From the Editor...


From time to time I receive phone calls or e-mails regarding the contents of this publication. I also hear from readers in person. Some of the feedback is simply from people who love Its a Dogs Life, or Dr. Quack. More often it is feedback from people who feel like they have been enlightened by other content and opinion pieces. The first business day of the new year I received a phone call from an obviously welleducated, thinking man thanking me for the content of the January 2012 issue and requesting that I mail him (to Houston) at his expense a package of copies of that issue. It was very gratifying to hear from this man, and I am sure our paths will cross many times. I also received the next day an illiterate message from a woman who claimed to be a radio broadcaster. I couldnt really understand what she was trying to say because the English syntax and punctuation were so poor, but my conclusion about what she wrote is that we have a number of under-educated people who will vote for Obama in November and who will do anything to get him re-elected. She ended up threatening me as in o no you dont, lady! She insisted that she accidentally sent the message to me, that it was intended to a friend of hers as a joke. Frankly, I find it hard to believe she accidentally typed in my e-mail address. Another conclusion is: Be careful about those accidental e-mails or EWI (E-mailing While Intoxicated). A few days later I received another e-mail message from someone who was quite articulate, praising my January 2012 issue and wanting to meet with me. (No Im not running a dating service.) As usual during this time of year there is not very much going on in the way of events or fun things to do around the lake area, but I hope everyone is taking this time of year to just relax and enjoy friends and family, planning spring gardens and enjoying cool nights and moderate afternoons. I hope everyone is having a happy and prosperous new Year, despite our tyrannical federal govenrment interferance with private enterprise. More About The NDAA and Denial Of The Bill Of Rights.


Our Constitutional rights are being stripped from us day by day and behind our backs mostly in the name of war on terror. The mainstream media finds any excuse to hide from us what is really going on in Washington D.C. They find it more important to report on the Royal Family (take your pick:Queen Elizabeth, et al, or the Obamas, et al) or any number of other criminals, football players, movie stars, reality TV stars and much more inconsequential pablum to entertain the sheeple of America and keep their heads in the sand. In case you haven't heard, H.R. 1540: National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012 or NDAA, is not your typical defense spending bill. It gives authority to the president (or perhaps it would be more fitting to call him king or ruler [or dictator] at this point) to order the military to indefinitely detain U.S. citizens without official charge or trial on the mere suspicion of being a terrorist or linked to a terrorist organization. Heres what Ron Paul has to say about the NDAA: From: http://lewrockwell.com/ ---Editorial--may say, "I'm not a terrorist so I have no reason to worry." However, innocent people are wrongly accused all the time. The Bill of Rights is there precisely because the founders wanted to set a very high bar for the government to overcome in order to deprive an individual of life or liberty. To lower that bar is to endanger everyone. When the bar is low enough to include political enemies, our descent into totalitarianism is virtually assured. The Patriot Act, as bad is its violation of the 4th Amendment, was just one step down the slippery slope. The recently passed National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) continues that slip toward tyranny and, in fact, accelerates it significantly. The main section of concern, Section 1021 of the NDAA Conference Report, does to the 5th Amendment what the PatriotT Act does to the 4th. The 5th Amendment is about much more than the right to remain silent in the face of government questioning. It contains very basic and very critical stipulations about due process of law. The government cannot imprison a person for no reason and with no evidence presented or access to legal counsel. The dangers in the NDAA are its alarmingly vague, undefined criteria for who can be indefinitely detained by the US government without trial. It is now no longer limited to members of al Qaeda or the Taliban, but anyone accused of "substantially supporting" such groups or "associated forces." How closely associated? And what constitutes "substantial" support? What if it was discovered that someone who committed a terrorist act was once involved with a charity? Or supported a political candidate? Are all donors of that charity or supporters of that candidate now suspect, and subject to in-

definite detainment? Is that charity now an associated force? Additionally, this legislation codifies in law for the first time authority to detain Americans that has to this point only been claimed by President Obama. According to subsection (e) of section 1021, "[n]othing in this section shall be construed to affect existing law or authorities relating to the detention of United States citizens, lawful resident aliens of the United States, or any other persons who are captured or arrested in the United States." This means the president's widely expanded view of his own authority to detain Americans indefinitely even on American soil is for the first time in this legislation codified in law. That should chill all of us to our cores. The Bill of Rights has no exemptions for "really bad people" or terrorists or even non-citizens. It is a key check on government power against any person. That is not a weakness in our legal system; it is the very strength of our legal system. The NDAA attempts to justify abridging the bill of rights on the theory that rights are suspended in a time of war, and the entire Unites States is a battlefield in the War on Terror. This is a very dangerous development indeed. Beware. ----------------------On Jan. 18, Ron Paul introduced a simple bill to remove the Section 1021 of the NDAA that allows America citizens to be detained indefinitely: "I rise today to introduce a very simple piece of legislation to repeal the infamous section 1021 of the National Defense Authorization Act quietly signed into law by the president on New Year 's Day," Ron Paul said. "What a way to usher in the new year. Section 1021 essentially codifies into law the very dubious claim of presidential authority under the 2001 authority for the use of military force to indefinitely detain American citizens without access to legal representation or due process of law." "Too many of my colleagues are too willing to undermine our constitution to support such outrageous legislation," Ron Paul said. "One senator even said, about American citizens being picked up under this section of the NDAA: 'When they say I want my lawyer, you tell them: Shut up, you don't get a lawyer.'" Wake up, people!

New Year Off To A Good Start At Lagarto Community Club


LAGARTO January 19 Our hostesses for the January meeting, Jessica Keese and Peggy Barnett, decorated with the New Year theme in mind and the luncheon was delicious. All our members were eager to get the year off to a good start and first on the agenda we approved a bid for repainting the trim on the schoolhouse. Plus, a hearty thank-you was given to member, Connie Reardon, and her husband for the work they have done in repairing the window screens and they should be back on the building soon. While a primary purpose of our organization is the maintenance and care of the Old Lagarto School, we find ourselves involved with other organizations, as well, in an effort to assist with their programs and activities. An example was our donation last month to the Womens Shelter in Corpus Christi. This month our treasurer made what has become an annual donation to the Live Oak County Fair Association. Also, annually, we provide scholarships to children at our local high schoolsthis years committee chairman will be Sharon Tonne again. Another donation made last month was to the South Texas Childrens Home in Beeville in memory of Dee Worsham.

The annual Rummage Sale is scheduled for April 14th this year and already members are hauling in their valuable donations to help make this the best sale ever. Because we had cancelled our December Vendors sale it was voted to bring the vendors in to participate in this April sale. Vendors can reserve a table for only $10 by calling Trish Arink at 5470458. Connie Castanon is the Committee Chair for the Rummage Sale and, hopefully, she will have recovered fully from her surgery by then! The club is not all work and no play as we do have guest speakers from time to time. This month we had a local resident, a registered nurse and consultant to home health agencies, Ms. Beverly Strong, who gave a presentation on Medicare requirements regarding home health services. She enlightened us all by discussing in detail the services that these agencies offer.

Prayers and well wishes go out to our newly elected president, Cathy Wyble, for a speedy recovery from double bypass surgery. SSVFD will be offering a fish fry once again on Friday, February 24th from 5-7:30 PM. We will have the usual fried fish, french fries, beans, cole slaw, dessert, iced tea or water. The cost will be $7.50. Tickets will be available from SSVFD Friends members, Firemen, well as at Mikes Market in Swinney Switch. We will be having a Food Handlers Class which will be held at our next meeting on Tuesday, February 7th at 6:30 PM. All members, and friends who work on our events are urged to update your cards. This class is also open to the public without charge. Meeting is held at the fires station in Swinney Switch. Our cook books are still available and can be seen at Mikes Market in Swinney Switch or any of our members can obtain one for you. They are $15.00 and well worth the price. It is one of our ways of raising money to help update our emergency equipment for our fire department. Watch this paper for the date of our next Bazaar. The one in November was a huge success and we hope this one will be even bigger and better. Update next month.

