Why study business administration at the university of antWerp?

High standards in education The University of Antwerp is characterised by its high standards in education, its internationally competitive research and its entrepreneurial approach. Its roots go back to 1852. The University of Antwerp has approximately 13 000 students. The University of Antwerp is an international university. Foreign students from all over the world make up 12% of the total student population. Many foreign researchers work as part of the Universitys research teams. The University participates in most European education programmes and has established partnerships with universities around the world. ECTS The University of Antwerp uses the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). ECTS makes teaching and learning more transparent and facilitates the recognition of studies. The system is used across Europe for credit transfer (student mobility) and credit accumulation (learning paths towards a degree). The University of Antwerp applies ECTS in all its degree programmes. All study programmes are measured in terms of ECTS credits. A full-time one-year study programme amounts to 60 credits, which comprises a student workload of about 1500 to 1800 hours. One credit stands for 25 to 30 hours of work including contact hours, preparatory work, study and assessment. AACSB and EPAS accreditation Playing a prominent part in international research, the Faculty of Applied Economics works together with universities and research institutions all over the world. The individual research carried out by its academics is fully integrated into the courses taught within the Faculty. The Faculty of Applied Economics was awarded AACSB Business accreditation. AACSB International accreditation is the hallmark for excellence in business education.

The Master of Business Administration has also gained EPAS accreditation. This international programme acccreditation system is operated by EFMD and awards business and/or management programmes which have an international perspective with high quality. Competence-driven teaching The Faculty of Applied Economics provides high-quality, student-centred teaching with an emphasis on projectbased activities and autonomous problem-solving. There is ample room for project work and interactive forms of teaching such as seminars, tutorials and small-group teaching. Excellent student support The city of Antwerp offers plenty of suitable student accommodation. The University has developed a database of accredited student accommodation. With the help of this database, students will have no difficulty finding a suitable room in a private student house. Antwerp is the largest city in Flanders and is situated in the northern part of Belgium. It is a historical city by the river Scheldt and a bustling trading, artistic and cultural centre with the typical atmosphere of an international port. Antwerp lies at the heart of the worlds diamond trade. It is also known as a city of painters such as Rubens, Van Dyck, Jordaens and Breughel. about the programme


Objectives
As the Master of Applied Economic Sciences: Business Administration is an academic Masters programme, the acquisition of scientific competencies is one of the core objectives. The student will receive a sound scientific training in chosen specialist areas in the field of business administration: Accountancy and auditing, Finance, International Trade, Marketing and Strategy and Organization. The Masters programme aims to improve students insights and ability to recognize and resolve business administration issues in a methodologically sound and effective manner. The programme also encourages ethical reflection on the position of the manager in society, evolutions in the corporate world and sustainability issues in todays globalizing economy.

The Masters programme carries a workload of 60 ECTScredits. The study programme is full-time and runs from September to July. Examinations take place in January and June. Students who do not pass are deferred to the second session of examinations in September.

Applicants should hold an academic Bachelors degree in Business Administration or equivalent. The equivalence of Bachelors degrees will be considered by the Board of Admission. Students completing their Bachelors degree in 2011 are encouraged to apply. However, their admission is provisional and subject to them obtaining a Bachelors degree before the start of the programme.

Students who succeed will receive a Masters degree in Applied Economic Sciences: Business Administration from the University of Antwerp.

Career opportunities
Graduates of this programme go on to work for organizations in both the private and public sector or become selfemployed. A graduate can start his career in one of the different functional areas in business (Finance, Accounting, Marketing, Strategy and Organization and International Trade). Job opportunities are also present in the consultancy, audit and assurance, banking and insurance sectors as well as in industrial and commercial corporations. Research offers another career opportunity.

The programme is taught in English. Candidates are therefore required to demonstrate their proficiency in English in one of the following ways: by submitting proof that they have studied at least one academic year in an English-language programme by providing a language certificate mentioning their TOEFL or IELTS scores. You can find the minimum required TOEFL or IELTS levels on the website of the Masters programme.

Registration fees
Students from countries of the European Economic Area: 567,80 euro*. Students from other countries: 2500 euro*. In addition, the student has to finance costs of living and accomodation, travel costs and study materials.
