RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH MOBILES

What are the health risks associated with mobiles phones?

Today, thanks to mobile phone use have a great facility when others want to contact us or them, is a convenient and practical location. B ut not everyone benefits. Besides being expensive, misuse can cause health problems and personal safety. The mobile phone has many advantages: It facilitates communication, it is very useful in emergencies and allows direct access to services, leisure general ly, but also Internet, GPRS, etc. But it also raises many negative aspects noted for misuse. The negative aspects of mobile phone use can be divided into health problems, problems with personal security and privacy problems and economic cost. Health problems Cancer: Current scientific evidence indicates that exposure to RF fields, such as those emitted by mobile phones and their base stations, is unlikely to induce or promote cancers. Recent epidemiological studies have found no convincing evidence of an increased cancer risk or any other disease with mobile phone use.

Electromagnetic interference: When mobile phones are used close to some medical devices there is the possibility of causing interference with their operation. There is also the potential of interference between mobile phones signals and aircraft electronics.

Heavy use of mobile phones can damage sperm: A study into men with fertility problems showed that those who used the a mobile for more than four hours a day had a lower sperm count.

Cellular Phones Linked to Cellular DNA Damage: According to a four-year research project focused on studying the effect of radiation on human and animal cells, researchers found that the radio waves emitted from a cellular phone may harm body cells and damage DNA in laboratory conditions. Although the study did not prove that mobile phones are a risk to one's health, it did indicate that cells exposed to electromagnetic fields, similar to those of mobile phones, showed a significant increase in single and double-strand DNA breaks. This damage could be permanent, not to mention that remaining damage could set the stage for future degeneration of cells.

Other health effects: Scientists have reported other health effects of using mobile phones including changes in brain activity, reaction times, and sleep patterns. These effects are minor and have no apparent health significance.

Economic problems

Problems with personal security and privacy problems Traffic accidents: For
both drivers and pedestrians as they talk on the phone distracts attention.

There are two types of expenditures: expenditure on terminals and consumer spending. Both costs increase progressively, and it is very difficult to get them down again. The terminals are becoming more expensive because they are becoming more extras (which are expendable). And consu mer spending is increasingly high because, although call rates are maintained or lowered, more and more services that dramaticall y increase spending).

Personal privacy is unprotected: Anyone can hear our phone conversation, or give us a picture or record our image or our voice.

WHO (World Health Organization) is taken very seriously the issue of the large numberof people using mobile phones, even a small increase in the incidence of adverse healtheffects could have important public health implications. Because exposure to the radiofrequency (RF) fields emitted by mobile phones is generally more than a 1000 times higher than from base stations, and the greater likelihood of any adverse effect being due to handsets, research has almost exclusively been conducted on possible effects of mobile phone exposure.

It is therefore advisable to take a series of precautionary measures to try to alleviate as far as possible negative effects of electromagnetic waves. These recommendations are: - Avoid placing the mobile soft body parts. - Keep the phone off as much time as possible. - Do not sleep with your head tur ned around. No moving about (incre ase the negative effect of electromagnetic waves on the brain). - Do not linger in areas where mobile phone masts.

In my personal opinion, I think over time will be ascending the sickness produced by mobile phones, as people we are increasingly dependent on them for anything. Due to the improvement of mobile applications, it is increasingly necessary f or daily life of any person, as it is more convenient, simple and fast. I also think that children are increas ingly mobile in younger ages, according to a study, the average age in Spain is between 10 and 12 years, and that creates more addiction in the child as it grows. It is a great risk to themselves, as they are exposed to many risks that are not their age and need constant supervision by an adult. I think a good solution to avoid the risks caused by mobile phone are talks that citizensraise awareness at an early age