An outing has been planned for the 28th of the month to attend the 2012 Quilt Show being held in Rockport. It should be a fun day ending with a great meal at the Big Fisherman. Winning the door prize at this January meeting, Trish Arink received a decorative fragrance diffuser. Workshops begin again on February 2nd, 9:00 a.m. and our next scheduled meeting will be on February 9th, 11:00 a.m. We have two (2) new members and you can join us too maybe you would like to do some soft aerobatics or maybe you can pull out a chair at the card table. We really need some crafters so come on over and check us out at the Lagarto School on FM 534.

The NDAA Repeals More Rights

The NDAA... is not about indefinitely detaining Muslim cave dwellers. Its about disappearing American citizens who oppose the bankster cartel now in control of the government. The law is a violent and sudden usurpation of the Constitution of the sort James Madison warned about. The founders considered habeas corpus the most fundamental of rights because it insured that the executive branch could not hold people without cause. Gingrich? Santorum? Romney? For More of The Same? Or Ron Paul, For Real Hope and Change?
electing a commander-inchief. Then there are other socalled conservatives who seem to believe that continual war in the middle east in the name of spreading democracy or preemptive war for our safety and security are the key issues. Far be it from them any idea of the United States simply maintaining a strong defensive military in case of attack on the United States. Some of these even believe that the 9/11 terrorist attacks were an attack on the United States. If one looks a little closer at the facts, it was an attack by a group of terrorists of unproven original backing who created an event to galvanize Americans into the idea of giving up liberty for something they believe is safety and security. It galvanized Americans to support unconstitutional wars against an abstract concept called terrorism. It allowed then-President Bush to institute the Patriot Act, a blatant violation of certain freedoms guaranteed by the Bill or Rights, with little or no opposition. The warmongering conservatives seem to treat our various involvements in war as though they were the Superbowl. Spreading democracy? Well, first America is not a democracy and fortunately never has been. Why do we think we should spread democracy? Democracy always ends very badly, with 51% telling the other 49% what they can and cannot do. America is not a democracy but rather a democratic republic, although government by polls and the media is a subversive way of creating sort of a democracy because of the fact that politicians are very poll-oriented. Politicians probably wake up every day wondering how they are doing in the polls. Then there are other conservatives who at least pay lip service to smaller government, lower debt, controlled deficit spending and fewer government restrictions who, out of the other side of their mouths, support big-government, statist candidates for the Republican candidate for President of the United States. As has been pointed out before in this paper, there is no true difference between establishment Republicans and establishment Democrats other than that each party believes in a slightly different approach to big government, government knows best, and our party can run big government better than yours can. Among the Republicans left remaining in the race for being the Republican candidate, Mitt Romney is, at best, Obamalite. He can easily be viewed by his past record as governor of Massachusetts as left of center, right along the lines of a John Kerry and further left than George Bush. Rick Santorum really could not possibly appeal to anyone other than Evangelical Christians, those seeking a theocratic government and some of those who insist that President have gorgeous hair and good looks. It is quite apparent that the establishment Republicans (those in power in the Republican Party) and western power elite want Mitt Romney for the Republican candidate. He gets money, lots of support from all major news networks and newspapers, lots of air time and lots of debate time. The Democrats, who control most of the media outlets, are also in favor of Mitt Romney. Why would this be? In the case of establishment Republicans, they have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo, and that is exactly what Romney represents. In the case of Democrats, they know that if Romney gets the nod from the GOP, he will probably lose to Obama. If he wins, he will indeed still be Obama-lite. The power elite already know they can control Romney just as easily as Obama. Second choice of all these statist-status-quo groups is probably Newt Gingrich, followed by Santorum and Rick Perry. Lets see. Whos missing here? Ah, yes, Ron Paul, whose name, when mentioned in the mainstream media is always followed by something like, the one who cannot possibly win. Why are the establishment Republicans, the power elite and the Democrats all trying to ignore Ron Paul and emphasize that he cannot win? Because they are scared out of their wits that he could win the Republican nomination, win the Presidency and spoil all their agendas, bringing back the America we once had, affording liberty and freedom, prosperity, a very limited government, removing restrictions on real free trade, removing regulations favoring global corporations, removing America from needless overseas involvements (which are very much needed and desired by the power elite in order to bring America to its knees economically,) and actively supporting states rights. And most perversely, he has a specific and definite, delineated plan for reining in deficit spending. He is the only candidate that even has such a plan. It is entitled Ron Pauls Plan to Restore America. Here is summary of his proposals:

When the mainstream media (including Fox News Channel) refer to evangelical Christians in the political arena, by context it is easy to see that what they mean is Republicans for whom abortion and gay marriage are the key issues of the 2012 presidential race (and any other race) who will support the candidate who seems to be the most adamant about federal government regulation of abortion and marriage. If the media are to be believed, these people seem to be far more interested in those two issues than in the problems created by corporate entities, corporate lobbyists, laws that are beneficial to these special interests, the Federal Reserve or big government and its ever increasing attempts to take away our freedoms. After all, what problems do we have that cannot be solved by government control of those two issues? This seems to be the thinking. These same Evangelicals seem to want more freedom and liberty and smaller government? How can you reconcile federal control of certain aspects of peoples personal lives with more freedom and liberty or less government control? That looks like and walks like and talks like hypocrisy. That having been said, a wellknown Southern Baptist once said, We are not electing a theologian-in-chief. We are

Ron Paul, educated, spoke truth, and enlightened Americans who were watching. We felt it again, just hearing what he was standing for in that simple debate. We were not a part of the Ron Paul revolution even a few years ago. We were ignorant, and just played into the all-tocommon ignorance pool about what is really happening to our beloved country. We even thought we were pretty well educated and informed. We were not. We even started this website with no intention to support Ron Paul, but now, we have been enlightened and inspired by what we have come to know, through our process of finding out the truth of any matter, and our choice is to support and vote for a man who has the character, record, and knowledge comparable to the founding fathers themselves, Ron Paul in 2012. We have been rigorously studying the topics and history of our country, the decisions made, the wars, the reasons our nation went to wars, the presidents of our country, etc., and while we have been under such studies, we began listening and studying Ron Pauls records, speeches, debates, etc., and we found all that he was saying, all he has been saying, and all he has stood for, ties into the truth of what we personally found through our own studies about what our leaders have been doing to our country, their real agenda, and what really is going on with their attempt to undermine and overthrow the Constitution of the United States of America, our sovereignty, and ultimately the freedom of all nations. We invite you to join in the quest to find out the truth, and then ask for yourself if Ron Paul is the candidate you will support to bring American back to it beauty, before special interests started the hostage takeover through the banking systems of the world. Although Ron Paul is lacking in some areas in our personal perspective, we have yet to see a leader such as he has been and continues to be. Ron Pauls presidency, eliminating five cabinet departments (Energy, HUD, Commerce, Interior, and Education), abolishing the Transportation Security Administration and returning responsibility for security to private property owners, abolishing corporate subsidies, stopping foreign aid, ending foreign wars, and returning most other spending to 2006 levels.

