indirectly effect the prices. The mfgrs., indus-
trialists & whole salers are completely, ignor-
ing the interests of the nation. They wanted to
become rich over night. They have no soft
corner towards the poor.
STUDENTS AND POLITICS
Since the days of Britishers students have
been advised by their teachers and parents not
to take part in politics. They knew that it is the
young who can revolt against them. In olden
days student who participated in the freedom
movement were expelled from school and
colleges. Thus politics was out of bounds for
students. It was not justified to say that stu-
dents should not take part in politics. Personal
interests are to be sacrificed for national inter-
ests. After Independence opportunism and
corruption entered the nation. Now-a-days pol
itics was based not on the nation but on an
opportunism.
As a result intelligent students are becom-
ing scapegoats under this politics. Ruffians
guide politics everywhere. Schools and col-
leges have not been left alone. This unscrupu-
lous young men called reffians who control
politics is not more than one percent of the
population. They guide or misguide the des-
tiny of the nation. It is only the idealistic
young men who sacrifice for the national
cause.
It is the student who have to reap the fruits
- sweet or sour - in the days to come. They
must participate in politics and change the
trend. They have to make Politian nation ori-
ented. It is only the young students who can
salvage the democracy of the world.
FOOD PROBLEM IN INDIA
India, the second largest populated country
in the world is facing many problems. Food
problem is one among them. Every human bei
ng needs food, shelter and clothing. India the
seventh biggest country in the world, has abu
ndant of natural resources.
But still we are facing this food problem
even after a lapse of 50 years. India is an agri-
cultural country. Most of the percentage of
people are living in rural areas (70%). Their
main profession is cultivation. Farmers are
depending mainly on rainy water. This pro-
fession has become a lottery. If there are rains,
the farmers will get much yields and vice ver
sa. Infection to crops affects adversely on the
farmer's income. Natural calamities like hea
vy rains or drought also play a havoc in the
life of farmers. They are not being proved
with proper irrigation facilities. Main reason
for our food problem is population in our cou
ntry is increasing alarmingly. Proportional pro
duction is not there. Farmers are favouring
commercial crops. They can earn more profits
with this commercial crops. Literacy is also
one of the main causes for the food problem.
They are not following new methods of culti-
vation.
Our country consists full of many rivers.
We are unable to utilize them. Most of the
water in the rivers flowing into the seas wa
stely. Consutruction of dams across the rivers
help us in many ways, we can store the water
and divert it to the fields.
Fertilizers and pesticides must be used to
protect the crops. Even if the farmers get good
yields, they are not getting proper benefits.
Due to lack of literacy mediators are com-
manding the farmers. Mediatorship unautho-
rized transportation must be resisted.
Implementation of novel methods and fa
mily planning solve the food problem in our
country. Farmers must be educated. Gover
nment should take remedial steps to solve this
food problem.
Problem utilization of
water minimizes this
problem.
