SO much more than I expected...

April 26, 2011 I took one bar off the "Features" scale, because there just Performance: isn't any level matching stage. Other than that, review Value: follows: Features: First impressions: Grain. I had heard all of the forums complain of grain. It's true. Lack of focus, poor separation... I was all, like "GRRRRR... What have I done...?" I listened. I didn't write it off right away, everybody said "it all goes away". I sometimes simply attributed it more to "getting used to it" than "going away". I let it just sit and idle for a few hours, (it does run warm at idle) and then I went back to listen again. It got nicer. Using the same Radio Shack speakers I used to listen to the Topping amp on my desk, I wasn't expecting the BEST sound in the world, but by goodness, they sound DARN good! With close to eight times the power on tap, those speakers simply SING! Using all lossless files and Media Monkey on my laptop, streamed over my network, I simply didn't want to stop listening! I built my own power supply. Using an Avel-Lindberg Y236903 (PE #122-700) with the primaries wired in series, secondaries wired in parallel, I arrived at 20VAC at 20A RMS. 400W. Perfect! I was unable to find a closer match; I had to come up with some convenient and readily available solution. Full-wave rectified with a 35A @ 600V bridge (MB356) gives me 28.28VDC, a scosche above what the board states (26VDC) and a scosche below what the datasheet says (30VDC). Going by the datasheet, I figured I'd be perfectly safe. (This might also be where no SMALL portion of the excessive heat was coming from.) 47,000uF (Sprague Compulytic @ 40VDC, -10%/+75%) of filter cap and I was good to go. I powered it up. No hum! (Also an issue somtimes bandied about on the forums) AWESOME! Half the battle. Power supply is everything to these amps! I started with a 12V @ 3A wall-wart, and it was nothing at all to write home about. Damping was poor, frequency response was not even close to what the big guy allows. Do yourselves HUGE favors, and use a REAL power supply on these modules. For my HT system, I think I'll be doubling up on the caps per power supply, and paralleling the DC sides of the twin power supplies. 28VDC @ 40A RMS with 194,000uF of filter cap... So I'll need a second Y236903 transformer... Two of these modules, with a 100X2 board thrown in, and I have the makings of one fantastic Home Theater monolith(ic) speaker system... Hmmm... Maybe a submission to the DIY set? TC1000 woofer (be still my beating heart...) with a pair of great 6" drivers (Tang Band W6-1914S), a nice tweeter thrown in there (think Morel MDT 29), and a Behringer Ultradrive, anybody? 800+WRMS of all-day, real-world, low distorion, Class D, high-efficiency output, (1200 peak watts) with 800W of really nice, fat, high-current power supply? How can anybody POSSIBLY go wrong here...? Would you recommend this product to a friend? Yes Post Comment helpful 0 unhelpful 0 Sure 2x100W @ 4 Ohm TK2050 Class-D Audio Amplifier Board

Excellent product -- so far

April 7, 2011
Part # 320-300

Price: $44.00

I bought this to create a 2.1 system in our master bath. Performance: Todd Margo Only using 3 channels. It works very well, at least so far. Value: It's only been one month. My setup is: Sonos player, one Features: dual tweeter in-ceiling speaker (acts as a single "stereo" Location: Flower Mound, TX speaker) and a Boston Acoustics in-ceiling subwoofer Age: 45-54 (hooked up to the 3rd channel on this amp). I have the electronics and Technical Knowledge: Hobbyist subwoofer concealed in the upper part of the master bath closet area, with the Experience With Product: I own it single stereo in-ceiling speaker in the exposed ceiling area. The sound quality is excellent overall and the only visible part is the one in-ceiling speaker (wifefriendly). Also bought the recommended power supply (don't know if this was overkill). The 4th channel is not being used. I am extremely pleased so far with this product. Will look into buying another for outdoor use in an under-eave installation, since the specs say it can withstand pretty high temperatures (Texas summer heat). Sure evidently makes a higher power model that PE doesn't seem to carry, but I will be looking into that for outdoor use. Would you recommend this product to a friend? Good sound, but build problem