Whats Wrong With this Picture


by Gwen Guyser After reading volumes of information, heres my take on the candidates for the Republican nomination for President: Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich: Both of them are slightly to the left of center on a leftist/rightist scale. Both are simply Obama-lite, or NeoCons, or RINOS supported by the corporatist/elitists and heavily tied to such. Neither have true principles and values. Both, in the eyes of many voters, belong to cultist religions, Mitt by birth, Newt by choice. The power elites want Romney, but they will accept Gingrich as a second choice. Both love big government. Rick santour: Forget him. Only people who like nice hair and a nice smile or want a theocratic government would vote for him, and there is absolutely no way he can beat Obama. On exit polls in South Carolina, the only significant demographic figure was that a disproportionate number of women voted for great hair and smile. In the unlikely event that he won the presidency, he would become the laughing stock of most of America and the world. Ron Paul: The only candidate not controlled by the corporatist/elitists, the only candidate not driven by a desire for power and control, the only candidate who can start American in the right direction, the only candidate who can beat Obama in the general election, the only true constitutionalist in the race, the only candidate who has true grassroots Americans donating nearly all the funds to his campaign. South Carolinas results were also an embracement of something more base and emotional that many GOP voters are obviously hungry for. When South Carolina Congressman Joe Wilson yelled you lie! at Obama during the Presidents State of the Union speech in 2009, he became a hero to conservativesnot for any specific policy stances or political positions, but simply for yelling at the president. They liked that Wilson challenged Obama. When Newt Gingrich dressed down CNNs John King at the beginning of Thursday nights debate, he became an instant hero to many conservatives. This gave Newt a resounding victory in the South Carolina primary. Most pundits and probably even Gingrich himself would not disagree with this analysis. But like Wilson, Newts newfound popularity is not based on any of his particular policy stances or political positions. Its personality-based. In fact, when you examine Gingrichs actual record and rhetoric, you find a mountain of material that proves Newt to be anything but conservative. Gingrich won South Carolina handily because he berated the mediawhich conservatives rightly see as often being in cahoots with Obama. Gingrich won because conservatives want to challenge Obama. Conservatives dont see this sort of fight coming from Mitt Romney. Conservatives will also come to no longer see it coming from Gingrich. When looking at the actual issues Obama and the Democrats will undoubtedly challenge the Republican nominee on, Gingrich stands far closer to Obama ideologically than he stands against him. Newt is going challenge this President on ObamaCare? Obama will accuse Gingrich of being for the individual mandate before he was against it. And Newt was. The same is true of Romney. Challenging this President on TARP and the bailouts? Newt supported those too. So did Mitt. Cap-and-Trade? The same. And the list goes on. If Republican voters want a nominee willing to yell at the President, then Gingrich is unquestionably their man. But if GOP voters want a candidate whose limited government philosophy represents a full-throttle, scathing critique of Obama, the Democrats and modern liberalismthere is only one candidate. Newt Gingrich is surly. Great. Ron Paul is substance. Newt Gingrich can yell. Fantastic. Ron Paul can go the distance. Indeed, according to most Americans only Romney and Paul can actually defeat Barack Obama in a head-tohead battle. Only one of the candidates who can beat Obama is conservative. Only one candidate offers the American people something that is truly distinct and a vast improvement over what the Democrats offer. Yelling at Obama is not a philosophy and will not suffice. This President must be defeated. Paul vs. Obama will offer Americans a choice between the big government status quo and limited government constitutionalismthe most distinct and real choice in modern political history. Gingrich cannot win the White House because he doesnt have independent support, his negatives are far too high and his arguments are far too shallow. The 17th Amendment and States Rights


The year of 1913 was a detrimental time for America. It was the year that saw the passing of the Federal Reserve Act, the 16th Amendment that helped impose an income tax, and the year that brought about the 17th Amendment. In May of 1913, Secretary of State Williams Jennings Bryan declared the 17th Amendment ratified. For those who are not familiar with the 17th Amendment, it is the amendment that changed how Senators are elected. The 17th Amendment is an intriguing subject because, I believe, it was the amendment that stripped the States from proper representation in Washington. Article 1 Section 3 Paragraph 1 of the Constitution outlines the specifics of the election of U.S. Senators. Senators were to be elected via appointment by the State legislatures of their respective State and States were to determine how to appoint a Senator. The Framers of our Constitution felt the need for a Senator to be of the utmost stature. It may seem a bit arrogant for the Framers to not want a direct democracy; however, the Framers foresaw that without proper State representation in Washington, States would end up subject to the federal government. Under the Articles of Confederation, the legislative body was a unicameral chamber. Although those who were representatives in the Continental Congress were comprised of men appointed by State legislatures, the Framers saw the fallacy of the unicameral Congress. They made much of the need of deliberation, of the danger that might arise from the impulsiveness of a single chamber, and of the probability of its coming to use its powers autocratically unless it felt the restraint of a potential check in some coordinate chamber, wrote George Haynes Ph.D. in his 1906 The Election of Senators book. During the American Revolutionary War State Governors were appointed by legislatures, as well as other government officials. The appointment of officials by State legislatures to represent a State worked well enough to win a war; then why would it not contribute to an infant nation whose history is one of glory? The legislatures of the States served as a filter to the nation, a filter for direct democracy. Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on whats for dinner, this is what Ben Franklin believed in. For the Framers it was a difficult question. How do you the represent both the States and the People under a federal contract? Remember the hierarchy; God, man then government. . That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, is what our Declaration of Independence clearly states. From this excerpt of the declaration, we can plainly see that government is a creation of man; and man can only delegate whatsoever was given to him from his creator. So if a State is a creation of the Sovereigns, and the Constitution is a contract between the States; then how is a system created where both are represented and where mob rule would not be the law of the land? and their God-given Rights; and the Senate would rightfully represent the States as a whole. What a better way to preserve the sovereignty of the People and of the States than to have one chamber of the Congress represent the People and another represent the States. This is what would help secure the rights of the States, proper representation. U.S. Senators are to be ambassadors of a State to the federal government. The 17th Amendment, coupled with the Federal Reserve Act and the infamous 16th Amendment shouted conspiracy to me. The fact that a Federal Reserve Chairman is to be appointed by the President and approved by the Senate seemed coincidental with the ratification of the 17th Amendment. Now instead of the Money Trust having to corrupt State legislatures to do their bidding in Washington through Senators; the Money Trust can now easily cut out the middleman so-to-speak. However, as I have outlined in this article, the idea for how U.S. Senators are to be elected is as old as our Constitution. Whether or not a conspiracy does exist concerning the 17th Amendment, the facts cannot be removed that the election of Senators by State legislatures caused many problems in the Senate. During the years 1851, 1855, and 1856, California failed to appoint Senators in Washington. Indiana, as well, had vacant Senate seats for two years in the 1850s. One extreme example of the deadlock between State legislatures was when the Maine Senate elected, more than twelve times in one session, Senator Fessenden only to have the lower chamber refuse the appointment. With States having this type of gridlock, the States themselves did not have proper representation in Washington as the Framers originally intended. July 7, 1866 a bill was passed to help ensure that every Senate seat was occupied. The bill was to regulate Senate elections, and called for both State legislative chambers to meet separately and by viva voce vote for a Senator. If this method failed, one proposal was to have a joint assembly of the State legislatures and without interruption by other business (State business), vote until a Senator was appointed. There was much uproar over this clause in the bill. Many felt that the federal government was not granted the authority to halt State legislation. One Senator felt that it was a higher duty of the States and its legislatures to elect Senators. The Senator believed that the United States government was important to the States; and under this theory, forcing States to appoint a Senator by stopping any State business was not an inappropriate penalty. However, this section of the bill was amended to have the State have at least one vote daily in a joint session until a Senator was appointed. If you truly understand sovereignty, then the Senators ideas should leave a chill down your spine. This Senator felt it was appropriate for the federal government to control and penalize States. The bill of 1866 was one of the first to usurp State sovereignty and have the federal government impose measures it felt more appropriate.

