Bible Basics for Youth God the Son, Jesus Christ

All Read Together: We believe that Jesus Christ died for our sins; He came to the earth as a baby and grew up living a sinless life with His earthly parents, Mary and Joseph. He arose from the dead and has returned to heaven. He prays in our behalf to the Father. We pray to God in Jesus name. (Hebrews 1:3, John 3:16, Romans 5:8; I Thess. 4:14) Teacher in Opening: Ask students to tell one lie about themselves and one truth. Have others guess what the truth is and what is the lie. Say: Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me (John 14:6). We pray to God in the name of Jesus. That is why we say, Our Father or Dear God. We end our prayer in the name of Jesus. God the Son is the one who intercedes on our behalf to the God the Father. Truth is reality. It is the fact. Truth is genuine and exact. The Arrival of the King Jesus (Luke 2:1-16) Have some volunteers read this passage of Scripture. Jesus came as a baby to this earth to be our Savior. He was a real baby just like you were when you were born. He was born to Mary and Joseph who became his earthy parents. He came to die for our sins. He grew up like any other boy on earth yet did not sin. He was fully man, yet fully God. He lived and went through the same things that we go through being tempted like we are, yet He did not sin. The Boy Jesus Visits the Temple (Luke 2:41-50) When he was 12 years old, he went to Jerusalem with his parents. While he was there, he went to the temple and sat with the other teachers asking questions. His parents who had left to go home could not find him and being worried went back to find him in the temple. They were puzzled, especially when he told them that he was doing his fathers business (meaning his Heavenly Father). The Baptism of Jesus (Matthew 3:13-17) Jesus went to be baptized by John the Baptist who was actually his cousin. John did not feel worthy to baptize Jesus, but he did. When Jesus was baptized a voice from heaven said, This is my Son whom I am well pleased That was God the Father speaking. The Spirit of God came down like a dove which was the Holy Spirit who is gentle. All three godheads were represented when Jesus was baptized. We baptize today in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Note: Further details about baptism will be discuss in another lesson)

The Authority of Jesus 1. 2. 3. 4. Over diseases (John 4:46-54) Over Nature (Matt. 4:18-22) To Forgive Sin (Matt. 9:1-8) Over the Sabbath (John 5:1-47) in healing; over the grain (Matt. 12:1-8); over demons (Matt. 8:28-34; over disease and death (Mark 5:21-43); His many miracles (Matt. 14:13-21; John 6:16-21)

The Crucifixion of Jesus (Matt. 27:32-44) Jesus willingly gave up his life for us. He did not have to die, but was obedient to the will of the Father. The Death of Jesus (Matt. 27:45-55). It is only by His death on the cross and shedding of blood that we can have forgiveness for sins. (Heb 9:22 - Have someone read this verse aloud). John 3:16 is another good Scripture to share. His Resurrection (Matt. 28:1-8) After three days, He arose from the grave. His Final Commission to Us (Mark 16:15) He said to them, Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. His Ascension (Mark 16:19-20) After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God. Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it. His Second Coming So Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him. (Hebrews 9:28). The second time Christ comes will be to judge the world, and all the people in the world.
