Screening starts at 7:00 pm Q&A following the film Ray Stark Family Theatre George Lucas Building, SCA 108

Featuring: Jarreth Merz, Director and Producer, An African Election

The 2011 presidential elections in Ghana, West Africa, serve as a backdrop for this feature documentary that looks behind-the-scenes at the complex, political machinery of a third world democracy struggling to legitimize itself to its first world contemporaries. At stake in this race are the fates of two political parties that will do almost anything to win. Director Jarreth Merz follows the key players to provide an unprecedented insider's view of the political, economic and social forces at work in Gahana. Throughout the film, Merz depicts the pride and humanity of the larger-than-life politicians, party operatives and citizens who battle for the soul of their country.

Millennial Youth Professionals Initiative (MyPi) Multiple Positions Available

The Millennial Youth Professionals Initiative, or MyPi, is a non-profit that takes inner-city youth on engaging field trips to cool workplaces to show them what lies beyond the horizons of a high school education and encourage an entrepreneurial spirit. As of this fall, MyPi received its 501(c)3 status and established an office in downtown LA. I want to organically build the structure of this fledgling NGO and assign positions in the vein of: community engagement, program development, event planning, measuring results and evaluation, fundraising, grant-writing, and online media management. These will be unpaid positions, but if we do our job right, MyPi intends to promote volunteers to full-time staff as our organization grows. We have already embarked on several programs to local businesses such as TOMS shoes, Electronic Arts and SpaceX, and would love involvement directly coordinating these field trips as well. Interested students feel free to send in your cover letter and resume to Josh Burstein: josh@mypi.org.