ENTITLEMENTS: Honors our promise to our seniors and veterans, while allowing young workers to opt out. Block-grants Medicaid and other welfare programs to allow States the flexibility and ingenuity they need to solve their own unique problems without harming those currently relying on the programs.

CUTTING GOVERNMENT WASTE: Makes a 10% reduction in the federal workforce, slashes Congressional pay and perks, and curbs excessive federal travel. To stand with the American People, President Paul will take a salary of $39,336, approximately equal to the median personal income of the American worker.

TAXES: Lowers the corporate tax rate to 15%, making America competitive in the global market. Allows American companies to repatriate capital without additional taxation, spurring trillions in new investment. Extends all Bush tax cuts. Abolishes the Death Tax. Ends taxes on personal savings, allowing families to build a nest egg.

REGULATION: Repeals ObamaCare, DoddFrank, and Sarbanes-Oxley. Mandates REINS-style requirements for thorough Congressional review and authorization before implementing any new regulations issued by bureaucrats. President Paul will also cancel all onerous regulations previously issued by Executive Order.

MONETARY POLICY: Conducts a full audit of the Federal Reserve and implements competing currency legislation to strengthen the dollar and stabilize inflation.

CONCLUSION: Dr. Paul is the only candidate with a plan to cut spending and truly balance the budget. This is the only plan that will deliver what America needs in these difficult times: Major regulatory relief, large spending cuts, sound monetary policy, and a balanced budget.

The votes of the anyone-but-Romney crowd are split between the other candidates, though probably not with Ron Paul, as those who support Ron Paul do it without any reservations, with great commitment and without any kind of Anyone-ButRomney mentality. What the Romney and Anyone-ButRomney factions are not taking into account is that Ron Paul is the one who can beat

Obama. In the most recent CNN poll, Paul bests Obama 49 to 45 percent among persons 65 and older, a voter segment considered to be the most reliable for turnout. Paul also beats Obama among persons 50 to 64 by a 47 to 45 percent margin. Taken together, according to the poll, voters over 50 deliver Paul a clean 48 to 45 percent win over Obama. Versus Obama, Paul defeats him 51 to 45 percent in the Midwest, 49 to 45 percent in the South, 61 to 35 percent in rural areas, and ties him at 47 percent in suburban areas. Paul also bests all other Republican candidates among nonwhite voters when matched against Obama, again carrying a solid quarter of those votes, and defeating Obama among white voters 54 to 41 percent, and men 49 to 44 percent. Perhaps most important in the race for the White House, Paul seizes more support from independents than any other Republican, matching or defeating Obama 46 to 48 percent vis a vis the +/- 5 percent error margin. The MSM (mainstream media) talks a great deal about Rick Perry and Rick Santorum, as well as Newt Gingrich, but they avoid even a mention of Ron Paul. Why cant Romney win? Romney, in nearly all Republican polls, is the one to beat Obama. However, when independents and Democrats are included in the poll, Romney and Paul are neck and neck, with Paul bringing in more independent voters than Obama. Romney cannot win over independent voters, most of the under-30 crowd or most baby boomers. Once upon a time there were neighbors who lived next door to each other but lived entirely different lifestyles. The Smiths had five children who were loud and noisy and who committed petty vandalism against the next-door neighbors, the Rands, an older couple with no children at home. The Rands asked the Smiths politely to stop their children from climbing their fence and painting graffiti on their driveway and also requested that the Smiths try to keep their children from being so noisy. Mr. Smith felt threatened and imposed upon by these requests and bought a new shotgun, figuring that if Mr. Rand came over again, he would be holding his shotgun and frighten Mr. Rand. Sure enough when Smiths children were caught digging in Rands garden, Mr. Rand went back to see Mr. Smith and was greeted with a shotgun in hand. Mr. Rand was now feeling a little threatened by Mr. Smith and was angry, so he went out and bought a bigger, heavier gauge shotgun and paraded around his yard with it, firing it into the air, making sure that Mr. Smith knew he had it. Mr. Smith thought, Ill show you! and went out and bought a .22 assault rifle, showing it off to Mr. Rand. Meanwhile, Mr. Rands grapevines were growing up over Mr. Smiths fence and causing the fence to sag. Mr. Smith asked Mr. Rand to move his vines to another location because they were causing his fence to sag. Mr. Rand did make at least some effort to trim back his vines, but he went out and bought a higher caliber gun than Mr. Smith had. Neither Mr. Smith nor Mr. Rand were rich. They both lived a paycheck-to-paycheck existence, and both were now in debt because of their arms purchases. Both were suffering from the debt, all because of their arms race. Mr. Smith had it worst of all because of his large family. One day, he swallowed his pride and went to Mr. Rand, his axe on purpose into the pool at the same place, and sat down on the bank to weep. Mercury appeared to him just as he hoped he would; and having learned the cause of his grief, plunged into the stream and brought up a golden axe, inquiring if he had lost it. The Workman seized it greedily, and declared that truly it was the very same axe that he had lost. Mercury, displeased at his knavery, not only took away the golden axe, but refused to recover for him the axe he had thrown into the pool. Moral: The dishonest lose in the long run. telling him, Look, Ill keep my kids out of your yard and restrict their noisy play to two hours a day if you will just completely remove those grapevines. Ill even help you move them. That way we each respect each others rights to property and sovereignty over it. Mr. Rand, very relieved, since he did not even know how to use the guns he had bought, agreed. They shook hands, and both honored their agreement with each other, yet each kept their guns, just in case. Within a year, the grapevines were moved. Smiths kids had grown up enough that they understood they could not infringe on the Rands rights. Within ten years, the Smith and the Rands, while not exactly bosom buddies talked freely over the fence in a very friendly manner. Neither family wished any harm to the other, only happy to have preserved their own rights without a serious conflict and without losing the property rights of either family. Zigo (1946)

Hello! Today it is raining....and I have now got planted a small Olive orchard and will let it double in size overtime maybe triple. But one small problem, those carpenter ants. They took after one of my trees and stripped the leaves off on one side. So, desperate times required quick work. To my aid was DE (diatomaceous earth), quick work to the sorrow of those cutting little insects. As of this morning I have zero Carpenter ants. Yeah! Yes, I know the little stingers will some day soon be back....but again I have DE! I have planted some assortment of greens and all are doing well. Also, I have bought some tomato plants and turnip greens. By now all of you know how I like to eat fresh greens. I have tomatoes still growing in my Grow Camp, as well as broccoli, and peppers and sweet basil. That has been a great invention, the Grow Camp. For those who may have missed my initial article about it, it is sort of a combination screen house/green house in raised bed format. Back to those olive trees, I cried out of joy having those trees planted and will remember to keep them watered perfectly. I am thinking when they make olives in a year or two to have a party to just pick olives. It sounds good to me how about you? Have a delicious beverage that I make. No kids. Do not want them to know how much fun we older folks have, right? Most of the shallots were dug up by some critter, but a few made I t and was it ever a

surprise when I saw some shooting up from the ground. Made my day. Shallots are growing with my garlic chives. The asparagus I had to cut back after the last freeze we had. Then again I have 2 small cabbages growing in a pot, honestly. German thyme, and my spinach is coming back. The Swiss chard has never quit growing it is amazing. Now I have seedlings which I hope will soon come to life. It is always a chance with me to get them started at the right time. This year seems to be the best ever for getting my act together. So, now on to you. Please write me at jenell@lakecountryshopper.com and let me know what you are doing with your gardens. Flower gardens, vegetable garden and even medicinal gardens. This is the perfect time to start those, and if you just put the seed into the ground as long as the birds do not see them you will have lots of different things growing. Be sure and make a label for the plants and then when they go to seed learn how to save those seeds and grow more the next year. It is fun once you get into it. Gardening makes sure you get all the vitamin D that you need and can eliminate the need for an exercise program. Remember you can use coffee cans, plastic bottles -- really anything that will hold dirt to plant your seeds in. Think how Mother Nature re-seeds. She just lets them fall as they can and blows them all around and they grow. So, do not make it such hard work. You will be surprised when you serve the food that you grew.

