A Specially Designed Tube Argon and carbon dioxide have different specific gravities or weights. So, when a cylinder is filled conventionally, these gases will often stratify, causing the heavier carbon dioxide to settle at the bottom and creating an inconsistent mix when the blend is withdrawn. Praxairs Starblend system avoids stratification by using a specially designed eductor or dip tube that reaches to the bottom of the cylinder. Strategically placed openings along this tube help create turbulence in the cylinder during filling, which improves gas mixing and produces a more homogeneous blend. When the gas is removed, these tube openings then draw the mixture from throughout the cylinder to ensure you receive a consistent blend every time at any cylinder level until the cylinder is empty.