January 28, 2011 This amp sounds good and is a great deal for the money, Value: but my unit had a build problem. When I removed the Performance: heat sink to inspect the circuit, I discovered that one of the Features: four power chips was had no thermal compound, so it was not thermally coupled to the heat sink. Of course, that is easy to fix, but as shipped, it was not assembled properly and I would not have

known it if I hadn't looked "under the hood". That channel probably would have cut out intermittently due to thermal limiting. Post Comment helpful 0 unhelpful 0

excellent mids/highs
January 4, 2011 I got two and throw them in a custom built box and I Value: wired them with two SMP power supplies (PC) in parallel, Performance: providing 24V at 15A - produces one of the best sounding Features: amplifiers I ever heard. With two, it's enough to use in a 7.1 theater setting. That's what I built this for. The Yamaha A/V receiver you see in the picture produce such lifeless and dry sound, I decided this could be the replacement. Take a look at the picture I posted. http://tdood.weebly.com/pictures.html Post Comment

Another amazing product!

December 14, 2010 What's better than 70 ultra clean watts for $48? How about Value: 140W for $52. Ran this bi-amping relatively low efficiency Performance: sealed box 4 ohm home brew speakers (including really Features: good ribbon mid-tweeter from Dayton). Ran slightly warm at row A levels. Very impressive. YES, you can plug it into a car battery or wall wart and still bother the neighbors but sounds cleanest

with recommended power supply. This is more than a nice little project amp. This one has some real oomph, and is sensitive enough (0.5 V nominal for full output) to use with line level preamps. Does not overdrive with higher gain source, however (good up to 2V) though gets mighty loud at mid VC setting. 2 of these would make for really good multi-driver electronic crossover systems, which typically do not need more than 30-35W per driver. Puts really pro level performance at DIY hobbyist level cost. Really impressive. Does run a bit warm at idle, though, unlike its 2 channel relative. Post Comment helpful 3 unhelpful 0

Fun project amp

November 23, 2010 I used one channel this to power a 12" neo guitar speaker Value: Mike - 31401 (also from PE, Eminence Tonker lite). I use an external Performance: Location: New Jersey mod pedal (VOX ToneLabST) for gain and sound. 2 of the Features: Technical Knowledge: Professional other channels will eventually drive small PA speakers, the Experience With Product: I own it last a small sub. It sounds much better than most practice amps, and didn't cost any more, and has enough power to play small gigs. Very light weight. A tip on power supplies. I used a Belkin closeout from PE that I paid about $20 for. It's 19 Volts & 60W or so. It needed a storage cap from my bin (5000 uf or so) to not fold on peaks, but powers the amp very nicely for cheap. It even has a 12V input to run in a car. Almost any throw away laptop supply will work, or quite a few printers use 24 volt supplies, look around, suitable bricks are a throwaway item. The amp and PSU I used run stone cold at least with 1 channel driven. Post Comment helpful 2 unhelpful 1

Lots of watts for little cost.

October 1, 2010 These are great little amps for some speakers. I first tried Value: these out on a pair of 6ohm speakers and the results were Performance: poor. I did power a pair of old Focal 10" 8ohm drivers with Features: great results. Check the ohms of your speakers before buying this you may have problems with 6ohm speakers, but 4ohm and 8ohm speakers are amazing. Great amp for an active 2 way crossover system like the BBE MAX-X2. Post Comment

Very Nice Very Nice!

September 30, 2010 Don't listen to forum sites about this thing needing 24 Value: Randy - 30940 volts and 14 amps, etc. Or people modding these things. If Performance: Location: California you honestly wanted to throw more money than needed at Features: Technical Knowledge: Professional it, you could just go and build a better class amp. For the Experience With Product: I own it value this thing is really cool. I have a crappy sub woofer from 10 years (rca), and I have 4 KLH v-5100 monitor speakers. I bought a cheap dayton center channel speaker and this board from parts-express. I used a 2A 12VDC power adapter and boom, I had 2 of the KLH's, the dayton center and the sub all on one tiny amp. I connected both of the rca with the supplied cable to my computers sound card, then I set it from there to 7.1 sound and only enable the center and subwoofer with the front. 3.1 sound, if I pick up another one, it will be 7.1. 2 of these and two

2A 12vdc adapter will run you at least $130-$150. Really good for the money. You can add a higher power supply, but why even spend that much? I doubt the sound will get that much better. Comment (1) Post Comment helpful 2 unhelpful 2