My gosh how long has it been since you have eaten anything but grocery store perfect tomatoes. Oh! Did I say perfect well if looks count it is perfect. But when it comes to nutrition and flavor you need to grow them yourself. And as far as that goes anything you grow yourself will naturally come out a winner hands down over the grocery store simply because it is fresh. If you cannot get something to grow, it happens. With me, root crops do not like to work with me so I buy a turnip usually and plant it in the ground and when the leaves come up just cut off some and more will grow back. That is my work a round on that subject. You will find your on way to get around things in the garden also. So go ahead and get outside now, to enjoy this spring lots of fresh food. Also, you can buy fresh ginger and put it in a pot and grow more ginger. When growing cabbage and related plants try planting White Long Radishes around it, because it tends to keep away worms. Until next month March (remember the Ides of March and the winds of March) get your seeds planted and let me know how you are doing with your garden. Sure hope we get enough rain this winter, so lets pray for rain. Remember FREEDOM is not Free! Get out and plant a garden for you and your family. by Miss Daisy Duke In doggy years, I am approaching middle age, and I have discovered new secrets on how to use it against Mom and Little Mom. I pretend not to hear them or to see them. Works for me. How about you? Hey, Im getting on up there in age. Im not a youngster any longer. I love excuses not to do what I am supposed to do. Now, if only I could have a hammock under the trees. Being Queen of the World, I deserve one. But, I found something nearly as good. I found out I could easily get up on Moms outdoor recliner, curl up and be comfortable and really cool! I dont think she has seen me do it yet, or she would probably shoo me off of it. A man in a van carrying packages (not the big brown one) came three times this month, and, I tell you, I dont like him. I bark and bark every time he comes. He is afraid of me, and that makes me bark and bark some more. Last time he came, I tried jumping the fence so I could get right in his face. If didnt have such a big fat rear end I bet I could do it. Mom was not happy with my attempts, I can tell you. She kept barking enuff! over and over. And I thought I was the only one around here who could bark. I ate another small animal this week. It did not hop around all crazy like those frog critters, but it smelled good, so I killed it and ate it. It was pretty crunchy and a lot of fun to eat. Mom caught me crunching on it and told me to spit it out. I gave her one of my make me looks and kept on crunching. Later, however, I got sick as a dog. I suppose I have to admit that Mom knows best. I hate that. Next to cats, the thing I hate the most is itty-bitty dogs with loud grating barks. I am sure if they were not so tiny and were big like me they would be very mean and scary dogs. Those little twerps really get on my last nerve. I would love to have one of those over for lunch someday (except they might either make me sick or turn me into a mean dog). By having them for lunch, I dont mean inviting them to share lunch at my house. Get my drift? Little mom and a guy who lives nearby came for two days in a row with truck loads of trees. The man dug a whole bunch of holes in the yard and planted the trees in those holes. How could trees be so important anyway? Im a dog, and I can run and jump. Im much more important. Then I heard my peeps talking about leaves, blooms and fruit production. I dont know what fruit is, but they seemed to be very interested in how many olives each tree might produce. I already have experience at eating acorns. I wonder is olives will be anything like acorns. My peeps dont eat acorns, but they sure seemed interested in eating olives. Ill never understand humans. Fleas and ants are really botherome these days. Those little critterr dont deserve to live. I bet that group Mom always talks bad about, PETA, probably has named them some kind of endangered species. Well, I guarantee that I go after em, they are endangered. Then theres Little Mom, always dusting them something that Im pretty sure could kill em. More power to her! Woof! Woof! Time for this dog to take a snooze.

Hi girls! Listen, forget all I said last month....I must have been crazy telling you to not even worry about taking care of your wonderful home. It was a rough last year, but everything is now okay. What I did say about getting ready for Valentine Day was correct. So, I must assume your Valentine Day items and stuff have been gone over and you now know exactly what you need to complete everything for your Valentine Day party. I will give you a great recipe before I leave you today. But first things first....go make up a batch of your favorite beverage and let us get ready for a party. Guess you have already cleaned up from breakfast, made your beds, and vacuumed everything and dusted. Placed the dishes in the dishwasher and your clothes in the washer and can take on anything that comes up both inside and outdoors. I found a few plants and got those planted in the hot house and most of my other potted plants have survived the ravages of nature. Still have a few tomatoes, they are so good, and the taste still amazes me. But again if you have use a liquid carwash and washed your windows all you need now is to just hose down the windows, let dry and enjoy a streak free window. Remember when you see streaks redo the windows with the liquid car wax and it will last through many a cleaning and by using a water hose you get that out of your way like a streak of luck! Go get a place to take a deserved break with your favorite beverage. Mmm, it is so good! Maybe after that break you can prune your plants a little and freshen up around those with a little compost covered with just enough mulch. Doesnt it look nice and neat and like you worked for hours on that project? You never tell anyone just how little time you have spent on any project you do. Today, why not cook something in the slow cooker? Put it on early and cook until everyone is home and the prepare your best meal. Just read recipes sometimes and you will knock the socks off of your family with your own creativity. So plan what you will do for your get together for Valentines Da y! Outdoor party casual, indoor /outdoor with kids or not? Just decide what you want to do and enjoy cause you have everything under control. So here is the best cookie recipe I have every used and it is tasty. Bake @ 375 for 8-10 minutes. 1-1/4 cups butter at room temperature, 2 cups sugar, 2 eggs, 5 cups flour, 1 tsp salt, 3 teaspoons soda, 1 tsp each, nutmeg, clove and ginger, 3 tsp cinnamon, cup milk, then cream butter and sugar, add eggs & beat til fluffy. Stir dry ingredients together, adding alternately with milk to your creamed mixture. If dough is sticky, add a little flour to handle the dough. You can roll to 1/4" think on well floured pastry cloth cut into cookies or cut in 3 equal blocks of dough and wrap with Saran Wrap and freeze for sometime til ready to use. Each one of those blocks make 2 dozen cookies. Bake @ 375 for 8-10 minutes do not overbake makes about 140 cookies so they say but I get about 100 cookies. Maybe the cookie monster ate some, I dont know anything about those other 40, honest. Well, let us see what is happening next month, something about the Ides of March maybe. Oh! Many are designed to sell expensive dried foods, but I thought this was a good general article you might want to read. How to Survive The United States Economic Collapse By an anonymous blogger Using basic Austrian Economics an impending economic collapse is imminent in the United States. With horrible debt, inflation, national debt, and multiplying debt to GDP ratio an economic collapse WILL happen. I'm writing this article to all Americans or people of the world to help you survive the economic collapse. Things You'll Need * Time to prepare * Some money * Strong Willpower The first thing one must do is learn what they will do in food shortages or in cases of hyper inflated food prices. This requires somebody to well in advance start putting away non-perishable goods. There are many sites on the internet which detail how to safely store foods. There are also many videos on youtube which describe how to store foods for long term. You will need many beans, grains, rice, powdered milk, sugar, and yeast. Collect many staples that are eaten around the world. Store dehydrated fruits and vegetables as well. Many economic indicators show that we could be in for it for decades. Plant several fruit trees on your property if possible. Learn how to garden and garden well. Plant foods that have a high volume of productivity (plant cherry tomatoes vs. large big pretty ones because they yield higher volumes & weight). Plant what grows well for your area and concentrate on that. In an economic collapse, experimental plants should be out of the question. Focus on what you can grow VERY well. Silver and/or Gold is a must. Buy as much raw bullion as possible. Do not buy paper gold and silver either because in a collapse, futures markets can default as well leaving you with paper. Buy smaller pieces of bullion so that you can trade it easier. I put an emphasis on silver because right now it is more affordable and very liquid. If the currency (paper) value collapses, silver & gold will be a means of trade, along with barter. Take up trades like sewing, mechanics work, and construction. If you are at a desk job now, be sure that you are skilled in these areas. These types of trades can help you repair your home or somebody else's home if needed without having to call a pro. Have spare 2X4's in the garage or tucked away somewhere ready to go. If needed, you can secure your windows and doors with these if needed (in the event of mass rioting). A 12-gauge [shotgun] you will need. Many many people argue and debate what type of gun or what kind of bullets, clips, and defensive / hunting weapons you will need. A 12gauge is simple, cheap, widely available, and nobody will argue that a 12-gauge is a wonderful gun to own. It's great for hunting, and great for general home defense if needed. Put away extra clothing. Stock good quality clothes with fabrics made of wool & high quality cotton mixed with polyester. A good wool sweater will keep you through any temperatures and cotton + polyester T-Shirts will last for years in the summers. Stock good quality boots, work boots, and shoes. Stock a good quality pellet gun. The ammunition is cheap, they are very quiet, and you will be able to hunt all the fowl you want if needed. These are also great for getting small critters too. Stock some supplies for camping. These can help you in a pinch. Stock propane & gasoline too. Check out internet articles on economic collapses in Argentina & Zimbabwe. These are great resources as well to help you survive. In a collapse, do not trust anybody. What is reported people will come up to you dressed well and who look descent & rob you. Tips to Better Photos

