GateHouse AIS Solutions

Increasing Maritime Domain Awareness GateHouses AIS solutions provide maritime authorities and maritime administrations with perfect tools for identifying, monitoring and replaying maritime traffic. The AIS products, which utilize the advantages provided by shore-based collection of AIS data or other position data, can be tailored to any type of AIS solution. Furthermore, multinational cooperation and sharing of AIS information can easily be done. Such systems are already operating in the Baltic Sea under the HELCOM agreement and in the North Sea in the Safety@Sea project.

The AIS Solutions manage and store raw AIS data streams from receiving stations and subsequently run appropriate user and administration applications. Filtered AIS data can be distributed to or exchanged with other authorities or ports.

Detecting Events
Detection of unusual incidents with a GateHouse WatchDog Module is a high valued feature of the AIS Solutions. With the WatchDog Module plugged into the AIS server and/or Gatehouse AIS Display System each end-user can define personal triggers and/or a global configuration of triggers such as: Automatic event detection (ship entering /leaving a sensitive zone, ship speeding within a zone, collision with ships or buoys, grounding, STS detection etc.) Event action (send message to ship, store event in database for statistics, log event list) Event notification (alert one or more operators through GAD, send e-mail, send SMS)

The HELCOM AIS Network in operation with around 3000 targets. An example of an international cooperation and sharing of AIS data using GateHouse AIS solutions

Features
The GateHouse AIS Solutions offers a vast variety of features, e.g.: The solutions are module-based and therefore fully scalable Best-in-class display system dedicated for shorebased AIS Solutions and able to handle a range of features: Aids to Navigation (all types of AtoNs) Traffic monitoring and alerts (WatchDog) Safety related messaging Etc. Database storage for replay

A WatchDog is setup (the green hatched area) to send alerts to the operator when a ship enters the area.

Investigating Events
The event monitoring and replay functionality are powerful tools when investigating and documenting accidents and incidents (collisions, oil spill etc.). Stored data can be filtered and replayed to find exactly what is requested. The event can be used for legal documentation purposes.

Statistics
The Web Statistics Module is an efficient and intuitive tool for analyzing traffic of AIS equipped vessels. The generated statistics can be divided in different types: Passage line statistics Historical track statistics Traffic density analysis Event statistics Ship report (Vessel history) AIS quality statistics

Sophisticated statistics Advanced user configuration and user permission settings Reliable and redundant configuration, ensuring zero data loss in case of internal failures

Generally all AIS data can be filtered depending on the users preferences to see for example specific ship types, country of origin, etc.

Passage line histogram shows how vessels have passed a passage line.

Message transmission example. Transmitted messages are coloured according to their status, e.g. green = successful transmission, red = failure, yellow = queued

The system contains a central message queue ensuring that the AIS system will not be overloaded with text/binary messages. The message queue supports prioritization on both user and message level.

Traffic density plot. The colours get darker as the traffic increases.

System monitoring
An industry standard system management and monitoring suite running on a dedicated server in the Control Center provides system wide diagnostics and performance monitoring. Intuitive system status overviews provide operators with the big picture while system administrators have access to detailed analysis.

Safety related messaging

Messages transmitted through the AIS network may be either addressed or broadcasted. The GateHouse AIS solution makes it possible for the user to fully control message routing, i.e.: Broadcast on a selection of base stations Broadcast to a specified area Select base stations for addressed transmission Send addressed messages using the best candidate base station

It is also possible to set up a message service that can be used to schedule recurring transmissions, e.g. navigational warnings. The system supports individual Virtual MMSI numbers for each user in the system. This makes it possible for several authorities to share the same system for transmission because the receiving vessel will be able to identify the sending authority, and reply to that particular authority.
