In principle, the organization that is responsible for the business process that produces and/or records the change should be responsible for updating that information

Organizational Framework
GIS technology and the NSDI concept have come a long way
Other
Good information is critical to understanding the situation in the country, eective agency operations, coordination among agencies, and to making well-informed decisions at all levels Geographic Data Statistical Data Population Demographics Economics Facility Inventories Building Permits Water Quality Air Quality Trac Health Education Housing
At present, information is scattered in many agencies, in many dierent forms. Many agencies are collecting the same information, and there is little or no information sharing. An Information Infrastructure is needed to provide the technical and institutional framework for developing and sharing the most important information among all the sectors
Future Vision
Existing Situation
Societal Information Infrastructure A Societal Information Infrastructure provides a framework for coordinated information development and sharing
NII as a principle recognizes key information as a fundamental infrastructure component for national physical, cultural and economic development, like highways, telecommunications networks and educational facilities.
NII in practice is an evolving concept that has taken many forms and denitions over the past two decades
We can learn many things from the international experience in NII, but ultimately we must craft an approach that is specically tailored to the local context and situation