compose great images. A second level of seeing is to use your imagination as you're studying a subject with your eyes. Imagine the overall shape of the tree if it was darkened and silhouetted against the sky or in reverse if it was a bit lighter making colors more pastel and so on. Remember as a photographer you always have the option to under or over expose your image or to wait for a different time of day or change in the weather. What would the tree look like on a foggy morning ? Also always remember that most subjects can be viewed from countless different angles. Some of my favorite tree photos were taken with me flat on my back on the ground with my camera pointed straight up into the branches of the trees. You'll find it also helps to visit art museums or at least go to the library and find fine art and photography books . Absorb what others have created by imagination and by seeing their subjects in new ways. What you are able to see depends to some extent on what you bring to the scene before you. In a way nature is much like a mirror that reflects what lies within the viewer. I know how true this is by teaching seminars where the students end up with vastly different images even though they are shooting the same scene in the same conditions. This month I've decided to delve a bit into the aesthetics of photography. You can master all the technical aspects of photography, but without learning how to see and create images that have some type of appeal or quality of interest, mood, or beauty, you'll just be producing sharp, well exposed but boring photos no matter what your technical expertise. So how does one go about learning to produce an effective image ? It all boils down to learning to see. As babies we seem to know how to see as soon as we're old enough to focus on distant objects, but there's more than one kind of seeing . Actually when we are very young and have just started seeing the world around us we are seeing in the way that is needed in photography. However as we get older and the world around us becomes familiar, we lose the ability. What I mean is that after we've seen say hundreds or thousands of trees we see a tree, recognize it as such, register it in our mind as a tree, yet in reality we really haven't seen the tree. The next time you're looking at a tree, close your eyes and use your imagination. Imagine that when you open your eyes your going to be seeing the first tree you've ever seen. When you open your eyes examine the overall shape, then the different shapes of each branch, the subtle changes of color, etc. Then move closer and inspect the different textures, the veins in the leaves and on and on. There is so much to see in a single tree when you really learn to see. The factory is reassembled and put into operation using Chinese slave labor. Using raw materials from the US, literally given to the corporations because they are US based, products are manufactured and shipped back to the United States where they are sold in international franchise chain stores based in the US, like Target and Home Depot. So now we have a connection between Bain Capital and the mainstream media like MSNBC, FOX News, The Weather Channel, and Clear Channel Communications; American factories that have been outsourced like Sealy Corporation, Burlington Coat Factory, and D&M Holdings (high end audio equipment); international franchises like Target, Home Depot, Burlington Coat Factory, Dunkin Donuts, Burger King, Guitar Center, Dominos Pizza, Gymboree, Sports Authority, and Brookstone. Bain Capital also owns interest in Houghton Mifflin, a textbook publisher that gets contracts from the Department of Education. Now is it any surprise that MSNBC attacks Dr. Paul and says he cannot be elected as president? You see Dr. Paul wants to eliminate the Department of Education, which would mean a loss of profit for Houghton Mifflin, which means a loss of profit for Bain Capital, which means a loss of profit for MSNBC, which cannot be tolerated. Bain Capital acquired Hospital Corporation of America in July of 2006, the last year of Romneys term as Governor of Massachusetts. So at the end of Romneys term, Bain Capital starts gaining profits from Romney Care via Medicare and Medicaid in that state. And of course the insurance companies, whose investors also own stock in Bain Capital, see increased profits. Bain Capital is either directly or indirectly, through common investors, connected to franchises around the world, owned by the international elite, who are piling up wealth

through the destruction of US industry. Here is what Mitt Romney wants. Hell take your factory job where you are making $30 per hour plus benefits, hell dismantle the factory you are working in and move it to China where a slave laborer will take over your former job, while back here in the USA, using stimulus dollars and foreign workers on visas, he will build a home depot where you can go to work for minimum wage, selling the Chinese version of the product you used to manufacture. And we are supposed to accept this scenario as okay, as free market capitalism. Mitt Romney is good at dismantling and moving US factories overseas. He is making a lot of profit doing so and he would like to see Bain Capital continue to make record profits because he gets a share of those profits. Mitt Romney is an international elitist and a part of the international corporate mafia insurgency that is attempting to destroy our Republic and bring us to our knees. Bain Capital and Mitt Romney have, with malice and forethought, inflicted misery upon many of our people and it is our turn to hurt back. Bain Capital, MSNBC, and FOX News have made one thing clear. They consider Ron Paul dangerous, hence they fear he will hurt them, hence we can hurt them back by electing Dr. Paul and breaking the stranglehold they have established through their infiltration into our highest seats of power. If nothing else remember this. Mitt Romney stands to personally profit from every future transfer of industry out of the United States whether he is elected president or not. For 3 of the 4 remaining candidates, that is virtually the only important issue in the Republican primary race. Obama must be defeated and the only issue to resolve in the primaries is who has the best chance of doing so. Only Ron Paul asks the questions that should follow logically: Why is it so important to defeat Obama and what will you do differently from him? In response, most of the Republicans offer only platitudes. "Obama believes in taking from one person and giving to another. He wants to turn the United States into a European social democracy with a massive welfare state, etc." I happen to agree on these points with one caveat - the United States already is a Europeanstyle social democracy. That boat sailed many decades ago. With a welfare state measured in trillions that dwarfs the entire economies of most nations of the world, the United States is a poster child for social democracy and is now listed 10th on the Index of Economic Freedom. However, assuming that Barack Obama is supportive of this and the Republican candidates are not, there must be fundamental philosophical differences between them and Obama that would translate into tangible policy differences. However, if one listens closely to what they actually say, none of the Republican candidates actually disagrees with Obama in principle on

