Freshman Composition I-Course Agenda Textbook: Bullock, Goggin, and Weinber.

The Norton Field Guide to Writing: With Readings and Handbook.

Grade Distribution:
1. Journals: (5) 10% Journal topics have been picked for the students before the semester begins based on the classes thematic approach. Journals will be written in class on the last of class for that week. Students will only have the class period to write their journals. Journals must be 4-6 pages written and must be written in standard college-ruled blue books, which can be purchased in the NLC bookstore. 2. Papers: (4) 40% Three papers will be completed throughout the semester, and the fourth paper will be in connection with the final presentation. Paper topics have been picked for the students before the semester begins based on the classes thematic approach. Each paper must range between 3 - 5 pages and must have a minimum of 2 sources on a separate Works Cited page. Papers must also be in MLA formatting. All papers must be handed in as a hard copy in a 3 ring folder and through Blackboard Vistas Turn-It In feature. Papers that are plagiarized, or that are over 40-45% in their originality report, will result in a grade of zero and will not be available for corrections. Students will receive a rubric to help assist in interpreting their overall grade. The four paper modes will be as follows: 1) Description/Evaluation 2) Causes and Effects/Proposal 3) Narration/Reflection 4) Final Presentation: 25% presentation grade; 75% paper grade (papers 1-3 edited) 3. Quizzes: (10) 10% 9 quizzes are in multiple choice formatting and each quiz consists of 10 questions. Quizzes are over sentence structure, word usage, and punctuation and mechanics. The 10th quiz is the attendance grade. For every class missed, ten points will be deducted from the overall grade. For example, if student A misses 3 classes, quiz 10s grade is a 70. If student B misses 6 classes, quiz 10s grade is a 40. Since this is a credit level course, if a student misses more than 2 weeks of classes, they will receive an automatic F as their final grade. 4. Exams: (4) 40% Exams are grouped into three 4-week periods. At the beginning of every 4th week, an exam will take place and will cover all of the material learned from that three week
