Effects of the 2010 Actual Market Income in Malasiqui Public Market I. Introduction One of the major reasons in the development of the town of Malasiqui comes from contribution of the public market. The vendors and the consumers have an effective interaction in the local economy of Malasiqui. The Malasiqui public market has two floors. Based on an interview from Ms. Connie B. Salinas, the market supervisor of the Malasiqui Public Market, the first floor has 583 stalls selling varieties of tangible products. Additionally, it has an open space designated for 95 vegetable vendors and a meat section which is divided into 64 subsections. The second floor is alloted for the food court and clothing area. The bases for the payment of monthly rental fee from the stalls owner matters on the space of their designated areas. But owners of the stalls should give first the payment for "good will" to have his/her right to conduct sales of goods in that specific area. If their rights are granted, payment of monthly rental will be collected eventually. The payment of the vegetable vendors comes in the form of cash tickets. The collection of payment was done regularly. At the end of the year, the total collection from the market comprises the actual market income. The actual market income always attempt to achieve the yearly budget of the market. This budget is the estimated market income for every year by the marketing administration. As stated by Mrs. Bell A. Oxiles, the assistant treasurer of the municipality of Malasiqui, large amount of the actual market income goes to the budget for the salary of the local employees and to the maintenance of the public market itself. The maintenance includes the

repair of the public market, thus, when people find the area ideal for their incoming business, many will be interested in putting up such business there. II. Review of Related Literature The actual market income in Malasiqui Public Market is

fluctuating. It can be applied in the concept of the Price Elasticity of Demand . According to Juan Alvin B. Tiamson in Economics: Concepts and Trends, a product is elastic when the quantity demanded responds to price changes; while a product is inelastic if the quantity demanded for it responds very little to price changes in product. In the year 2009, the market budget or the estimated market income was php 9,000,000 php but the collected actual market income has reached php 8, 340, 983.50 only. This has proved the inelasticity of quantity demanded over the year because the market obtained was lower than the estimated market income. On the other hand, in the year 2010, the estimated market income was php 9,500,000 but has collected an actual market income of php 9,524, 395. As a result, it has shown the elasticity of quantity demanded of the year because the market exceeds the estimated market income. III. Thesis Statement The collection of the actual market income in Malasiqui public market has a significant effect on its yearly sales. IV.
