Gas For Guns

In an effort to reduce the number of unsecured firearms on Baton Rouge streets, Mayor-President Melvin L. Kip Holden, District Attorney Hillar Moore, III, Sheriff Sid Gautreaux and Baton Rouge Police Chief Dewayne joined forces again for a Gas for Guns exchange program in November. Sheriff Sid Gautreaux said the program can make great strides in getting dangerous weapons off the streets. He said he and the other partners are committed to providing the manpower necessary to provide secure locations where anonymous donors can drop off their weapons.

Zachary/Pride Substation Community Event

The East Baton Rouge Sheriffs Office new Zachary Substation hosted a community meet and greet event at Zachary Youth Park .The event included free food, drinks and family activities including face painting, a K-9 demonstration, children's identification station and a D.A.R.E. car contest.

2nd Annual Turkey Carving Contest

District Attorney Hillar Moore III came prepared Wednesday to claim the title of top turkey carver at the Second annual Turkey Carving Contest at the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. The sheriff won last year, and I wasnt going to let him trump me again, Moore said. I just have one request, Sheriff Sid Gautreaux told the judge before the start of the competition, pointing at Moore. Check under his side of the table for an extra turkey.
