INTRODUCTION:
How important is the environment to you? What measures does Corporate India take to preserve the environment? Which are the greenest companies in India? Industrialization is good for any economy, but it is not without vices deterioration of the environment is one of the major setbacks. Fumes and other wastes generated from factory plants pollute the environment. Besides, several companies don even follow proper waste disposal methods. With time, thankfully, the environment protection laws in India have become stringent and companies have also become more conscious of their duty towards preserving the environment. Several companies have installed ecofriendly plants and adopted practices that will benefit the environment.
Its easy to feel vulnerable and frustrated when one hears news stories and articles highlighting the hazards of global warming, environmental pollution and other ill-effects of environment abuse. But, increasingly companies are doing their bit to support the 'Go Green' campaign. Although most companies fall under categories that have more to do with reducing emissions or saving power, there are brands that have nothing to do with power and energy, who are working towards developing a greener environment. These companies give us products like television sets, computers, clothing, cosmetics, and so on . . . products that we use on a daily basis.
COCA COLA:
Some people think that all this talk about going green is just a fad. They laugh at people who buy organic vegetables, convert their home to solar power and drive hybrids. Despite all the research, studies and proof that shows going green is a good thing and something that needs to become the new way of life, these skeptics still dont buy it. Many skeptics even think going green is a waste of money or will be too costly to even be worth it. So, is there any way to make them see that going green is not a fad or some silly idea? The answer to that question is yes. Even the most skeptic individuals may stop and take notice when a large company, like Coca-Cola, decides to start going green. Such a respected company has earned their trust and if they are going green then maybe they will see there really is something important and real about the movement to go green. They can also learn that going green doesnt have to be difficult and is something they can do in their own homes.
company put into landfills and also helped cut pollution. The company is continuing these efforts at home in North America with the new hybrid fleets. Coca-cola is also implementing other green ideas in its North America facilities. There are recycling programs that are being developed for communities and businesses. They also have installed water saving technology and energy efficient lighting to make the buildings more environmentally friendly. In addition to the current green programs, Coca-cola has developed a green plan that includes five focus areas. These areas include energy conservation and climate change, water stewardship, sustainable packaging and recycling, diverse and inclusive culture and product portfolio well-being. Coca-cola is a company that can make a huge impact. Not only will the company s environmental programs help set an example for individuals and possibly change the minds of people who are skeptical about the go green movement, but the company is setting a great example for other businesses and corporations. If Coca-cola can make changes then it is easy for others to see how they, too, can go green and help make everyone s lives better.
IndusInd Bank inaugurates its first solar-powered ATM in Mumbai on 18th December,2009. Green Office Manual unveiled as part of the Bank s Hum aur Hariyali campaign Last December IndusInd Bank Ltd inaugurated Mumbai s first solarpowered ATM as part of its Green Office Project campaign Hum aur Hariyali . It also unveiled a Green Office Manual - A Guide to Sustainable Practices , prepared in association with the Centre for Environmental Research and Education (CERE). IndusInd Bank has a comprehensive plan to reduce its carbon footprint. Some of the initiatives being undertaken under this plan are solar-powered ATMs, thin computing, e-archiving, e-learning, e-waste management, paperless fax, energy conservation, CNG cars and also supporting finance programs with incentives to go green. Explaining the rationale behind the Hum aur Hariyali campaign, Mr. Romesh Sobti, MD & CEO of IndusInd Bank said, At IndusInd, we believe that corporate success is intrinsically linked with the environment. Subjects like sustainable development, social responsibility and climate change are fast becoming part of the corporate vocabulary and IndusInd is at the forefront of this change in the Indian banking sector. Green Banking is our mission today and we have diligently worked towards spreading the word in our office corridors and in the corridors of finance. IndusInd s new Solar ATM replaces the use of conventional energy for 8 hours per day with eco friendly and renewable solar energy. The energy saved will be 1980 kW hrs every year and will be accompanied by a simultaneous reduction in CO2 emissions by 1942 Kgs. The uniqueness of this solar ATM is the ability to store and transmit power on demand (incase of power failure) or need (time basis). In terms of costs, the savings will be substantial, approximately Rs. 20,000 per year in case of a commercial user with grid power supply. And in areas with erratic power supply the solar will replace diesel generators and translate into savings as high as Rs. 40,200 every year. Dr. Rashneh Pardiwala, Director and Founder of CERE, says, This is a unique model where innovation in science and technology is being encouraged by a large corporation to help environmental organisations address the challenges posed by Climate Change and spread awareness about sustainable development.

Panasonic has an Econavi range of air conditioners and LCD screens which is once again based on energy conservation. Econavi home appliances use sensor and control technologies to minimise energy consumption, based on a family's lifestyle. For instance, a door-opening sensor and lighting sensor allows the refrigerator to learn the time periods when the family typically doesn't use - when they're sleeping or away from home. The refrigerator goes into sleep mode accordingly. Globally, Panasonic is aiming to become top green innovation company in the electronics industry by 2018 and is laying a lot of emphasis on ecofriendly products.