any single issue or identifies a specific power of the presidency that they would exercise differently - except for Ron Paul. If Obama really is uniquely terrible as a president, there must be actual things he has done that make him worse than previous presidents. During the 2010 elections, the Tea Party movement focused on Obamacare. The Tea Party-fueled 912 Project was able to draw hundreds of thousands of people to Washington to protest this one program. Yet, with Medicare and Medicaid alone accounting for 1/3 of all healthcare spending in the United States and total government spending likely accounting for over half, why was Obamacare such a fundamental change? Measured in terms of dollars, Obamacare was rather insignificant as an increase in government involvement in healthcare. If government-provided healthcare is really bad in principle, then opponents of it should object to all of the programs, especially Medicare, which costs about 6 times as much as Obamacare. But they don't except for Ron Paul, who has a clearly defined and funded plan to let workers entering the workforce opt out of

Medicare. Of course, there is one aspect of Obamacare that is different in principle and that is the individual mandate. Tea Partiers have made many eloquent speeches about how antithetical to freedom this central plank of Obamacare is. Again, I agree, but do the Republican candidates for president? Romney certainly doesn't. Romney's Massachusetts plan that inspired Obamacare is also centered around an individual mandate. Romney openly defends the principle to this day. His problem with Obamacare? That it is administered by the federal government and forced upon all 50 states. While his support for federalism might be admirable, Romney does not recognize any individual right not to be forced to purchase government-approved health insurance. If the state government imposes that obligation, Romney has no objection. Gingrich doesn't even object to an individual mandate at the federal level. State legislatures were deemed as corrupt. During each Congressional session from 1893 through 1902, an amendment to the Constitution was passed by the House; yet met much adversity from an unwilling Senate, even with vacancies. Cosmopolitan, in 1906, published a series of articles titled The Treason of the Senate, authored by Graham Phillips. Phillips labeled the U.S. Senate as pawns for the industrialists and financiers of the time. Between 1866 and 1906, nine bribery cases were in front of the Senate. In 1907 Oregon was electing Senators directly via State referenda. This was a popular idea and by 1912 29 States had followed suit in a popular vote for Senators. In 1911, Senator Joseph Bristow presented a resolution, endorsed by Senator William Borah who was himself a product of direct election. The resolution was passed largely due to the fact that many Senators were freshman appointed by state-initiated reforms. These freshmen were more willing to support direct election, according to the United States Senate official website under the passage titled The Direct Election of Senators. By the summer of 1912 the House would pass the resolution and send it to the States for ratification. May 31, 1913, Secretary of State Williams Jennings Bryan proclaimed the 17th Amendment dully ratified. Ever since U.S. Senators have been elected by the populace, we have seen States rights wither away. We have seen many laws passed that remove from the State the security of the 10th Amendment. Whenever a U.S. Senator was sent to Washington before the 17th Amendment, they understood that if they were to vote on a bill that was not in their States best interest; Senators would then face the scrutiny of the State legislatures and possibly removed. The 10th Amendment, which states: The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people. This was to be the failsafe for the likes of Patrick Henry, one of the foremost anti-federalists of the time. Since the Constitution specifically covers the role and powers of each branch of government; Henry understood that future events would call into question State sovereignty, and it was the 10th Amendment that helped to quell Henrys worries. Nearly a quarter of a century later, the power of southern States to secede was called into question and the Civil War ensued. The question of what a State can and cannot do is always open to interpretation. Some feel that the 10th Amendment can be used to run-a-muck, as said by Republican Presidential Candidate Rick Santorum. Politicians like Santorum feel it is of a higher responsibility for the federal government to restrict States from living in a manner that suits the inhabitants of the State. Its ironic that those words would come from a former U.S. Senator, whose original role was to restrict federal over-grabs. It was this type of rhetoric that led to the Civil Rights Act of 1866 and eventually to the 14th Amendment two years later. laws on States that should be rightfully left to the States is minimum wage laws. In 1938 the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) was passed which extended minimum wage laws to employees of private transit companies. The bout involving Maryland v. Wirtz in 1968 extended the FLSA to public schools and hospitals. How is a State supposed to fulfill unfunded mandates? How is a State supposed to pay for a federal minimum wage if their budget cannot afford one? It was not until 1976 that a court decision ruled on the federal authority to enforce minimum wage laws. In National League of Cities v. Usery, 1976, the Supreme Court recognized, under the 10th Amendment, the role of States in the federal structure. The court acknowledged that the federal structure barred the federal government from instructing States on how they must pay their employees. The 1976 decision led to the San Antonio Metro Transit deciding to not pay overtime to its employees. Of course, under the FLSA, a federal suit was filed: Garcia v San Antonio Metro Transit seeking back pay after the companys decision to stop overtime pay. With federal judges sitting on the bench, that are approved by the Senate, it is crystal clear that a Supreme Court Justice approved properly by the original intent of the Senate, that perhaps a ruling in favor of Garcia would may have never happened. The ruling in Garcia v. San Antonio Metro Transit trampled a States right to pay employees as seen fit by the State. our very eyes! Appointments such as those to direct the EPA can, may, and have led to regulations which prohibit a State from prosperity. We must keep in mind the relationships of the Senate to State sovereignty; and ask questions such as: Would the repeal of the 17th Amendment actually restore States rights? Have States rights even been trampled since the passing of the 17th Amendment? Is there really a connection between the 17th Amendment and the Money Trust? Answers to these types of questions can only be found through your own research. Within my own research of the 17th Amendment I found it difficult to link a grand conspiracy with the international banking elite. The call for Senators to be elected directly or by State legislatures has been an issue since the Constitutional Convention. What I have learned is that since 1787 there have been those who believe that a federal government knows best and should abide by their laws. It has become more apparent that with the passing of the 17th Amendment, the federal government has removed the power of the State. Most Senators now believe that their job consists of doing the will of the People, but that job was left to the House of Representatives. The Senate was put in place, originally, to check the People so that the individual States would not lose their sovereignty under federalism. Well the 17th Amendment has failed profusely to secure State sovereignty, and it is not until we as a People restore the original intent of the Framers that we can once again flourish as a nation. As once said by a fortune cookie: The road to hell is paved with good intentions. The 17th Amendment may have held the greatest intentions to remove corruption from Washington; nevertheless, it has led to a road where States have lost their rights and representation. Whats Wrong Continued from Page 9 Medicare by as much in dollars as Obamacare costs in total. There is only one candidate that makes any argument or has any tangible plan to get the government out of the healthcare business completely - Ron Paul. The same can be said for government spending in general. Yes, all of the Republican candidates rail against excessive spending, deficits, and debt. They decry Obama's unholy deficits and say that they will cut spending and push for a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution. That's all fine, but what exactly are they going to cut? This is where those striking differences from Obama start to dissipate. None of the candidates will actually name programs that they will cut beyond infinitesimally small ones like the National Endowment for the Arts - except for Ron Paul. Paul has already published the first budget that he will submit to Congress and it cuts $1 trillion during his first year as president. This budget not only saves money but indicates the philosophical difference between Ron Paul and the rest of the candidates. By actually assigning funding of zero to the Departments of Education, Commerce, Energy, Housing and Urban Development, and the Interior, Paul makes two philosophical statements that the other candidates do not. The first is that the government should have no role whatsoever in the areas that these departments regulate. They represent areas of life that should be left to voluntary cooperation between free people, not coercive mandates from the government. The second is that Paul recognizes that these are functions that the government has no legitimate authority to tax individuals to fund. For the rest of the candidates, there is nothing that the government cannot tax people for, as long as it fits in with their plan. They may suggest cutting unsubstantial amounts here or there, but none of them cuts these functions to zero. They all believe that individuals can be taxed to fund government regulation and/or subsidization of all areas of human activity - except for Ron Paul. All of this is rooted in a fundamental difference between Ron Paul and any other candidate for president in 2012, Republican or Democrat. It concerns the role of government. Only Ron Paul actually uses the words "role of government" in speeches or debates. Why? Because only Ron Paul believes that the role of government in society is limited. You will hear the other Republicans use the terms "small government" or "smaller government," but rarely, if ever, will you hear them say "limited government." On this principle, there is no difference at all between Obama, Gingrich, Romney, or santour. santour has actually said this explicitly (about the 1:20 mark), while the others demonstrate it through their positions on the various issues. Only Ron Paul argues that there are limits on the power of the government. The rest merely argue about how that power should be exercised. This concept of limited government is so absent from modern American political discourse that it is necessary to define it. If Americans still truly believe that certain rights are inalienable, then there are certain things that the government is simply not allowed to do, not even with the support of a majority vote. In other words, those inalienable rights cannot be voted away, because they do not belong to the majority. They belong to each individual. That is limited government. Only Ron Paul defends it. Nothing illustrates this better than Ron Paul's position on what is supposed to be the fundamental principle around which American society is organized, liberty. Ron Paul defends liberty unconditionally while his Republican opponents openly attack it, just as Obama does. Many of them use the term "individual liberty," but once it comes to specifics they are in lockstep with Obama. Liberty has a definition and it is not the ability to do whatever you want. There is a natural limit to liberty that precedes the government. It is not created by the government. The natural limit of liberty is the equal rights of others. In other words, an individual has the right to do whatever he pleases as long as he does not invade the person, liberty, or justly acquired possessions of others. This means that the individual might do things that others don't approve of, like use drugs, watch pornography, or practice a religion that is antithetical to their own. Others are free to disapprove of these activities, but they are not justified in using violence against the people who engage in them - and all laws are backed by the threat of violence. In fact, since these activities do not invade the person, liberty, or property of another person, individuals have an inalienable right to engage in them. Governments at all levels should be powerless to prohibit them. That is, if the society really is organized around liberty. "No man has a natural right to commit aggression against the equal rights of others, and that is all from which the law ought to restrain him." That was how the author of the Declaration of Independence defined liberty. You either agree with him or you don't. There is no middle ground. At the federal level, the defense of liberty is defined by the first 10 amendments of the U.S. Constitution, popularly called the Bill of Rights. If there is anything of substance that makes America freer - in the real world - than the average banana republic, it is these limits on government power. Yet even on these most basic principles, only Ron Paul takes a stand for liberty. The other Republican candidates agree with Obama that these protections can be sacrificed in the name of security. Romney stated that he would have signed the NDAA bill which granted the government the power to detain U.S. citizens without due process. In explaining his position, Romney made the ludicrous, counterintuitive argument that Americans have a right to due process unless they commit acts of terrorism. Excuse me, Mitt, due process is the means by which we determine if the suspect committed the crime or not. That is the whole reason for due process - to determine guilt or innocence. Romney doesn't understand that or doesn't care. This should horrify any lucid American. Newt Gingrich made this same argument in a previous debate in defending the Patriot Act. In fact, he thinks that the powers granted to the federal government in that law should be expanded. Rick santour doesn't substantively disagree. Make no mistake, these are not fine points of law that are being argued here. They are the fundamental constitutional principles that define America as a free country. They are under all-out assault by both the Obama Administration and every Republican presidential candidate except for Ron Paul. That the other candidates get loud cheers in debates when arguing to abolish these constitutional protections of liberty should send a shiver up the spine of every American. Recall the words of the Star Wars character, "So this is how liberty dies, with thunderous applause." Without exaggerating, it has come to that. Americans do have a choice in this election, but it is not between Obama and one of the other Republicans. There is no substantive difference there. The true choice is between Ron Paul and unlimited government, which is government under Obama, Romney, Gingrich, or santour. That means a government that can tax you for anything it wishes to, can detain and search you without warrant or probable cause, and can send soldiers to arrest you and imprison you indefinitely without legal representation, a hearing, or a trial. Many voters are illiterate or mentally incompetent. The definition of illiteracy once was unable to read and write. The new world order definition is having had no education. The former is the actually correct one. Most people vote for essentially emotional reasons with no reasoning skills involved, if they even have any reasoning skills. Futhermore, more than 50% of Americans live off the taxpayer-funded federal governments largesse. They will vote for the candidate most likely to keep their welfare checks and food stamps coming along without fail. Too bad when America no longer has the money to fulfill those peoples welfare dreams, no money for food stamps and no money at all. In the original Constitution of the U. S., only landowners were allowed to vote. These were the people with skin in the game. After all, a nation is a geographical area with certain defined boundaries. Presumably the people who live within those boundaries choose to do so or else they would leave, and the only people with skin in the game own something of sovereign meaningfulness -- land. People who are sucking off the government are basically sucking off of the land and property owners. Why should those who will not take responsibility for their own lives such off those who do?. My own prediction is that Obama will be re-elected because of the Republican establishments desire to keep the status quo and the lack of intelligence and rational thinking on the part of the average voter, and that America will soon have seen its last days as a constitutional republic, its last days of any semblance of liberty and freedom or private property ownership I, as a volunteer in the United States armed forces, was willing to risk my life for you, for this country, and you want Obama, Romney, Gingrich or santour as President? Rest in Peace, America. I will mourn at your grave.

