FeverTreeConsulting Media Release

Celebrating a New Era in Broadband

FeverTreeConsulting Celebrates the Launch of the SEACOM Fibre Optic Cable Johannesburg [Insert Date] For immediate release

FeverTreeConsulting, Africas top management consulting company, has congratulated key client SEACOM on the launch of the eagerly-awaited SEACOM Fibre Optic Cable, which will be ready for service on 23 July. The new cable will provide high-capacity bandwidth for businesses, communities and individuals in Southern Africa, East Africa, Europe and Asia, and was launched at a groundbreaking event in Midrand last Friday. Using Ciscos latest webcast and video technology, a live and fully interactive media broadcast was conducted on SEACOM, the continents first undersea fibre optic cable, giving delegates an immediate experience of the power of true broadband. The company, a uniquely African start-up and a subsidiary of the worlds largest private equity firm, [Insert Name], is set to break the current monopoly on bandwidth provision in South Africa, and to reduce costs by up to 90%. It will also bring vital broadband capacity to East Africa, which has been dependent on expensive - and limited - satellite capacity until now. SEACOMs vision is to connect Africa to the world, and FeverTreeConsulting was appointed to provide the essential project development support it required to make that vision a reality, says CEO and FeverTree Co-founder, Sven de Kock. It will be the first high-capacity broadband provider go to market in Africa, and will provide truly open access to and from the continent for the first time. The new cable has an enormous capacity of 1.2 terabytes (over 1,200 gigabytes), sufficient to enable high-definition TV, IPTV (television content delivered over the internet), and peer-to-peer networks, as well as to provide for surging Internet demand, especially ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. As importantly, pricing will be significantly lower than present pricing, which will allow greater access to the technology in Southern and East Africa.

SEACOM is of strategic as well as economic importance, says FeverTreeConsulting Chair, Cyril Ramaphosa. By providing access to low-cost bandwidth, the company will facilitate growth and development on all levels, from the industrial to the educational, and will be a powerful force for bridging the technology gap that currently exists between Africa and the markets of Europe and Asia. It is also a new generation African company - conceptualised, owned, developed and managed by Africans. SEACOM, which is domiciled in Mauritius, is 75% African owned and, in turn, owns 100% of the SEA International Cable. A small group of investors, with proven access to both debt and equity, were selected specifically as they were not national telecommunications operators, says FeverTree Director and Cofounder, Roelf Meyer. This was done to avoid value chain interference by separating the ownership of the asset from its use. FeverTreeConsulting has consulted on the project from the beginning, first developing the investor package, then securing customers and investment, and finally providing operational support during implementation. Strategic and operational consulting was provided over four distinct phases, says Meyer, and included everything from developing a detailed business case to conducting market analyses and feasibility studies; negotiating offtake agreements; identifying and engaging local landing partners; and implementing a stakeholder management plan. FeverTreeConsulting, which is based in Johannesburg, is a partnership between prominent African leaders and the companys international strategic partner, A.T. Kearney FeverTree is a truly indigenous high added-value consulting company, and aims to be the consultancy of choice for leaders throughout Sub-Saharan Africa, says Cyril Ramaphosa. As such, it is a privilege and an honour to be part of the SEACOM venture, and of bringing the benefits of highcapacity broadband to the people of Africa.
