When we put God first in everything and live by the word of the Lord instead of living from the bread of the world then we

Fast from fear; Feast on Faith Fast from despair; Feed on hope. Fast from depressing news; Feed on prayer. Fast from discontent; Feast on gratitude. Fast from anger and worry; Feed on patience. Fast from negative thinking; Feast on positive thinking. Fast from bitterness; Feed on love and forgiveness. Fast from words that wound; Feast on words that heal. Fast from gravity; Feast on joy and humor.
HISTORY OF SALVATION The first reading today continues the history of salvation narrative that we hear throughout Lent this year. Todays story was among the best-loved in the Jewish tradition (surely Joseph told the story to young Jesus as he formed him in the ways of their faith); the early fathers of the Church were very fond of it as a means of explaining the sacrifice of Christ on the cross. The overall tone of the first reading, psalm, and second reading seems a little incongruous with the dazzling Gospel, until we remember that the Transfiguration was placed as the Gospel for this Sunday precisely to remind us of the glory that awaits those who live faithfully and obediently to the will of God. In the life of Jesus, it is a preview of the glory of his resurrection; for us it is a glimpse of the destiny of those who continue, as we heard in last weeks Gospel, to repent and believe in the Good News.

ARCHDIECESE OF CHICAGO

March 3-4, 2012

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, After decades of oppressive communistic rule, the Church in Central and Eastern Europe is challenged to provide the residents of this region the essential pastoral and human needs which are taken for granted by many throughout the world. As an example, in the Republic of Azerbaijan Mother Teresa of Calcuttas Sisters of Charity operate a homeless shelter which furnishes food, medical care and transitional housing to those in need. Additionally, the sisters visit the poor and elderly who are unable to travel, thus bringing the light of Christ to those living in the darkness of poverty, illness and loneliness. The Collection for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe not only funds shelters and medical dispensaries but enables the formation of religious and lay ministers in order to foster the faith of future generations. On behalf of these ministers of the Gospel and those in need throughout Central and Eastern Europe, thank you for your generous support of this collection. May Our Lord continue to bless you and your loved ones as we strive to live with a deep sense of solidarity for the needs of others within our parishes, our Archdiocese, and throughout the Universal Church. You and your intentions are in my prayers; please keep me in yours. Sincerely yours in Christ,

Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I. Archbishop of Chicago

MASS IN HONOR OF ST. PATRICK

SATURDAY, MARCH 17, 2012 5:00 P.M.

St. Patrick was a Christian missionary involved in the evangelization of Ireland. Born in Britain, he was captured at age 16 by Irish raiders and carried into slavery in Ireland. He spent six years tending sheep before escaping from his master and being reunited with his family in Britain. Called in a dream to bring Christianity to the Irish, he returned to Ireland and journeyed far and wide spreading the Gospel throughout the country. It is said that he explained the notion of the Holy Trinity using the shamrock, now the national flower of Ireland. After mass, come Downstairs and enjoy the St. Joseph Table. A few Irish dancers will be helping us enjoy. this wonderful day!