If Ron Paul were the Republican candidate, he could not only win his present Republican supporters, but could win a substantial portion of votes from independents and democrats. If he does not win the Republican nomination, he could win the presidency on a third party ticket for the same reasons. In other words, Ron Paul can win the Presidency. If you think you need to vote for Romney on the basis that the mainstream media support him or that they say he is the only candidate who can win, think again. The MSM believes that the avid supporters of Ron Paul are a bunch of nut-cases aged 18 29. They are so wrong. There are many of us nut-cases who are over 50 who favor Ron Paul. It is my thinking that any non-union member over 50 will be a supporter of Ron Paul because we remember liberty and freedom and have an understanding of the tyranny of both the present and future that continued big government will mean to us, a slide into slavery, a slide into the government knowing anything and everything about your every movement and your every conversation, but, most importantly, a slide into poverty, dictatorship and totalitarianism. Many who believe Ron Pauls foreign policy beliefs are nuts are simply sticking their heads in the sand and believing everything the MSM is laying out on their plates. According to some of the best political philosophers in the country, if he were to walk away from the GOP for a third party, he would take at least 12% of the Republican vote with him. He would also take another 15% from the Independents and at least 11% from the Democrats. This would give him 38% enough of the vote to win the Presidency in a three-man race. The only option to any of what is happening in America is a Ron Paul presidency. Although even Ron Paul may not be able to save us, he will, at the very least, leave a legacy of Constitutional government and the causes of freedom and liberty rather than totalitarianism, slavery or any other of the evil isms, and end to the warefare/welfare state so that America can achieve a true recovery from the dangerous economic and political conditions of today.
